Our Fountain Valley practice is equipped with the latest dental technologies including a 3-D cone beam scanner. Unlike a traditional 2-D x-ray machine, the cone beam emits less radiation and incorporates a wider field of vision so it cansafely generate precise images for patients.

During your exam, one of our team members will ask you to stand in the scanner. The scanner then rotates 360 degrees around you, capturing hundreds of distinct views thatare compiled into interactive three-dimensional images in just seconds.

These images allow Dr. Mortensen to assess your oral health and ensure that you are ready to begin cosmetic treatment. If we detect any oral health concerns during your exam, we can treat these in our office.

During your first visit, Dr. Mortensen will examine your teeth to make sure they are healthy enough to support veneers. We will discuss your options and select the type of veneer that best suits your needs and goals.

If you opt for traditional porcelain veneers, we begin by preparing the teeth for treatment. Dr. Mortensen will remove about half a millimeter of tooth enamel so that the veneer will align perfectly with the rest of your teeth.

Veneers are not a one-size-fits-all treatment. When designing your treatment, we willtake into account your bone structure, coloring, and natural dental arches to craftnatural-looking restorationsthat complement your appearance.

Dr Andrew Mortensen has been the #1 Dentist in Orange County. That is just one reason I drive from San Clemente to Huntington Beach to be treated by him and his professional team. I recommend Dr Mortensen highly to everyone who is looking for a fabulous dentist

It is important to take good care of your oral health by brushing twice daily and flossing once per day. Use a non-abrasive toothpasteand atoothbrush with soft bristles to keep the surface of your veneer smooth and well-protected.

Porcelain veneers are prone to wear just like your natural teeth. To prevent damagingor dislodging the veneer from your tooth, do not open packages with your mouth, grind your teeth, or eat extremely hard and sticky foods.

While your porcelain veneers are stain-resistant, your natural teeth are not. Dark-colored foods, drinks, and tobacco products may cause stains and disrupt thecolor of your smile. To keep your tooth enamel a bright shade of white, refrain from consuming anything that might stain your teeth.

Make sure to visit the dentist's office every six months for a check-up and professional dental cleaning. During your visits to our Fountain Valley office, Dr. Mortensen will be able to check the health of your teeth and the condition of your veneer.

While a veneer can cover small cracks and chips, it cannot strengthen or restore a badly damaged tooth. Patients with severely cracked, decayed, or damaged teeth may be better candidates for dental crowns. A dental crown covers the entire tooth from the gum line to the cusp, reinforcing the tooth and concealing cosmetic concerns all at once. Just like dental veneers, crowns are custom-made to complement your smile and look incredibly natural.

Veneers are an exceptional choice for patients who are struggling with permanent tooth stains or intrinsic discoloration. However, teeth whitening may be a sufficient way to remove surface stains and brighten your smile. We offer both at-home and in-office options that whiten your teeth by several shades in fast, comfortable treatments. Teeth whitening is more affordable than veneers, but does not offer the same permanent outcomes and must be touched-up regularly.

Dr. Mortensen conducts careful planning and uses the most advanced dental materials to create custom implant restorations for patients. In most cases,implant-supported restorations areindistinguishable from your natural teeth.

In contrast to dentures that shift and slip, implant-supported restorationsstay put. With dental implants supporting your restoration, you can chew on the toughest foods, speak with confidence, and enjoy living life to the fullest again.

Betty sought Dr. Mortensen's help to correct a smile that was severely decayed. To meet her needs and restore the health, function, and appearance of her smile, Dr. Mortensen placed dental implants, all-ceramic crowns, and porcelain veneers. Following her treatment, Betty was able to bite into an apple for the first time in years!

To evaluate your candidacy and build your custom treatment plan, Dr. Mortensenwill begin by conducting a dental exam and imaging. Our Fountain Valley office is equipped with the latest technology, and we use 3-D digital x-rays and cone beam computed tomography (CT) images to understand your dentalanatomy, assess your jawbone health, and plan the best location for your implants.

Thanks to our personalized approach todentistry, each treatment plan is designed according to your unique needs. However, here are some general steps to expect during the dental implant treatment process at our Fountain Valley practice.

In some cases, preparatory procedures are necessary. This may include tooth extractions, bone grafts, or sinus lifts to prepare a solid foundation for your new titanium implant posts. If you require preparatory procedures, it could add up to nine months to your total implant treatment timeline.

On the day of your implant surgery, your dentist administers local anesthesia to numb the area. Sedation dentistry is also available to maintain your comfort during the procedure. Dr. Mortensen offers oral conscious sedation to induce relaxation and alleviate dental anxiety.

Before the dental implant can be placed, the jawbone must be accessed. To do this, your doctor creates a small incision in the gums. Next, he uses specialized instruments to prepare the site for your new implant.

Once the jawbone has been properly prepared, your dentist places the implant into the site. Using CT scans and x-rays, he determines the best location for your new titanium dental implant posts in order to avoid any nerves, sinuses, adjacent teeth, and other tissue.

After your dental implant surgery, there is generally a recovery period required before the final restoration can be added. The implant fuses to the bone tissue during a process known as osseointegration. This can take approximately three to six months or longer.

Once osseointegration is complete, the abutment can be added to the dental implant. This small connector post serves as an anchor for your final implant crown, bridge, or denture. It extends just beyond the gum line and is usually attached with screw retention or traditional dental cement.

After the abutment is in place, it is time to add your final implant restoration. To begin, your Fountain Valley dentistwill takeimpressions of your new dental implant and abutment. These impressions are then sent to a trusted lab and used to fabricate your tooth crown, bridge, or denture. Your new restoration should blend in naturally with your smile and function just like your natural teeth.
