Dr. Young received his Baccalaureate of Sciences in Zoology from Brigham Young University. He went on to attend Oregon Health and Sciences University where he received his dental degree as a Doctor of Medical Dentistry. He graduated at the top of his class with both clinical and academic honors. He was selected for induction into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon dental honor society. This is a prestigious award given to those who excel not only academically but also display clinical excellence.
Dr. Young moved to Arizona in 2001 and has since been in private practice. He considers being a dentist a lifelong learning process and is a firm believer in continuing education. He has received special training in cosmetic dentistry. He is a member of the American Dental Association and the Central Arizona Dental Association. He has received special training in cosmetic and implant dentistry. He completed Bicon institutes surgical implant course. He believes in preventative dentistry and treats his patients with care and listens to their needs.
Valerie has been assisting patients with their dental care for over twenty years. She has a vast knowledge of dental insurance and can answer most insurance questions. She grew up in California and her friendly personality sets patients as ease. When she is not assisting patients, Valerie enjoys spending time with her daughter and riding her bike.
Alice is a transplant from Colorado. She has been helping patients achieve healthy smiles since 1997. She is very skilled at dental assisting and makes beautiful temporary crowns. She has a love of cooking and enjoys trying new recipes. In her free time, Alice reads novels and spending time with her extended family.
Chris grew up in Chicago and moved with her husband to Arizona in 2007. She is an accomplished Dental Hygienist with over 20 years of experience helping patients maintain healthy teeth and gums. She is very gentle and makes having your teeth cleaned a pleasant experience. Chris loves life and it shows in her friendly personality. She is a mother of two boys and enjoys gardening, cooking, and spending time outdoors

The professionalism and friendliness of the whole team is outstanding. I've been a patient with them for the complicated process of a upper prosthetic which entailed six implants; followed up with braces and veneers on my lower teeth. I now go quarterly to have cleanings. Every visit is like visiting friends. I couldn't be happier with the results.

I started seeing Dr. Young in 2004. Now my whole family sees him. He and his staff are consistent, compassionate, and truly care about your overall health. They think about the best long-term solutions and explain all the available options. Coming here feels like family. Alice, Kris, and Valerie are amazing too!

Dr. Young answered my questions and explained my options and his recommendations clearly. The two other two dentists I have been to in the past year: 1) encouraged me to get treatment that was unlikely to be lasting, and 2) grossly overcharged me for crowns in comparison to what Dr. Young charges. I think I have finally found a competent, trustworthy dentist, after trying four different practices since our long-time family dentist retired.

The staff here is very friendly and communicate well. They slightly overcharged one service and quickly remedied the error (by their finding) and let me know. I felt well taken care of here over several years!

I've been going to Healthy Smiles since I was a freshman in high school (more than 10+ years ago) and I don't see myself going anywhere EVER. The staff is amazing, each and every one of them, and very welcoming. Dr. Young is very professional and good at what he does. Definitely recommend if you are looking for a dentist.

I broke crown which Shawn Young had done. One of several of his which have broken. This crown broke simply by flossing my teeth. The crown broke by inserting the floss between it and next tooth. The crown is 7 years old as Valerie his receptionist told me and nothing lasts forever. Needless to say, I needed to fix this ASAP. Valerie could only book an appointment 3 days away. I asked for a bettter aapointment considering my situation. Valerie's apparently lack of empathy lead me to remind her this was not the first time this has happened. Valerie responded that since you are always unhappy, I should go elsewhere. I have.

This is a wonderful dental office. My family first started seeing Dr. Young after our dentist retired. He and his staff are great with our kids. The office staff is very friendly and my family enjoys our six month check-ups. if you are looking for a dentist I would highly recommend Dr. Young

Arizona Healthy Smiles dental practice in Tempe, Arizona is a class act. Dr. Shawn Young gives off the feel of your home town dentist right here in Tempe. At his practice you're not just a number in a dental mill that churns out patients, they care about you here. After going through a negative experience with another practice with an emergency root canal (can you get colder reception in the valley? Who needs an AC? Go to that mill) it was a pleasure to switch over my business to Shawn's practice. He takes the time to get to know you as does the rest of the staff. I like the art on the walls and it's not sardine packed with other patients in the same room with you. You're treated like you all live in the same community there. Arizona Healthy Smiles took good care of me and my wife and worked with me to figure a way to pay for the expense of the multiple visits (I have no dental coverage). They have a couple of good deals including a discount membership and a new patient's coupon on their website. Oh, ask Shawn about Oregon if you get the chance. He's from there ;)

Dr. Young has been my dentist for over five years. He and his office staff are wonderful! They are great with kids too. My 4 and 8 year old are patients too. I would highly recommend this office.
