Why Apollonia Dental? The name comes from St. Apollonia, who is the patron saint of dentists and was martyred for her faith. She stood firm in her principals and beliefs and refused to compromise them. That same commitment is at the core of all our values. Our dentist, Dr. James McGrath, and our team are devoted to providing the highest-possible quality of dental care in Middletown, Connecticut, making sure that our patients always come first. Dr. James McGrath grew up in North Haven, Connecticut, and attended the University of Connecticut for both his undergraduate and dental school education. After graduating, he completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) residency at the University of Connecticut. After completing his education, he worked in West Haven and Milford, Connecticut, treating patients at a cutting-edge dental practice. While working full-time, he completed hundreds of hours of online education in many aspects of general dentistry, including implantology, full-mouth rehabilitations, complex treatment planning, periodontics (gum procedures), restorative procedures, endodontics (root canals) and oral surgery. He also attended a year-long advanced education course in orthodontics and hands-on seminars at the New Jersey Health Professionals Developmental Institute to further his education in bone grafting, suturing and wisdom teeth extractions.
Dr. McGrath is committed to a lifetime of learning because he constantly strives to provide the highest quality of care to all of his patients. Dr. McGrath is also passionate about giving back to the community and has even traveled to Grenada on a dental service trip to provide free dental screenings, restorative procedures, and emergency care. He is a member of the American Dental Association and the Connecticut State Dental Association and is the treasurer of the Middlesex County Dental Society. Locally, he has volunteered his time to Special Smiles, CT Mission of Mercy, and the South Park Dental Clinic. In his free time, he enjoys golf, tennis, hiking, camping, skiing and traveling to new places.
Amanda Baxter is from Trumbull, Connecticut, and worked for four years as a dental assistant and veterinary technician. She has always been passionate about animals and currently has two dogs of her own, Cooper and Taz. During her time as a dental assistant, she became more interested in the dental field and decided to pursue it further. She enrolled in Fones School of Dental Hygiene and graduated in 2019. Amanda brings a large array of skills to Apollonia Dental, including years of experience in both the administrative and clinical aspects of dentistry and dental hygiene. In her free time, she enjoys spoiling her dogs, hiking, fishing, baking and working on arts and crafts.
Krista has been with us since February 2020 and loves being a part of a close, positive and happy team that is dedicated to providing quality care to our patients. She enjoys being able to connect with our patients, taking the time to educate them about their oral health and providing them with comprehensive care.
Krista graduated from the University of New Haven in West Haven, Connecticut. She and her husband, Eugene, moved to Middletown in 2019 with their two dogs, Titan and Athena, and their cat, Vesta. She loves riding her quad, doing projects around the house and trying new foods and restaurants.

The entire staff were so friendly and amazing. They knew my name as soon as I walked in the door. They make you feel so comfortable. My hygienist LIZ was super awesome. Communicates everything she is doing. The the dentist was really nice.

Fantastic first experience at Apollonia Dental! Amanda, Krista, and Dr. McGrath made me feel so comfortable, which is big for me, since I have had bad dental experiences in the past. I wish I could give more stars to this review... I will definitely be returning to Apollonia Dental in the future. :)

Excellent! I came back to work recommending Apollonia Dental to everyone! I am so afraid of needles that I even asked Dr. McGrath to put me to sleep. But the numbing gel that he used worked miracles! No pain at all through the whole process. Assistant Monica was very friendly, gentle and professional. Even before that when I had a cleaning - it was the best I experienced. I also loved that they were so thoughtful supplying me with sunglasses to protect my eyes and a pillow because my back was aching. First time xrays didn't hurt. And Gen is always so pleasant and helpful! So happy that I waited and after reading all the great reviews and selected Apollonia! You will not regret!

Great experience with this dentistry. Super supportive and gentle hygienists. I have Autism and ADHD and she was gentle and explained everything before proceeding. Overall, lovely experience and the orthodontist was very nice as well and he asked if I had any questions. I even recieved eye glasses for light sensitivity during exam xrays and cleaning. An the hygienist even encouraged me to use my sensory fidgets for support. The receptionists are lovely as well. Such a lovely atmosphere and wonderful people. Highly recommend!

5 stars really isn't high enough of a rating for the staff here, they made me feel so welcome and like they genuinely wanted to help. I haven't been to the dentist in a few years now and have a lot of issues, but went in for the first exam to get a wisdom tooth looked at. They stayed really on task and focused on what was bothering me instead of overwhelming me with everything wrong with my teeth and never once did they make me feel like a bad or gross person for having cavities and the like. They pulled the wisdom tooth for me with really no fuss at all, there was no pain and even 8 hours later I'm feeling only discomfort luckily. Just really wonderful people there who want to help. Actually looking forward to my next appointment for once in my life!

My recent visit to Apollonia Dental was just like all the rest. Quick, convenient, and worry free. They take care of you from the minute you walk in the door. I have been going to this practice for years, and I have never experienced a problem. No matter if it was a routine cleaning or major dental work. In the age of covid 19, they are well prepared.
