On November 16, 2020, Antioch-Brentwood Pediatric Dentistry lost a dear friend when Dr. Robert Rob C.K. Peng died in a motorcycle accident. Rob was on his way to the University of the Pacific (UOP) to teach in the undergraduate pediatric dentistry clinic that afternoon. He had served as part-time faculty at UOP for over 20 years.

Earlier in his career, Rob had been an integral part of Antioch-Brentwood Pediatric Dentistry. For more than 15 years, along with partners Robert Harmon, Richard Sobel, Jennifer Lo, and me, he worked to expand access to care for the children in East Contra Costa County. In 2008, six days after I had given birth to twins, Rob and I signed the paperwork to begin construction on our new Antioch office. While I navigated the nuances of being a first-time parent, Rob made the decisions and personally supervised the work being done for our professional future. The Antioch office will always be known as the office that Rob built. Sadly, six years later, Rob informed me that his physician was placing him on permanent medical leave. We cried as it was the ending of our partnership but rejoiced knowing that retirement from the physical demands of pediatric dentistry might allow his body to heal.

Rob was a very giving person and so very humble when thanked for his selfless efforts. He loved to laugh and truly wanted those around him to have fun and be happy. Friends from his dental student and resident days at UCLA and teaching at UOP can attest to his kind and gentle spirit. Rob touched many lives and no doubt many of his patients have special memories of his unwavering commitment to their oral health.

Rob is survived by his wife, Dr. Lilly Chen, and their two sons, Aaron and Kevin. His consummate energy, generosity, and sincerity will be remembered for years to come. Godspeed Rob, we will miss you and your smile on earth.

I wasn't happy that the dental hygienist came out to the waiting room with strangers there to tell me about my child's dental work. There were other people in the waiting room and I requested to go inside to talk about it. They tried to sell me on the nitrous oxide which is an additional expense that wasn't necessary. Even after talking to the office manager, I was unhappy. She tried to gaslight me in telling me there was nothing wrong with doing that and that's how they train their people--to talk about dental work in the waiting area for all to hear instead of privately. The gaslighting continued when she told me that it was miscommunication on both sides. She told me I could send me child to another dental practice. I really liked the pediatric dentist but the staff do not listen, try to blame the parents for the staff's lack of communication and inattention to medical privacy.

My 2 year old has been to this office twice and has loved her experiences with the staff. It's not easy getting a toddler to follow through with cleanings, but they are always ready to show her that being at the dentist can be a fun! She loves getting a chance to snuggle Smiley the Teddy while getting her work done. They know how to work with children of ages which is absolute wonderful to watch. I highly recommend this office for all your kiddos. We look forward to seeing the staff and their friendly smiles.

Very personable and comprehensive care. The doctor and assistants are friendly and communicate every detail about procedures and health status clearly. Our four boys have all been patients here starting in 1998 and we have always been very happy with the level of care and service.

I I love the staff!!!! But I am most appreciative and amazed by Dr. Lo. She identified something of great significance just by looking at my daughter's teeth. She knew I was against X-rays but gently asked if she could do one. She identified an abnormal finding and immediately sent consult and X-ray to a specialist and they are working her up extensively. All the same day! This was just a routine dental cleaning appt, that I was late for and they still accommodated me. I am so grateful!

My young twins have always been apprehensive with doctors and dentists. We just moved to the area and had our first appointment with Antioch Brentwood Pediatric. I was so incredibly pleased with this practice! The technician and dentist both asked me about my children and took great care to introduce them slowly and gently to everything. The technician showed my more inquisitive boy how everything worked so he was interested in the whole cleaning process. She also sang and talked to him as she worked. When it came to my other child they quickly saw that he was more fearful and adeptly changed their approaches to better suit him. When the technician saw that he was edging into fear she gently backed off and left him still feeling positive about the dental office. I was happy that both the technician and the dentist took time to speak with me about several concerns and to carefully cover options that would work best for us. I felt heard, well informed, and unrushed. I was so impressed with all the staff here and they were so kind to my children!

Empathy and expertise is what i was hoping for and the staff did . It was my 5 yr old daughters initial exam and xrays. It was a positive experience for her throughout and the staff is very knowledgeable and good at communicating confidence. Even to a suffering softie like myself. My 5 yr old had more courage than i did. Im thankful that her dental needs are being taken care of here.
