Born and raised in Del Rio, Thomas Taylor left, after graduating from Del Rio High School, for college. Upon graduation from Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State) with a finance degree, Tommy took a job with Kraft Foods, peddling many of the fine foods for which Kraft was known. Kraft moved Tommy to Tulsa, OK to take over as an account manager for a growing chain. After two years in Oklahoma, he knew that he wanted to return to Texas and especially Del Rio. It was then that Dr. Taylor began his pursuit of a career in dentistry with the goal of joining his dad, Dr. L.G. Taylor. He moved to Austin and completed his pre-requirements to apply to dental school.
After numerous interviews and school tours, Tommy settled on Tufts School of Dental Medicine in Boston, MA. I chose Boston because it was one of the most unique cities in which I interviewed, says Dr. Taylor. After spending almost four years in Boston and loving just about every moment, Dr. Thomas Taylor was ready to come back home, and on January 4, 1999, he saw his first patient as a licensed dentist. Ill never forget that day because not only was it my first day, but as soon as the patient sat down, the power went out and stayed out for about 30 minutes. Ive never liked making people wait, says Dr. Taylor, and now I start out behind on my schedule.
Drs. Tommy and L.G. practiced for another two and a half years in the 750 square foot office that Dr. L.G. had begun 40 years earlier. On October 8, 2001, Amistad Dentistry moved to its current location. I had a lot of memories as a kid and helping out emptying trash and assisting Dad in the Main Street office and was a bit sad to see the end of that era, and so I figured Dad would be, too. At the end of our first day at our current office, Dad and I (as we often did) were visiting in our back office, and I asked him if he missed the old place, and his response was an emphatic, Not a bit! recalls Dr. Tommy.

Dr Taylor is one of the best dentists ever! My visit today went so smoothly from starting on time to a complete painless procedure...the staff is so delightful and helpful. If you want a great dental experience, call them and get started!!

As always the staff is courteous. I was in for my six-month cleaning that was provided by Alejandra and examined by Dr. Klines. Although Dr. Taylor was very busy with his many other patients he made time to come over to greet me and welcome me to his new dental office.

Beautiful new facility! Had to wait about 15 minutes past appointment time, which is highly unusual. Hygienist did apologize. Otherwise no issues. My visit 3/22 was seen by new dentist. Was impressed with her professionalism. Also by how quickly the office was able to see me. I'm a long time patient & appreciate Amistad.

My dental hygienist Emma was excellent! My appointment was right on time. I was able to fill out all of my forms online the night before, so I didn't have to spend a lot of time in the office completing them. Emma was very professional. She explained everything as she worked and didn't cause any pain. Amistad Dentistry has a great new building and has invested in all of the newest equipment so patients have the very best experience possible. I highly recommend Amistad Dentistry!

Very nice dentist, dental assistants, hygienist, and office staff. I never have to spend much time in the waiting room, they call me in fast. Dr. Taylor did a nice job on my teeth. I had some problems with my tooth after it was treated, but he saw me again right away to fix it and didn't charge me for it. He did a great job on my 4 front teeth. One was broken almost half way and he reconstructed it, now you can't tell it was ever broken.

There are several new faces now but the staff remains friendly. There may be some changes in practice, at least it seemed that way at my recent visit. They still tend to you promptly and professionally.
