Dr. Gerald Brown is a Winchester family dentist with more than 30 years of experience in the field of dentistry. Since founding Amherst Dental Practice in 1987, he has provided exceptional preventative and restorative dental care at affordable rates. Dr. Brown is proud to offer the latest technology to ensure that his patients receive the highest quality care in a comfortable atmosphere.
Dr. Brown was born in Houma, Louisiana into a military family that traveled all over the world until settling in Falls Church, Virginia. He graduated from Annandale High School and The College of William and Mary, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. He then received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery degree from Virginia Commonwealth University/Medical College of Virginia in 1986. After graduation, he practiced in Oakton, Virginia for one year and then moved to Winchester where he established his private practice.
Dr. Brown currently resides in Winchester with his wife and three daughters. Outside of his practice, Dr. Brown enjoys participating in marathons and Ironman triathlons as well as many other shorter distance events. He strives for a healthy lifestyle and enjoys cooking for his family, as well as traveling and spending time with family dogs Neisha, Bitsy, Lola and Maggie.
The entire Brown family places high importance on community involvement, volunteering countless hours to support local charities such as The Free Medical Clinic, The Laurel Center for Women and Children, The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), and The Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival. Dr. Brown has also volunteered with the Free Medical Clinic and Donated Dental Services of Virginia.

Cat has lived in the Winchester area for 22 years and has worked in the dental industry for 16 years. Cat rejoined our team in December 2021. She is a mom and grandmother and truly believes family is above all the most important in life. An interesting fun fact about Cat is that she is left-handed, the only one on our team. In her free time, she loves to travel, photograph, garden, craft, watch wildlife, play with her dog, and spend time with family.
Gabby was born in Colorado Springs, CO, and moved to Winchester 25 years ago. She has been a wonderful member of our team since December 2021. Before joining the dental industry, she was a Veterinary Technician which was helpful with her love of animals as she has 3 dogs and 25 chickens. Her job brings her joy when she sees a beautifully restored smile on a patient who was previously too embarrassed to smile at all!
Karen was born and raised in Winchester. Karen has strengthened our team since September 2016 and has an accumulative 30 years of dental industry experience. She is a very outgoing person who loves to socialize with just about everyone she meets! There truly is never a dull moment in her life. She loves to spend time with her husband and grandson around their pool or at his sports games. Through the years, the most valuable thing she has learned is to never judge a book by its cover.
Laura has lived in the Winchester area her whole life. She and her bubbly personality joined our team in November 2020, bringing with her 12 years of dental experience. Laura describes her job as rewarding, interesting, and reliable. Her favorite thing about her job is the rapport and relationships she builds with her patients. When not working, Laura enjoys archery with her daughter or playing with her 2 dogs. Many people would not know this about Laura, but she has been to 13 countries, ____ being her favorite.
Trilby was born and raised in Winchester. Although she has worked for Amherst Dental Practice for 10 years, she took over as office manager in April 2021. She is a dual degree graduate of Virginia Tech, with degrees in Marketing and Hospitality & Tourism Management. In her free time, she loves to cook, bake, craft, fish with her fianc, spend time with family and friends, and spoil her 2 dogs. One thing Trilby has found to be tried and true is that kindness is never overrated.

Been a patient here for more then a decade. Dr Brown is excellent & the whole office from front desk to hygienist are absolutely first rate.

Laura, who has replaced Kathy, has been an exceptional addition to Dr Brown's office. She has done everything in her power to make me comfortable with my dental procedures. We have gone to Dr Brown for a number of years and all his dental work has held up remarkably well. He also went out of his way recently to help my husband with a dental emergency seeing my husband 3 times in a 2 day period. We appreciate his care of his patients.

Best Dentist I've ever been too. He cares about your experience being as pain free as possible. Pluss, he is a family man that has his own working with him. The man cares about your dental plan and can make adjustments as needed. He's A+++++ in my life trying to keep my teeth.

Dr. Brown is a skilled practitioner; it's obviously "not his first day." His office is warm and inviting; furthermore, his staff are friendly and kind. I've had a procedure done which was painless, and Dr. Brown explained what needed to be done. His hygienists are friendly and thorough.

I was very concerned about going back to the dentist until I came here from the first phone call til I came in for my second visit where I got a root canal done everyone was very friendly, helpful, compassionate about helping and ensuring I understood everything. I have finally found a practice that looks out for my best interest and not just to get money. I can't wait to have my smile back. As they say no pain no gain, well here there's no pain only gain. So go get your smile back!! Thanks Dr. Brown and all the ladies

This has been my dentist since I was a child. The staff is always extremely inviting, and Dr. Brown is always professional and personable with his patients. They are also great with their scheduling, I have never waited more than 5 minutes passed my appointment time in 20 years.

I've been looking for a new dentist since my first dentist moved. So I looked around and bc Amherst accepted my insurance and the staff setting up the appointment were really nice. So I go in get tooth pulled and this is where I see if the dentist did good job. He numbed me up good. Even when I got home no pain. The day after no pain. It's nice having a dentist who knows tooth pain is no joke. He did an amazing job. Thank you so much. I believe I found my new dentist.

I can not express enough how amazing the people are at Amherst Dental. Let's start with calling to make the appointment. I had called around 3 in the afternoon and the nice lady asked if she could call be back the next morning when her other coworker could help her process a new client. I'd had other offices do that and it takes a day or so before they actually call you back. Nope! Like clockwork around 10 they gave me a call back! They were so pleasant and happy to get all my information to start the new client process! We got appointments for my 2 children and myself the same week! When you walk into the office they immediately greet you with a smile and turn all their attention to you! Their Covid process was excellent. They take your temp, check your oxygen levels, ask a few questions and you sign a paper. All done! My kids have not stopped talking about teeth hygiene since we got home! THEY BRUSHED THERE TEETH TWICE LAST NIGHT! The nurses were so good with them! Shout out to Laura who cares so much for her patients! I've never had a health care worker so concerned with someone she just meet and making sure the kids understood the importance of keeping your teeth healthy! You don't feel like your just another number there and that you and your family matter. At times like today that goes far in my book. They are doing an amazing job! Give them a try and you won't regret it!

Dr Brown and all the ladies of the office are the amazing! I have been with them for a few years and I could not see myself going anywhere else. They are out of network with my insurance but honestly the extra expense is more than worth it. You feel like you matter from the moment you walk in the door. I would say after about 2 visits everyone working their would greet me by my first name without having to look my chart up. We need more doctors and office staff like this practice.

Everyone at this practice is amazing!!! I moved to the area a few years ago from NC and needed to find a new dentist here and I'm so thankful I found Dr. Brown and his staff! I had quite a bit of restorative work that needed to be done and he and his staff have been nothing short of helpful, compassionate, and kind throughout each step of the process. Dr. Brown has such a gentle and friendly ease about him that truly makes each visit a pleasure. And all of the ladies at the front desk have been beyond lovely and tremendously wonderful with helping me to find an insurance and treatment plan that works with my budget and seeing them and chatting with them always puts a smile on my face!! I'm so thankful to have found Amherst Dental Practice!!!!

When it comes to dental work I have always been nervous about the process, but everyone at Dr. Browns office helped to ease my nerves. Renee explained my procedure and really eased my worries. After having two teeth pulled I am resting at home with no pain. Thank you Dr. Browns office!
