The insurance questions can often be confusing--even to us!! The Bottom Line is this: We 'accept' payment from most insurance carriers which means they can send us a check directly and we can 'accept' it as payment toward the treatment provided. However, this is different than being 'in-network' with a specific insurance plan. Dr. Patten is in an in-networkprovider for Delta Dental Premier and Wellmark Blue Dental.

Originally from Spencer, Dr. Patten graduated from Wartburg College in Waverly with a bachelor of arts degree in biology. He completed his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry in Iowa City before receiving a commission in the United States Navy Dental Corps. In the Navy, Dr. Patten completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency at Naval Hospital Great Lakes. He served two years aboard the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt and one year at Naval Dental Center Mid-Atlantic in Norfolk, Virginia. Dr. Patten is married to Dr. Corrie Patten, a pediatrician at McFarland Clinic PC in Ames. Together they enjoy spending time with their three children as well as friends and family.
Dr. Donald Good founded the practice in March of 1971 after completing a general dentistry residency at the Veterans Administration in Minneapolis, Minnesota.He began with three dental chairs in the basement of First National Bank in downtown Ames while also practicing in Madrid, Iowa.As his Ames practice grew he sold the Madrid office and added two more chairs to the office in Ames.During this time he not only established himself as a highly esteemed restorative dentist but also enjoyed the respect of his staff and patients.
In 2009, Dr. Brandon Patten joined the team as an associate dentist after serving four years of active duty in the United States Navy. Dr. Pattens desire for an excellent clinical mentor and Dr. Goods desire to pass on clinical pearls and years of wisdom and experience made them a great match.In 2011, Dr. Patten purchased the practice and Dr. Good continues to care for patients as well.
By 2014, the practice had outgrown the 5 operatory space and relocated to the current location on University Boulevard in South Ames.We would love the opportunity to give you a tour with your initial visit to our office.

The receptionists didn't acknowledge me twice. The first appointment I ignored it. The second time I left only after they helped someone that came in after me right away. I suppose they treat a certain group of people better than others. I had a dental plan I paid beforehand but would rather let it expire without any further visits than be disrespected for no reason.

What an incredible experience. If you want to be treated with care, go to this dental office. I had an impacted tooth that ended up getting infected, started having an excruciating amount of pain, and set up a time to have it extracted. As the pain got worse, I called the office to see if they could get me in any sooner than my appointment, knowing that they would say no more than likely as they were booked up pretty full. After only a few hours I get a call from them to let me in THAT DAY! They saved me a world of pain, saved me time, and a lot more as this was effecting my work and personal life. They went out of their way to treat me with respect financially, and care through their treatment. As for the treatment itself, again, 5/5. I was falling asleep during the extraction because there was absolutely no strain or anything during the procedure. If you want a dental office that will be transparent about pricing, do their best to fit your time table, and give you excellent care; This is the place to go. All members of the staff I talked to were understanding, patient, and incredibly polite individuals. I'll be going back for future work, as I will be referring my family and friends as well. Highly highly recommend.

At my recent visits to Ames Family Dental Sara did a very complete exam with radiographs. Then she did a thorough dental cleaning. Excellent job! The next visit Dr. Patten and Traci placed 2 new restorations with great results and without pain. Amanda even worked me in early when the office had a cancellation. Very well run office!

Double check they accept your insurance! I emailed office prior stating I was on parents insurance. They said they should take it. I showed up to my appointment and gave them insurance card info. Than came back a second time to finish cleaning as they were running late and couldn't finish in first appointment. At second appointment was at check out and charged $304 for x-rays as insurance didn't cover it. Asked how much my scheduled filling would be with them. Lady at front desk told me insurance should cover it so it should be next to nothing. Gave me $75 credit for X-ray and I asked for printed receipt. Called my mom as this is first time as adult in charge of finding new dentist and asked if this is normal. Called office to release info to my mom about billing. My mom called office and asked about pricing and how much filling would be. They told my mom they would never tell me that it would be next to nothing for filling and they don't accept my insurance. Wish I was told at initial visit once they saw insurance information that it wasn't covered. They told me their insurance gets processed next day and they would call if there is issue and I never got called either. The staff was nice and hygienist was super nice. Office was clean and presentable. I just don't know why staff who talked to my mom told her I lied about being told my filling would be next to nothing in office. Wish they called next day once they found out my insurance didn't cover all the cost and told me instead of waiting.

They were nice but they said I had two cavities. When checked with another dentist, there were no cavities. Seems like they just tried to take my money
