My appointment was literally a sales pitch for Dr. Urbanek device. The only friendly person there was the front desk employee & the lady who takes your payment. The majority of the appointment was him telling me I had TMD which I've known for years. That was the whole point of me being there. Dr. Urbanek told me the opposite of what every dentist & orthodontist have told me. When I tried to question what he was telling me, he got offended & rude. He told me facts with no evidence to back it up. This was an absolutely terrible experience. I was referred by my primary care & they were informed of this. They were appalled by what I told them. Hopefully they will not be referring patients to him anymore. If I could rate negative stars I would. I don't see how he's allowed to practice.

I purchased the Urbanek splint as a last ditch effort to correct TMD. The splint was $1800 cash (insurance not accepted), and within 3 weeks, the acrylic has started to chip away. The oral surgeon who sold me the splint has completely blown off my concerns, and the manufacturer's phone number that is listed in the package insert is out of service. I haven't noticed a decrease in symptoms since I started wearing it and am left with absolutely no confidence in the quality.

UPDATE: Dr. Urbanek asked me to write a review on my last visit prior to releasing me and he makes you feel obligated to do so, even though his solution's to TMJ have not really been in place long enough with me to see if it works. Well, it's been a year since then and not only has it not worked (for me) it has gotten worse. I have followed his instruction explicitly day in and day out and yet my TMJ is worse. I have read many articles and overwhelmingly they say TMJ should improve or go away with treatment. No true in my case. Ultimately I paid $1600 plus for a bite guard that I wear at night that I could have purchased from a dentist for $200. I'm not happy, now I must seek a different doctor for a 2nd opinion. Buyer beware. -------- Good experience with Dr. Urbanek. Came in for an issue with TMJ and within 2 months my symptoms decreased by 70%. After consultation he took imprints of my mouth and bite and had a special bite guard built. I have followed his instructions to the letter and what he said would happen has happened. They are professional, friendly, and knowledgeable.

I recently went in for a visit to see Dr. Urbanek for possible TMJ. I was given the option to use the Urbanek Splint. I'm confused why this device isn't covered at all by insurance.

Been a couple years since I seen Dr. But I can tell you since then I've had more problems with the way his device permanently set my jaw. My teeth don't touch anymore and I have a overbite. He is just making money off people who are in pain bc dealing with tmj is horrible and most the time anyone will pay whatever to get relief.

I went here for a consultation that was basically just a sales pitch for the doctors medical device (that is not covered by any insurance) During this "consultation" the very arrogant doctor did this thing where he pressed on my jaw and made me open and close my mouth. It was extremely painful and has been bothering me since I left his office. After he did this he continued to tell me how smart he is because he could see I was in pain (that he caused) He told me I had 3 options but really only 2 because I'm "too young" for surgery. Either pay $1,600 out of pocket for his glorified mouth guard or do nothing and be in pain for the rest of my life. There are other options. DO NOT fall for this scam!

I never write Google reviews, but felt compelled to do so. My dentist referred me to Dr. Urbanek for TMJ. The entire appointment felt like a sales pitch for a device that he invented and is NOT covered by insurance. They do not even bill insurance or try to get it covered. It costs $1,600. After seeing the doctor, you see an office worker who shows you all of the out-of-pocket-only payment options. Not to mention the fact that we're in the height of Omicron and NO ONE in the office, including the doctor looking inside my wide open mouth, wore a mask. Dental practices wore masks even before Covid! Please do not waste your time and seek a different referral.

After experiencing a two-month-long season of extreme jaw pain, stiffness, and swelling, I went to Dr. Urbanek and was immediately so comforted by him and his team. He walked me through why my jaw was hurting and how we could work on helping relieve that severe pain and swelling. Within a few days, I was fitted for a splint that I now wear every single day. I haven't experienced jaw pain in weeks. I am SO grateful for Dr. Urbanek and his team. Truly, do not wait any longer and make an appointment.

Read all of the other reviews detailing Dr. Urbanek's miracle mouthguard racket for people who had the misfortune of being conned by him. One review states that writing the glowing reviews are done on the follow-up visit - apparently this is how he shields himself. Thankfully I had a bad gut feeling during our consultation due to his arrogance and insistence on not wearing a county-mandated mask for no reason at all, and before I was forced to sign consent forms saying that I had been fully informed of all "other options" (which was absolutely false) I asked the assistant if my getting braces soon would affect the device. She was flustered and responded that it would, but "if I could just go ahead and sign the consent forms then I could talk to someone about it while I was getting impressions done". It would've been that easy to get $1600 from me, which I only now understand isn't even covered by insurance? Absolutely insane. I left the forms on the counter and left the building. Dr. Urbanek confessed that he barely performs surgery anymore because he focuses on his "device" - meanwhile, I'm stuck with the same issues and heavy concern that Dr. Urbanek's arrogance will result in me getting coronavirus - always trust your gut! CS rep: don't bother responding to this comment.

Please do not go to this doctor. My jaw hasn't been the same since. I went for a consultation on referral from my prior dentist (I switched after going to Urbanek). I was having mild jaw issues but on the day of my consultation my jaw was actually feeling normal. Didn't really like Urbanek's attitude, but my biggest problem was when he told me to open my mouth as wide as I could (which I can no longer do) while he pressed down on my jaw joints. While in this position he told me to close my jaw as fast as I could. I didn't think anything of it at the time because I generally trust doctors, but in hindsight this probably messed up my jaw because it hasn't been the same. Now I have pain and headaches daily and my jaw constantly clicks when I talk. Since then I've seen other doctors including one who told me they wouldn't send their family to Urbanek. Wish I had read some of these other reviews before I went. It's taken me awhile to write a full review because I didn't want to bash anyone, but if I can spare someone from the pain and frustration I've gone through then it's worth it. Started seeing another doctor who's much nicer and who's been very helpful but I'm still in the process of fixing my jaw issues. I have so much regret over going to see Urbanek but what's done is done.

After 40 years of ear pain, which was getting worse, I'm finally nearly pain free! It's at least 80% better in just 3 weeks! What felt like a stabbing knife that kept me from sleeping on my right (and preferred) side, and almost daily headaches are a thing of the past. I'm so thankful to Dr. Urbanek and his staff!

do not go to this doctor. I used the splint (after he basically wouldn't listen to any of my issues up front.. I felt like I had to buy it by the way he made me feel) for 6 months + , and NO results. if anything, i'm worse. he recommends this split to every single one of his patients no matter what their problem may be, and if you even try to go off of his script that he gives everybody, then he has the worst temper and bad side manner possible towards you. I am now almost a year in from wearing this split, and all I have is a messed up under bite from the splint, and no relief from the pressure in my ears / jaw issues. what a joke. if you value your $ and your health, this doctor is not for you AT ALL. I highly recommend, and judging from most of these reviews others do too, that you run fast from Dr. Urbanek. He is rude, doesn't listen to you or your actual problems, and acts like he has 100000 chips on his shoulder. 0/10. do. not. go.

If you decide to go to Dr. Urbanek keep a few things in mind. His consolation will essentially be a quick elevator pitch for his "urbanek splint" which he claims is different and better than any other type of splint. However, his device is not covered by any insurance plans, which is a red flag. TMJ is treated all over the place without the urbanek splint so don't buy into it too much. He is definitely a smug narcissist which makes it hard to have a conversation with him. Many reviews on here claim that they followed his treatment plan with no results, so in the consultation I asked what his success rate is to see what he would say and he told me "100% of people relief, the only ones that don't lost the device or don't wear it". You will then be forwarded to the "how would you like to pay for this?" meeting with the options being paying outright, in house financing with additional fees, financing through synchrony after a credit check. Keep in mind you do not have to make a decision right there, you can think on it or get a second opinion. I decided to go to Dr. Poss instead and have only great things to say about them, and guess what? My insurance covered my treatment with him.

The sales pitch that Dr. Urbanek presented felt like a well scripted play. There were elements that were not accurate. An urgency was presented with the expectation of immediate enrollment to start a costly process. I will look for another opinion.

Dr. Urbanek and his office were just what I needed. I have an extremely rewarding but stressful job, and I finally decided to do something about my TMJ pain after being advised to visit a specialist. At first I was skeptical, but I decided that I didn't have anything to lose...except my jaw pain, headaches, awful teeth grinding at night, and what I later learned was a direct result of my TMJ pain, numbness and tingling in my left arm and fingers! :( Dr. Urbanek diagnosed me and challenged me to wear his TMJ Splint for 2 months for 24/7 except for meals. After some practice, I was able to talk with it pretty well so that many people didn't notice that I had the splint in my mouth. I wore the splint as directed and my symptoms quickly went away, some symptoms after the first 48 hours! I am so THANKFUL for this splint;otherwise, I'm not sure where I'd be with my pain. It was really starting to affect my life in a debilitating way. If you're struggling with TMJ pain, go see Dr. Urbanek. You have nothing to lose except your PAIN! Also, shout out to Julie in Financing at Dr. Urbankek's office, who is AMAZING.
