Im Dr. Eric, co-owner and Dentist at Altoona Smiles Family and Cosmetic Dentistry. On a wing and a prayer we opened our doors for business in 2011. Since that time Ive been delighted by the outpouring of support from patients and grateful for the opportunity to connect and be a part of individuals and families smiling more.
Being a dentist is a great privilege, and I look forward to helping patients for many years to come. Its rewarding to work with a healthy mix of people and perspectives and I truly enjoy the variety my career brings. We enjoy working with kids, teens, and adults alike and provide a wide range of individualized treatment options. Our team is here for the shy and scared person whos seeking out their first positive dental experience as well as the fun-loving soul whos looking to have a smile to match their inner self. After graduating from Southeast Polk High School in 2002, I attended Iowa State University for undergraduate studies. I am a graduate of The University of Iowa College of Dentistry class of 2009. While attending The University of Iowa I met my incredible husband, Daniel. We were married at St. John and Paul in Altoona in July of 2008, and now have two amazing children, Isabelle and Benjamin. Daniel and I enjoy spending our limited free time golfing and traveling. Our family loves being in the Des Moines area close to our family and friends.
As a dentist, my goal is to always help patients achieve a beautiful, healthy smile in a relaxed and caring environment. We believe an attractive smile is the best way to create a positive and lasting first impression.

I just came from seeing Dr. Eric with the biggest smile ever. He did an amazing job on my upper plate, I don't even know it is in. Dr. Eric took lots of time to make sure it was perfect and the price was much less than I expected. A big THANK YOU to all the exceptional staff and Dr.'s at Altoona Smiles!

I have had the best care. Dr Nichole and my team has been amazing and have communicated well with me and talked me thru my journey. It has been long, iam naturally slow to heal, due to Osteoporosis and iam very pleased they helped me with this. Great job!

I went in for the free dentist day to hopefully get some cavities filled and my experience was amazing! They were able to fill my cavities and made sure that everything was to my liking. Everyone was very kind and welcoming. I highly recommend Altoona Smiles for anyone in need of dental care!

I really hate going to the dentist. I am not a good patient (sorry). However, Altoona Smiles does an AMAZING job at putting me at ease, walking and talking me through the experience and billing. I love walking in and being greeted so nicely which gets extended through my entire visit - whether I'm there for a check up or the dreaded dental work. They've also been super accommodating and helpful to my schedule. It has truly been a wonderful change.

Excellent experience Tiffany recommended Altoona Smiles to me and i had my first appointment today. Ali was AMAZING and walked me through every step and explained my options with the upmost professionalism. Dr Daniel explained the procedures and took the time to answer my questions and helped me decide which option will work best. Alyssa then explained the insurance options and billing options so I will know exactly what the costs are. Again thank you Tiffany for recommending Altoona Smiles and for the Team that helped me today , I'll gladly refer everyone I know. Thank you

We had been looking for a family dentist that we could trust for quite some time. When we came into Altoona Smiles we were blown away by their kindness, willingness to listen to our fears/concerns and how they discussed the treatments they recommended. From checking in to checking out our experience has always been wonderful. The check out gal Korin is so helpful in making sure all went well with our visit. Highly recommend this office!!

Huge shout out to Kelly for calling me and talking to me about my insurance prior to me driving from Ames to my appointment. I appreciate you taking time out of your busy day to explain to me how my benefits were exhausted. This shows that you and the entire team at Altoona Smiles looks out for their patients. I was greeted with a smile as soon as I entered the front door. Check-in was quick and my appointment time was spot on. My hygenist Ali did a wonderful job of cleaning my teeth and we discussed sensitive teeth and she explained how Sensodyne toothpaste works. Dr. Dan examined my teeth and we discussed a few issues that I probably will have coming up in the future. But didn't need to be addressed immediatley. His chairside manner was pleasant and did a nice job of explaining things. Alyssa took care of my billing and getting set up for my next appointment. She is very knowledgable and has a wonderful personality. I have been going to Altoona Smiles since we moved here and will continue to be their patient. I would recomend them to anyone! Doug.

Money hungry and annoying! They call, text and email constantly. They wanted double the price of any other dentist I have ever been to fill my cavities. They constantly remind me of appointments I need when I do not want to return and have told them this!

Altoona Smiles has been the dental experience I have ever had. They make me feel comfortable while I am there and listen to me. I just got some work done and am in love with my smile! Dr Jenni is great at talking you through everything and helping you feel confident about your smile. I am thankful that I found such a great dentist.

My experience was beyond phenomenal. The atmosphere was very welcoming. Everyone seemed to enjoy being there even the patients. I was able to schedule for a cleaning on the same day I called in. Ali did a great job cleaning my teeth. Dr. Daniel was awesome! He explained everything they found and what work was suggested to get done with great bedside manner. Luckily they were able to accommodate my schedule and worked me in that day to have the suggested work completed by Dr. Jenni and Sophie. Who were even funnier than Dr. Daniel! They were great and functioned as a perfect team. Sophie and Dr. Jenni both had amazing bedside manners and put my worries to ease. Explaining everything in layman's terms. Plus I didn't feel a thing! Seriously could not have had a better experience. They all were so welcoming, accommodating and funny. All of my questions were answered and everything they were doing was well explained. By far the best dental office I have ever been too.

I went in for an emergency dental exam today with a painful impacted wisdom tooth. I was anxious but oh my gosh they blew me away! They are an amazing team and they go above and beyond to make you comfortable.

I called them first thing in the morning with a dental emergency. By 1:00 I was in the chair. They were all so friendly and described everything they did for me. I would recommend them very highly!

Our entire family has had such a great experience with Altoona Smiles. All the staff is welcoming and does a great job communicating options about our dental care. Our kids are young so going to the dentist can be intimidating but the hygienists and dentists communicated throughout the entire process and made them feel comfortable. Truly a 5 star experience!

I drive 45 miles to see Dr. Forsberg. I was his patient when he practiced in Newton. Sadly when he started Altoona Smiles, I went to a local dentist who knows nothing about TMJ (I grind my teeth in my sleep) and it lead to a poor experience. So I came back to Dr Eric at Altoona Smiles. I'll never trust anyone else with my dental care. He is so compassionate and gentle with my mouth! All the staff at Altoona Smiles is so friendly, sweet, and professional. It's a pleasure to make the drive to Altoona Smiles.

I am not a fan of going to the dentist. Will not say I will ever love it, but Altoona Smiles has some of the friendliest and very professional people working there. Made me feel super comfortable and it will be easier to go back to next time. They did a great job and very happy with the work they did on me.
