IV sedation involves inserting a small needle into the back of the patients hand and starting an IV. Throughout the procedure, the amount of sedative that is administered can be controlled by our team. Deep IV sedation is stronger, and it puts patients into a controlled state of unconsciousness where they cannot speak or respond to questions. In both cases, patients are constantly monitored throughout treatment to ensure that they are receiving the proper amount of sedative and that their vital signs look good.
Patients who receive oral sedation or IV sedation must always have a friend or family member wait in the lobby for the duration of their visit to drive them home afterward. Patients should return straight home after their visit and rest for the rest of the day. For the next 24 hours, the patient should avoid driving, consuming alcohol, or making any big decisions. Possible side effects of dental sedation include headache, dizziness, nausea, and they are usually mild. For questions or concerns, please dont hesitate to contact us.
