Dr. Kim J. Wass, a Board certified orthodontist, is a native of Ames, Iowa. He graduated from the University of Iowa with a Bachelor of Science degree and received his DDS degree from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry in 1982.
Dr. Wass continued his education an additional two years, earning his Orthodontic Specialty Certificate and completing his Master of Science Degree from the University of Iowa Orthodontic Residency Program in 1984. He joined his boyhood orthodontist and mentor, Dr. Jack Sturdivant, in his Ames practice and has been making beautiful smiles ever since! Dr. Wass opened his Nevada office in 2015.
In 1993, Dr. Wass earned the designation of Diplomate by the American Board of Orthodontics. Certification by the Board is based on clinical proficiency and standards for dental specialists. He has established a practice of excellence by providing his patients with state-of-the-art technology and quality care. Dr. Wass prides himself in being central Iowas leader in the use of 3D technology and is the first full-time orthodontist in the state to use the SureSmile system.
In addition to being board certified and a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics, Dr. Wass is also a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, the American Dental Association, and both state and local dental organizations. Dr. Wass is a past-president of both the Iowa Society of Orthodontists and the Ames Area Dental Study Club. He has served on the board of the Ames Education Foundation and as well on the Mary Greeley Medical Center Foundation Board and the Story County Red Cross Board.
Dr. Wass is an instrument rated private pilot and frequently flies to continuing education meetings! He enjoys running, photography and music. His wife, Joan, grew up in Oskaloosa. Together they enjoy playing golf, exercising and visiting their two adult children and their families.

Dr. Wass put my braces on when I was a kid, and I had a great experience and awesome results. Now it's my children's turn for braces and invisalign. We have been going to them for about a year now. So far so good! I would reccommend them to anyone because of the friendly, personalized experience they provide as well as the amazing results.

Dr. Wass and his staff were amazing! I stopped in to get my bottom retainer fixed because it was broken. Dr. Wass took his time to repair the retainer and ensure I was happy with the results. The staff at Ames Ortho was nothing but kind and friendly during my appointment. I highly recommend Ames Ortho and would go back in the future if ever needed.

Ames Orthodontics has been a great place to go. Dr. Wass and his staff are warm, caring individuals who truly care who their patient and the family are. Our eldest finished her treatment a couple years back and now our middle child is undergoing treatment. I cant say enough about the Sure Smile technology. Just because teeth are straight on the outside, doesn't mean the roots are straight. Scans are easier too. No goop in the mouth and they only take a few minutes. Wires are bent for your teeth and not by hand. We can't say enough about Dr. Wass and his staff. Dr. Wass' office makes working with the insurance company easy with accepting the payments directly, instead of making clients pay bigger payments, or financing a higher amount. We are so glad we are going there!

Dr. Wass is not only an amazing orthodontist but he's a really great person as well. Everyone in the office is always very friendly & accomodating. I actually transferred to this office when I first moved to Iowa, originally getting my braces put on in Michigan. My situation was complicated to say the least, as I had two congenitally missing lateral incisors I needed to get dental implants for. Dr. Wass had no hessitation taking on my case, and he did a beautiful job! Thanks again for all your help. I would reccomend this place to anyone!!

Meeting Dr. Wass and team was a blessing! I have never had much luck with finding an orthodontist that was willing to work with and the issues I had. Then I was introduced to such a great set of people. Every appointment has been so easy going and quick! I am always greeted with smiles and happy people. Never a dull moment! I started my treatment with Dr.Wass and his staff almost a year ago. I have had THE BEST experience with them! My daughter recently joined in, on her own treatment. He has the most awesome ladies working in his office. Along with Dr.Wass, the ladies are very informative of our treatment, and what to expect next. When making our appointments, they're extremely understanding when scheduling our future appointments..since we travel from out of town for our visits. If there was an option of 100 stars, Dr.Wass & his staff would get them all!! Wouldn't go anywhere else!!

I am an active customer right now in the middle of my treatment. I have been so impressed with the efficiency of my appointments. From the iPad check in, entertainment for my children as we (short) wait, and how ready the girls (ortho assistants) are for me when it's "my turn". They are helpful with ALL my questions, explain what they were doing for that day's treatment, and make sure I leave knowing what I should be doing until my next visit!!! Dr. Wass is professional, approachable, and friendly! I especially liked how he showed me the progression of what my treatment will entail, to KNOW the "means to an end"! How encouraging and exciting to know what to look forward to!! Thanks Ames Ortho! I'd recommend ya to anyone and everyone!! :)
