Root canal treatment is needed when your tooth's pulp (nerve) is inflamed or infected. Some reasons of pulpal inflammation/infection include deep dental decay ortrauma.It isoften quitestraightforward and theprocedure is done to save your tooth (teeth). During root canal treatment, we willcarefully removethe pulp inside the tooth, clean, disinfectand shapethe root canals in order toplacefilling materials to seal the canal spaces. It is important to go back to your general dentist in a timely manner to get a final restoration so as to protect the root canal treatment and to prevent reinfection from occurring.
In certain circumstances, a tooth that has had root canal therapy can get reinfected (i.e. In cases where new decay forms underneath a crown or if trauma creates cracks where bacteria can enter and reinfect). In these cases, Re-Root canal therapy (Retreatment) is indicated. During retreatment, wewill re-accessyour tooth and remove anyfilling materials that were placed in the root canals during the first procedure. We will then carefully examinethe tooth, looking for additional canals or new infection. We willthen removeanydecay &infection, cleanand shapethe canals, and placenew filling materials.
Sometimes, non-surgical root canal therapy is not enough to save your tooth and we may recommend endodontic microsurgery. Endodonticsurgery success has dramatically improved the last decade due to improved visibility with microscopy, improved sealing materials, improved armamentarium and improved imaging. Surgery can be doneto locate small fractures or hidden canals previously undetected or for canals that cannot be cleaned out due to excessive calcium deposits or for canals that cannot be fully cleaned out with non-surgical treatment. Sometimes, surgery is indicated if there is an additional infection outside the root damaging root surfaces or the surrounding bone of the tooth.
There are many surgical procedures that can be performed to save a tooth. The most common is called an apicoectomy, or root-end resection, which may be needed when inflammation or infection persists in the bony area around the end of your tooth after a root canal procedure.
After applying good local anesthesia, the gum tissue is opened slightly and infection or any inflamed tissue is removed. The root end is removed and sealing material is placed at the end of the root canal. Few stitches are placed to help heal the tissue and you must return for post-operative evaluation and suture removal. In the next few months, the bone will heal around the end of the root(s). Most patients return to their normal activities within the next few days and post-surgical discomfort is generally quite mild.
Dental cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) is a special type of x-ray equipment used when regular dental or facial x-rays are not sufficient. CBCT allows your endodontist to visualize your tooth and surrounding structures in a 3 dimensional manner. Your doctor may use this technology to produce three dimensional (3-D) images of your teeth, hardtissues, nerve pathways and bone in a single scan. Some of the benefits of CBCT imaging include, but not limited to: Visualization ofblockedcanals, evidence of fractures, location of root resorptions and better preparation for apical microsurgery.
This procedure requires little to no special preparation. Please tell your doctor if theres a possibility you are pregnant. You will be asked to take off any jewelry on your head and neck region. You will be adequately shielded with a special apron for this imaging.

All of my 3 children ages 7,5 and 3 have seen Dr. Salina and she is wonderful. Very good with children and knowledgeable when facing our dental issues. Justine at the front desk is kind, helpful and friendly. Great facility as well to accommodate multiple children!

Had to schedule an emergency checkup for my 3 year old and they were very accommodating. They were able to see him the next day whereas everyone else we called didn't have an opening for a few days. Great clean facility, amazing staff and doctors. Already scheduled all my kids for a check up and cleaning.

My kids love it here. No waiting and super friendly and patient! I recommend for any child. Especially the kids that are scared of the dentist. They definitely work with the child. I wouldn't take my kids anywhere else.

I called this morning to schedule an appt since I was in terrible pain. The staff was able to schedule me at 10:00 and by the time I got there all my insurance information was verified. The Dr. was very professional and completed the root canal. Didn't feel any pain while he was performing the root canal. I was done in no time. I truly recommend this place best Dentist in the AV.

Everyone at the clinic was very friendly and efficient. We didn't have a long wait and the dental assistant did my daughter's xrays and cleaning with ease. Dr. Tran was also very friendly and not intimidating to a child and was very clear in explaining the treatment plan and goals for my daughter's dental care. I was referred for an emergency root canal due to severe jaw pain. Dr. Chun listened carefully to my description of the pain, performed a number of tests on the various teeth in the area of the pain, and was able to identify and address the actual cause of the problem - which was a different tooth than the one I was referred for. Because the troublesome tooth had a crown covering the problem area, the problem was not easily diagnosed simply by reviewing the x-rays. He and his assistant, as well as the office support team, were extremely professional and polite. I highly recommend this team for endodontic treatment. I was made comfortable and treated with care throughout the experience. I'm so happy to now be pain-free!
