Dr. Amato has completed his Mastership with ICOI, The International Congress of Oral Implantologists, having previously earned a Fellowship with ICOI. Dr. Amato has also completed his Surgical Fellowship, a yearlong hands-on implant surgical study program, with the Misch International Implant Institute in 2011 and continues to study and work with both Misch and ICOI. Dr. Amato is also a member in good standing of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry. Dr. Amato is a fully accredited implantologist and has successfully placed and restored hundreds of implants for his patients.
Dr. Amato is one of only 4 (four)dentists in the entire state of North Carolina to have earned his ICOI Mastership.Dr. Amato is also the only dentist in all of Ashe, Watauga and Wilkes Counties to earn an ICOI Mastership, having already earned a Fellowship with ICOI. Dr. Amato is the only dentist in Ashe County with this level of implant education and who places and restores all of his own implants.
To become a Master with ICOI, Dr. Amato successfully completed over 40 implant cases on patients in his practice during the previous year, and has completed over 130 hours of implant surgical education. There are stringent guidelines as to what constitutes a single implant case per quadrant of the mouth with ICOI and Dr. Amato has actually successfully placed and restored hundreds of implants for his patients.Dr. Amato continues to study and work with ICOI to achieve further credentialization.
The International Congress of Oral Implantologists is a tax-exempt, non-profit, worldwide dental education organization. It is dedicated to communicating scientific knowledge and improving the clinical practice of dental implantology worldwide. ICOI has public information programs, and publishes a bi-monthly journal, as well as a quarterly newsletter. It conducts numerous scientific symposia each year and supports research and education through its Implant Dentistry Research and Education Foundation (IDREF).

Founded in 1984, the Misch International Implant Institute is recognized as the standard of advanced dental implant education. Dr. Carl E. Misch developed the Misch International Implant Institute to help set and elevate the standard of care in implant dentistry using a hands-on training approach. The Misch International Implant Institute courses are unlike any other currently available. Participants at the Misch International Implant Institute are trained in techniques that can be reproduced. Many of the concepts and methods presented have been developed or modified by Dr. Misch. These concepts are not provided in detail outside the Misch Implant Institute.
Dr. Misch has written three editions of Contemporary Implant Dentistry (published by Elsevier), which has become one of the most popular books in dentistry and has been translated into Japanese, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and Korean. He has also written Dental Implant Prosthetics (also published by Elsevier). He has published over 250 scholarly dental articles and has repeatedly lectured in every state in the United States as well as in 47 countries throughout the world.
