This is my third and hopefully my last implant. I am impressed with how quickly and carefully the process is handled. Also, how Dr. Pomeranc calls to check on me later in the evening to make sure I'm doing okay.

Came to this office by the recommendation of a coworker/friend as I needed to have gum graft surgery. Truly to this day I do not even remember the surgeon with which I underwent my procedure - if that tells you anything about his lack of bedside manner.... The procedure day itself went fine. However everything afterwards felt like a disaster. First of all, the day following my surgery I was in excruciating pain - this office does not call in pain meds for this procedure. I did not sleep for 3 nights. Finally I called the office to ask if something could be sent in for me and that helped. Then came the hassle of the sutures. I called to get in at the 10 day post surgery point to trim/remove some stitches as I was having extreme irritation and the development of sores in my mouth due to the rubbing. The medical assistant said that the surgeon would not allow to have any stitches removed prior to the two week point. I reluctantly agreed, and she ended up, taking out the stitches on the roof of my mouth due to the irritation and things looking well healed. However, we did not take out the stitches on the teeth where the gums were sewn in. When I came in at the two week point, the medical assistant, then said the stitches were too far overgrown and needed to be left in. This was very frustrating as I had just been in at the 10 day point and both a medical assistant, and one of the surgeons came in to look and said that it looked OK. Having the stitches left in place as they dissolved was extremely irritating to my mouth. More sores developed and I was very uncomfortable for several weeks. Worst of all, one of the teeth where we did the grafting has fallen and it appears to look pretty much the same as before I had the procedure. I will be going to another establishment for the second installment of the surgery. The only reason I am not giving this establishment a 1 star is because of the administration team. There was an issue with my billing and insurance change, but they covered the costs and eliminated my bill due to their mistake. I really appreciated this. Thank you.

Doctor Eduardo Marcuschamer was dismissive, unhelpful, and procrastinated urgent medical intervention. My dentist told me that I have significant bone loss and a dead tooth which almost certainly will have to come out. I almost certainly will need bone grafts. At my appointment yesterday at Altura, I was at the end of a course of antibiotics to treat a severe infection that had moved into my sinuses with with swelling the size of a grape. Treatment was urgent. I started giving Dr. Marcuschamer the details, but his eyes glazed over and he cut me off. He rushed through a perfunctory exam, gave vague explanations to my questions, and said I needed a deep cleaning before he could address any questions. I told him about the urgent need for the tooth extraction, he said I should go see an endo to see if they can do a root canal first. He said he'd give a referral and went to leave. I asked if I could speak with a finance advisor and he said, "yeah I'm sending you there now." Like, it was a "duh" question, beneath him. The Doctor was there for maybe eight minutes. Jennifer Craddock, the treatment coordinator was helpful, but the doctor had not discussed any plan of treatment. So Jennifer was unable to convey timelines, look at scheduling, or go over pricing. I was still concerned, so she got the same doctor to come back to explain things. He seemed irritated at being called back. His solution was I could come back to his office for the deep cleaning, then go from there. He made it clear he had better places to be. Jennifer's attempt to better explain things is why I raised this to a two star review, instead of a one star. My dentist and I have discussed the options of a root canal to try to save the tooth. Yes, I have questions for an endo about if that would only buy me another six months to two years with the tooth before it would have to come out anyway. The reason I was sitting in the periodontist chair was to find out how bad the bone loss was, if I was a candidate for a bridge or an implant, if I'd need a bone graft before an implant, what the healing timelines for those procedures might look like, what was the current level of infection, when were they available to schedule, and what would be the costs of the different levels of procedures so that I can move forward with an analysis and make a plan THIS WEEK. All of those considerations were urgent and all of them are separate from a "deep cleaning" or what I might learn from an endodontist. Yes, I know I need to deep cleaning, my dentist knows I need a deep cleaning. But my dentist was so alarmed by the level of infection, the swelling in my lips, the intrusion into my sinuses, that she sent me to a periodontist to move forward with an immediate plan. His procrastination on these issues and his dismissal of my concerns endangered my health. After leaving, I called my terrific dentist Dr. Meagan at Wynkoop Dentistry. She spent much of the day helping me with referrals and speaking to other specialists on the phone on my behalf, then going over options to better my understanding. Out of kindness and concern for a patient my dentist has been taking personal time to do the secretarial, financial analysis, patient advocacy, and medical explanations that the Altura Periodontics offices were unable to provide during a billed, scheduled visit, while I was in dental crisis. I will see a different periodontist tomorrow from Colorado Gum Center been more helpful in preplanning then Altura was while I was in their office pleading with them for care. If I didn't have the wherewithal to do self advocacy, and if I didn't have a terrific advocate with my regular dentist, the bad treatment and bad advice from Altura Periodontics would be causing a severe dental incident to balloon into a severe health crisis.
