I was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. After graduating from Long Island University with a business degree, I immediately went to work for Union Carbide Corporation, handling government contracts. I quickly became restless and needed a greater challenge, so I left the company in 1970, after almost 2 years. I returned to school part-time so I could accumulate the necessary requirements for dental school. In 1972, I began my journey on this new road...and never looked back.

I started practicing dentistry in Washington, D.C. in 1977, first downtown on 19th Street, N.W., and then on M Street, N.W., until 1990. One weekend, I went to a small community in Southern Maryland called Solomon's Island to buy a boat. I bought the boat, fell in love with this quaint waterfront town, sold my practice in D.C., moved to Solomon's and, again... never looked back. I now live with my wife and our dog in a lovely home on a peaceful knoll overlooking a beautiful creek in Mechanicsville. I love my home, practicing dentistry, and living life. I believe in living this life to the fullest and have seen how beautiful, healthy smiles can positively affect people's lives. I enjoyed practicing in Leonardtown, in St. Mary's County, from 1990 to 2010, and continue to practice in our La Plata, MD office.

I am a Maryland native who graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park in 1999. After graduating with degrees in management information systems and finance, I went to work as a technology consultant. Realizing that my career was not fulfilling for me, I decided to pursue something that would allow me to work more directly with people and have a direct impact on peoples lives. I resigned from my job and began to pursue a career in dentistry. I spent a year at Georgetown University, gaining the prerequisites for dental school, and continued on to the University of Maryland, School of Dentistry, where I received my Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. Following graduation, I continued my training with a general practice residency at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Long Beach, CA, where I provided comprehensive dental care to our nations veterans. After my residency, my wife and I returned to Maryland to be closer to our families and to raise our own families. We now have four children with whom we spend most of our timeeither playing, helping with homework, or enjoying the outdoors. I have been working with patients in Southern Maryland to provide healthy, happy smiles since 2011, and look forward to doing the same for you!

I came here with a previous negative experience from a dentist. I was almost afraid to see another dentist. I left my previous dentist in tears from pain from a cleaning!!!. I almost drowned. My shirt was soaking wet. My face drenched with water. I came here after waiting a year for my appointment. Afraid, scared. Will I drown? Will they use individual picks that they use on people who are getting braces? Will I experience the same pain??? I was so oooo afraid. Not at ALL!!! This was absolutely the best cleaning I have had!!!!. I am allergic to pain. Thought I would experience the same. NOT AT ALL!!! Not only is the hygienist patient, she is thoughtful, kind, and takes her time!!!. No drilling to clean teeth. Dr. Betaharon is very patient in explaining what we will do first, next... until completion. LaPlata Dentistry was worth the wait. Can't wait to go back. It is hard to locate an excellent dentist. This one is it. Overhead TV and message chairs don't make a great dentist. The TV and message chairs don't take care of people. DDS who love what they do...is what matters. Dr. Betaharon and his staff are here for us...the patients. I LOVE old fashion dentistry. Did not use a drill to clean my teeth. Can't wait for my next appointment!!! Looking forward to it. No tears in my eyes. People don't care what you know... people need to know that you care. Dr. Bethahron and staff from the front to the back..CARE!!!
