Dr. Robert E. Anderson, a native of Suffolk, Virginia, and graduate of Suffolk High School, is a Specialist in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics. An honor graduate of both Old Dominion University and the Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry, he was one of 12 dental students nationwide awarded a United States Naval Dental Scholarship.
Upon completion of an orthodontic residency at the Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry, Lieutenant Commander Anderson served in Rota, Spain as an orthodontist in the United States Naval Dental Corp and was one of only five orthodontists serving worldwide. After two years of practicing orthodontics in the United States Navy, Dr. Anderson returned home to open his private practice as the first full-time dental specialist in Suffolk. Known for his commitment to excellence and compassionate care for each individual, Dr. Anderson has been bringing smiles to his patients' faces for over 30 years.
Dr. Andersons commitment to his community is just as strong as his commitment to his profession. A firm believer in church and community, he is actively involved in the Suffolk Rotary Club (Past President, Past Assistant Governor District 7600), Suffolk Youth Athletics Association (coach and sponsor), and Suffolk YMCA (coach and member), Western Tidewater YoungLife and WyldLife (Past Committee Board Member), Past Chairman of the Board of Deacons and Sunday school teacher, Lay Preacher, teacher of dental health in local area schools, served on the Board of Trustees for Nansemond Suffolk Academy (Chairman: Longterm Strategic Planning Committee, Chairman: Academy Life Committee), and Guest Lecturer VCU School of Dentistry, Richmond, Virginia.
As a devoted husband and father, you will often see him coaching or attending his childrens games and school activities with his wife, Becky. They have been blessed with three children and subsequentlyfour grandchildren. He enjoys sailing, golf, hunting, and horseback riding.
Dr. Anderson has dedicated his practice of orthodontics to providing individualized care and treatment within the highest academic standards for every patient. He understands that the decision you make for a beautiful smile is for a lifetime.

Dr. Anderson was my orthodontist way back in the 1980s. My teeth were a disaster (overbite, overjet, one even growing out of the wrong socket) and he did a marvelous job. To this day--35 years later--I still get compliments on my beautiful, straight teeth. None of them have moved out of alignment at all. Trust Dr. Anderson for quality work that will last a lifetime.

So I transferred from Washington State to Virginia and came to Dr Anderson's office to continue my ortho care. I thought the office back west was so amazing even after moving to VA I would fly back just to continue care. But when the pandemic hit I had no choice but to find something closer. Let me tell you, that I should have been transferred to Dr Anderson's office sooner. Just his work ethic alone warrants not mine alone but everyone's service. He cares. Not in word only but in deed as well. And his personnel that he has hired to work in his office - simply impeccable. I feel sorry for myself for not coming sooner. I was sorely missing out. Pun intended. As a Google Master Reviewer, I highly recommend this business.

The hygienists here are amazing and caring. When I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, they sent me a card. And they often check in with me when I go in for retainer-tightenings, all these years later. I appreciate their thoughtfulness and care.

My name is Kenneth Sessoms and I am a 48 year old male who had braces put on in October 2019. I had been considering braces for 10 years and knew I needed them. Finally, after meeting with Dr. Anderson several times over 2 years, I decided to take the plunge. I have a complicated case and required several extractions and tissue grafting. Dr. Anderson made me feel confident that I could get through those procedures and he helped me see what the end benefits might be. A year into the process, I can only say I wish I had done this sooner. Dr. Anderson and his staff have been amazing. Dr. Anderson is always willing to take the time to explain each adjustment and how it impacts my progress. He has a tremendous amount of energy, which is noteworthy since I am usually the first appointment at 7:30 in the morning. His staff is fantastic, from the people at the front desk all the way back to the clinicians who perform the adjustments. When I look in the mirror, I am truly amazed at the progress. I never thought my teeth could look so straight so quickly. If you are thinking about having braces put on, I highly recommend consulting with Dr. Anderson.

Although the employees are very friendly, this is an extremely slow practice. Every single day, month, or even year they gave me on when the braces would be off was doubled almost every time. I was told 2-4 years, it's been over 6. Yes, it is one of cheapest orthodontic practices out there. But you get what you pay for. Be prepared for retainers that don't last long and cost over a hundred dollars to fix and well over 250 to replace if you lose the smallest most expensive and fragile item you own. Be prepared to be disappointed time and time again when you think you're nearing the finish line but you get hit with a surprise surgery that costs thousands and is traumatic. I cannot stress what a slow and painful process this is here. Please do not put yourself or your children through this unless you know you have VERY little that needs to be done to your teeth in a short, short amount of time, and then still prepare yourself for disappointment.

My son is currently in braces and my husband and I have both had braces from Dr. Anderson. His exemplary care and friendly staff make the orthodontic experience so enjoyable! Dr. Anderson is extremely knowledgeable and caring. He even calls to check on you the evening after getting your braces on! His office is clean, updated and spacious and he uses the latest technology to make sure his patients and staff are safe! We made it to all of our scheduled appointments therefore our braces were removed right on schedule and we couldn't be happier with the results! :)

My son just finished his treatment and we are thrilled with his results. Our visits to Dr. Anderson's office were always pleasant and prompt. We were given thorough updates on his progress and treatment plan each visit. Updates to our general dentist on his care were also appreciated. Wonderful office and staff.
