Dr. Andrew W. Yap was born in Houston, TX, and moved to Cerritos, CA, in 1988. After graduating as Valedictorian from Whitney High School in Cerritos, CA, in 1998, he attended the University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA, where he majored in Biology. Dr. Yap went on to graduate in 2004 with honors from the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry in San Francisco, CA, with his Doctorate of Dental Surgery degree. In 2005, he completed his residency at University of Southern California (USC) and earned a Certificate in Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD).
Dr. Yap then gained private practice experience by associating in private practices in Rancho Cucamonga, Upland, Chino Hills, and Cerritos, CA. Dr. Yap has been practicing at this Buena Park office since 2007.
Professional development continues to be a high priority for Dr. Yap even after his residency. His post-doctoral training includes modern root canal therapy, placement and restoration of conventional and mini dental implants, Invisalign , Six Month Smiles Clear Braces and Aligners, and Inman Aligner orthodontic treatment, cosmetic dentistry, and dental sleep medicine.
Dr. Yap completed the Comprehensive Esthetic Residency of the Esthetic Professionals Dental Education Center in May of 2010. Dr. Yap received his Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry in July of 2011. Less than 7% of practicing dentists have this designation, as Dr. Yap has completed over 500 certified continuing education hours and passed a rigorous written exam. After completing an additional 600 certified continuing education hours in all disciplines of dentistry, Dr. Yap earned his Mastership in the Academy of General Dentistry in July of 2019. Only less than 2% of dentists have achieved this.
Dr. Yap is a part of many local dental study clubs, including the North Orange County Spear Study Club. Dr. Yap is dedicated to providing residents of Buena Park and the surrounding cities of La Palma, Fullerton, Cypress, Stanton, Anaheim, Garden Grove, Brea, La Mirada, and La Habra with a comprehensive and advanced approach to your oral health.
Dr. Yap is honored to continue the practices former 45-year owner Dr. Vander Heides commitment to delivering high quality dentistry in a compassionate and caring manner to the residents of Buena Park, CA. He strives for integrity, excellence, honesty, diligence, humility, and kindness in his professional and personal life.
In his free time, Dr. Yap enjoys watching movies and basketball, taking digital photographs around Buena Park, serving in the local church, and traveling to foreign countries to perform free dental services to the underserved. His most recent trip was a one-week trip to the Guatemala with a group of dentists and dental students in March of 2019. Dr. Yap also volunteers locally at free dental clinics to provide care for those that have limited access to care. He volunteered at the CDA Cares Pomona Event in November 2014 and Anaheim in April 2018.

I went to get a filling done, and it was one of the best experiences I've had with a dental filling. Dr. Chen and Seri were very nice and took time to explain what they were doing. They were very kind and made sure that I wasn't in pain during the procedure. The injection for the numbing was also done with numbing gel so there was no pain!

I have been to Dr. Yap office for 2 years and every visit has been excellent. Dr. Yap and Dr. Chen very attentive and informative about the procedures before they perform them. Michelle and Jen are absolutely wonderful and just as attentive and informative, always make sure my questions are answered. Seri always make sure I'm comfortable and relax during the procedure. Terry and Brenda are always helpful to coordinate all my appointment. I have always been hesitant to go dentist in the past but everybody at Dr. Yap office always make sure I'm taking care of. Thank you!

My family and I have been going to Dr. Yap's practice for years. Every member of the team is amazing. My hygienist is Michelle and she keeps my teeth healthy with the gentlest touch. I recommend them to everyone looking for a new dentist!

I have been coming here as long as can remember and everyone in the staff is very kind. They always recognize me when I walk in and are incredibly welcoming. Michelle is my hygienist and she does a wonderful job letting me know what is going on and keeping me comfortable. 10/10

First time coming to Yap Family Dental and I absolutely loved it! My hygienist Jen was super kind and friendly. At Yap Family Dental you feel like family more than a patient. I'd definitely recommend it.

Dr. Yap and his office staff are great, I've been going to them for years and I've been very happy with their services. I've referred others to Dr. Yap and will continue to do so in the future. 6/2/2022 - Jen is great, friendly, professional, cheerful, and most importantly, painless! Always treated with respect, no waiting, the staff always say hi, whether or not I am their patient. Office is clean and up to date as far as dentistry goes. Jen is my Hygienist , she is gentle and thorough. Tyrell always make sure the office is running smoothly. I have been a patient for roughly 15 years with Dr Yap and Carole. The rest of the staff are all courtesy and I feel like they are all apart of the Yap Family.

I Love this office and the people who work here. They have worked to create an incredibly professional environment, but they still make you feel like family. This is an honest representation of how this office makes my wife and I feel. It is so nice to not dread going to the dentist, but to look forward to catching up. I ALWAYS have an amazing time when I come to the dentist. Something people don't normally say. The staff at the front desk is very friendly and accommodating and Jen my hygienist is THE BEST! She's always so friendly and gentle.

I have been a patient with Dr. Andrew Yap since 2010!!! Prior to finding Dr. Yap through an internet posting from him, I really didn't have a set family dentist. Since finding Dr. Yap and his GREAT team of office support (Teryl, Brenda), amazing hygienists (Seri, Jen, Linda), I dont think I would go anywhere else... they make me feel at home, allow me to ask questions, and the doc takes time to prioritize work based on needs and what I'm comfortable with. I have mentioned Dr. Yap and his team to all my family and friends who ask for recommendations!

Great dentist! He takes the time to get your fillings just right. Will show you detailed pictures and explain everything that's going on in your mouth. The staff is courteous and professional. Jen and Michelle are wonderful hygienists.

I just got my teeth cleaned with Michelle at the office of Dr. Yap (Yap Family Dental). The Integrity, efficiency and kindness this office has shown me over the years(over 40 yrs.) has always been and still is top notch. Everyone here and I mean everyone, is so knowledgeable, helpful, respectful and friendly. You could not pay me to change dentists!!!
