Dr. Tony Dioguardi graduated magna cum laude from SUNY at Buffalo in 1979. He received his Doctorate of Dental Medicine from UCONN Health Center School of Medicine and Dentistry in 1983, receiving honors in the field of Oral Pathology. He completed his general practice dental residency at the West Haven V.A. Hospital, receiving emergency care training through the Hospital of Saint Raphael Department of Oral Surgery. He served in the capacity of Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery at the Yale-New Haven Hospital Department of Dentistry, and has lectured on management of dental emergencies.
Dr. Dioguardi has received extensive postdoctoral training in cosmetic, restorative, implant and reconstructive dentistry. He believes that optimal results are achieved through the team approach, and regularly works closely with dental specialists.
In 2016, Dr. Dioguardi established the Yale-New Haven Hospital Department of Dentistrys lecture series in Dental Sleep Medicine, one of the first of it's kind in the country. He has attended in the Department of Restorative Dentistry as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery and has lectured on management of dental emergencies.
Dr. Dioguardi is a Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine (ABDSM)1. The ABDSM is the board for the leading national organization of dentists who treat snoring and obstructive sleep apnea with oral appliance therapy, an effective alternative treatment to commonly used CPAP machines. Earning Diplomate status from the ABDSM is a unique honor that recognizes special competency in dental sleep medicine. Dental Sleep Medicineis not recognized as a specialty area by the American Dental Association.
As an active participant with Yale Universitys Sleep Medicine post-doctorate fellowship program2 since 2011 he provides clinical and academic instruction in the dental treatment of sleep disordered breathing. He regularly gives lectures to the Yale University Department of Sleep Medicine and the Connecticut State Sleep Conference on the subject of dental sleep medicine.
In March, 2016, Dr. Dioguardi was named to the editorial advisory board ofSleep Review, a leading publication for sleep specialists.His association memberships include American Dental Association, Connecticut Dental Association, the New Haven Dental Association, the National Sleep Foundation and the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine. He has been named one of the top 100 dentists in CT Magazine and was listed in the topDentist issue of New Haven Living Magazine. His cosmetic dentistry has been featured in Cosmedent Magazine.
Our practice was the first in Connecticut to receive facility accreditation from the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine (AADSM). Accredited facilities represent a small and an elite group of centers around the nation recognized for proficiency, professionalism and procedural excellence regarding the treatment of patients with sleep apnea and sleep-disordered breathing.
In order to become accredited, facilities must meet stringent quality measures outlined in the AADSMs Standards for Accreditation of Dental Sleep Medicine Facilities. These standards detail expectations for the proficiency of a facilitys dental director and staff; practice of policies and procedures to oversee the acceptance, documentation and billing of patients; and professionalism of consumer care, follow-up ,service and safety.

My name is Susan Chambers ,I had an appt with Anthony DioGuardi at 9:15 Sep 1st ,and I am 69 years old and totally blind ,and this dentist was very rude to me, it actually took longer to fill out paper work then seeing him,he treated me and spoke to me very very rude right from the start,my sister and caregiver had her mask on and was explaining to him my problem with obstructive sleep apnea when he ordered my sister to put her mask over her nose,bit's the way he said it ,in my opinion Dr Dioguardi has the personality of A wet sponge and needs to be kinder to his patients,..I will never ever visit with him again Because 1st impressions matter to me the most and he needs a class on how to act towards patients especially someone who is totally blind and in alot of trouble with my apnea. He had absolutely no compassion. I would not recommend him to my dog Thank you Susan Chambers

I have never had such an amazing experience at a dentist in my life! I was referred to Tony and it was the best referral so far. Tony will make you feel comfortable and is a seasoned professional. Tony's personality really puts him in another category and makes the experience memorable. Tony is also a very talented musician and we share similar taste in music so it really make the experience that much more enjoyable. Every member of the staff is extremely talented and kind. It crushes my heart I have to change dentists due to new insurance. This is only temporary I will defiantly be back as soon as my situation gets better!

After doing an at-home sleep study I discovered I had mild sleep apnea (about 12 episodes per hour). I could have gone the CPAP route, but I have a friend who has had an oral appliance for 11 years and is very happy with it. The sleep center referred me to Dr. D. for a consultation and in Dec. 2021 I had my new oral appliance! Dr. D was great with follow-up tele-med visits, and l recently had a second sleep study (using the appliance) which revealed just two episodes per hour! I couldn't be happier, the oral appliance was very easy to get used to. I don't feel that non-compliance will ever be an issue with me. I have a family history of arrhythmia, so I'm hopeful that controlling my sleep apnea will be heart protective.

Pleasant wise skilled dentist... Had a great consultation with him and would recommend for sleep apnea devices....... I've heard other great professional things about him beyond my encounter... Business billing person Denise, not so pleasant!!! The way she sarcastically hung up and said "byyyyyeee" to me after I asked a legitimate question about insurance, which "she " told me to call back in the first place, was a total turn off....Just make sure the phone is hung up all the way before you comment on people..... Awesome Doctor though...

Dr. Dioguardi's apnia device actually has worked very well for me. Before use i would wake up tired constantly and sleep test showed my blood o2 really low at times during sleep. After using the device for 1.5 yrs and getting fit adjusted comfortably i am waking up refreshed and my pulse o2 at nite is much improved.

Great dentist, also a great guitarist! I got to choose the music I listened to while I was in the chair. Dr. Dioguardi is very knowledgeable, especially in the sleep apnea field. Highly recommend!

100%+ recommend Dr. Dioguardi. Unbelievable experience for my sleep apnea, which was first diagnosed at a sleep clinic. They sent me to Dr. Dioguardi to get fitted for a dental device to wear while sleeping to keep my airway open. He chose the Narval cc model and it works like a charm. A true life changer. Dr. Dioguardi is super knowledgeable with such an upbeat personality. Not sure if I've ever wrote a review but Dr. Dioguardi is worth it. Really.

I have finally found a great dentist. Everything about my experience here, from the excellent staff, to the expertise of Dr. D, has been a relief. There are a lot of shoe makers out there, he is not one of them. Their receptionist even called to schedule an appointment with another doctor, when it turned out an issue was not related to my teeth. Their hygienist is amazing. Super skilled experienced hands and advice on how to best care for my teeth. Many thanks to everyone who works there, for making what can be a stressful experience, pretty care free. Would definitely recommend. (If that's not enough, check out the gorgeous smiles of all the folks who work there.)

Not long ago the drummer on a gig told me I should go to his dentist. "You've got to see Tony!!" So I visited Dr.Dioguardi for the first time in November of 2013 after a long absence from seeing any dentist. I was not hopeful ! Before the visit was over, I felt encouraged that my teeth could be helped back to health. This was due to Tony's positive and upbeat investigation of my dental situation. (It wasn't horrible but was questionable) (Actually, it was pretty bad.) He, and his staff, worked hard and brought my teeth back to life through extensive cleaning and repair. There were lost fillings and some chipping to deal with on top of it all. And a 40 year old crown that was starting to look like, well, bad. Tony replaced it with a new crown that looks like it's been there all along. It feels great to smile "big" again !! And the office staff are wonderful in their ability to help you with your insurance needs. I am SO pleased with the help I got from Dr. Dioguardi and his incredible staff. Professional, precise, caring in an atmosphere that says "Relax! You're safe here"
