Dr. David J. Dyer was raised in what was once a rural Southlake, Texas. He recalls riding his horse as a boy along the pastures that lined 1709, now Southlake Blvd. He graduated from Carroll High School, and as he expanded his horizons so did his hometown. Dr. Dyer attended Baylor University where he earned his bachelors degree in Economics with a pre-dental focus. It was at Baylor that he met his wife, Kate Dyer. They were married one week after graduation and held their reception at the Denton Country Club. It was from this time on that Argyle became the home base for the Dyers.

Dr. David Dyer joined the U.S. Navy as a commissioned officer after graduating from the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio (UTHSCSA) Dental School. He served as a general dentist for three years to the U.S. Marines stationed in 29 Palms, CA. He then was accepted into the orthodontic residency program at the University of Texas School of Dentistry at Houston. Upon graduation from orthodontic residency, Dr. Dyer was stationed as an orthodontist serving Sailors, Marines, and their families in Okinawa, Japan. Following that overseas tour, he was assigned as the head orthodontic faculty at the Naval Medical Hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia. Dr. Dyer finished his career with the U.S. Navy as a Lieutenant Commander after 13 years of active duty service. The Dyers were greatly blessed by their time in the military. They gained valuable life experiences and met an uncountable number of patriots full of honor, courage, and commitment.

Dr. David Dyer was thrilled for the opportunity to purchase this practice from his father, Dr. James Dyer. Part of the reason Dr. David Dyer chose the profession of orthodontics was his respect and admiration for his father, Dr. James Dyer. Even from a young age, Dr. Dyer noticed that his dad loved his career and was able to maintain a great balance between his work, family, church, and community. These two men share much in common, from their spiritual beliefs and general world view, to their orthodontic practice philosophy and passion to help their patients. A high standard of care, professionalism, and team work are all essential to the heartbeat of this practice.

Dr. Dyer is a board-certified orthodontist with the American Board of Orthodontics, Dr. Dyer has much experience in the treatment of complex surgical orthodontic cases for adults, as well as early interceptive orthodontic therapy, and traditional comprehensive orthodontic treatment of children and teenagers.

Dr. Dyer values the importance of living in community. As a resident of Argyle, Dr. David Dyers son, Joshua, attends school in Argyle, and his daughter Sophia is a future eagle. Dr. Dyer is committed to the best interests of this community. The Dyer family is excited to be involved in their local church, youth sports leagues, and many other community activities in the area. Argyle Orthodontics is a family business, committed to serving families. The team at Argyle Orthodontics looks forward to partnering with you toward bright Texas-sized smiles!

No. All orthodontists must be licensed to practice, but at this time only 1 in 3 orthodontists have continued on to become a board certified orthodontist. The American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) certification process signifies a unique achievementa significant step beyond the two to three years of advanced education required for a dentist to become a specialist in orthodontics. The process requires the orthodontist to demonstrate actual accomplishments in patient care with detailed case reports on the treatment provided for a broad range of patient problems. Board certification is a voluntary achievement that all orthodontists do not choose to pursue. In order to become board certified by the ABO, an individual orthodontist is thoroughly interviewed by a highly respected panel of examiners to demonstrate their orthodontic knowledge, clinical skills and judgment.

One. The American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) is the only certifying board in the specialty that is recognized by the American Dental Association. The ABO was founded in 1929 and is the oldest specialty board in dentistry. The boards purpose is to elevate the quality of orthodontic care for the public by promoting excellence through certification, education and professional collaboration.

Successful completion of the examination process demonstrates the orthodontists highest commitment to excellence in orthodontics to both the orthodontic profession and the general public. It represents a commitment by a licensed specialist that he/she has the necessary knowledge base and skills to treat patients to the highest of standards. It exemplifies a practitioners commitment to continue to keep abreast of the latest advances in patient care, and to continue to deliver these latest advances to patients. Many orthodontists see it as a demonstration of their dedication to the specialty and the highest level of personal achievement.

Since the establishment of the ABO in 1929, the certification process requirements have continued to adjust to the demands of the specialty. Today, the process involves a thorough Written Examination (240 questions) covering all areas of information which an orthodontist should be knowledgeable. Successful completion of this board exam allows the orthodontist to proceed to the Clinical Examination where they present detailed case reports from their practice/residency, demonstrating a history of excellence in patient care. These cases are evaluated by a panel of examiners and later discussed during an oral examination where the applicant is tested on a wide variety of academic and clinical topics. After successful completion of these examinations, the orthodontist has officially achieved Board Certification, for a time-limited period. The orthodontist must go through Certification Renewal every 10 years to maintain their certification status by demonstrating this continued level of patient care.
