Dr. Myrna Altavas has been serving the Bakersfield community for over 11 years now. She graduated from Davao Medical School Foundation in 1986 and started practicing dentistry in the Philippines. In 2004, she received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Capitol University while battling stage II cancer. She continued her schooling while receiving chemotherapy. By Gods grace, she was able to beat cancer and graduated without any delay. Dr. Altavas and her family decided to move to Bakersfield in 2006. She worked as a Registered Nurse in Adventist Health Hospital for 6 years while working as a part time Associate Dentist. In 2007, she finally opened her own dental practice in Bakersfield.
Dentistry is naturally Dr. Altavas passion. She enjoys advancing her skills and learning new practices to help her patients achieve beautiful smiles. Her dental office uses state-of-the-art technology and continues to have a modern approach in serving her patients by using digital dental radiographs, iTero Intraoral scanner, and Dental cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scan. Over ten years ago, she completed training in Advanced Fixed Prosthodontics and successfully treats full mouth reconstruction cases giving patients a confident smile. She is a certified Invisalign Premier Provider since 2014. Dr. Altavas became a Diplomate of International Dental Implant Association in 2017 and is one of the very few certified Pinhole dentists in Bakersfield. She has also successfully completed The Healthy Start Sleep Disordered Breathing/Orthodontic Course and is a Certified Premier Provider of the Healthy Start Treatment. Moreover, Dr. Altavas has completed the Digital Smile Design course thus can perform more predictable, facially-guided oral restorations by using modern technology. She is a member of the American Dental Association, California Dental Association, Kern County Dental Association, and American Academy of Clear Aligners.
During her days off, when she is not enrolled in continuing education classes, Dr. Altavas is mostly spending time with her family. She loves traveling, camping, and, most of all, playing with her grandchildren.

Amazing experience. I had past trauma with the dentist, but after coming here on my first visit I felt very comfortable. They are very attentive and pay close attention to their patients. They make sure their patients are comfortable with the process. Will definitely will be coming back.

Had an amazing experience with Dr. Altavas and her staff. I was anxious for my 19 month old daughter since it was her first time to see a dentist but once we entered the clinic that all disappeared. We were greeted with an amazing staff that went above and beyond to make sure that me and my daughter were comfortable. Also, Dr. Altavas really took some time to explain to me the problem areas that I have based on the imaging that was taken of me. She was very informative and helped me understand what should be done in a professional and positive manner. Highly recommend this clinic!

Very good dental group. I am usually very shy and avoidant of dentists because of my fear of being judged. However, Dr. Altavas and her staff are always so friendly and provide the best service. Shout out to Katie who made my last visit pleasant. I am grateful to have found such a caring dental group.

My daughter has been going to another dental office for years. She goes there for dental cleaning only. Then on her teen years, she has to be referred to an orthodontics. She had worn braces for 3 years which had left stains on her teeth. The dentist said that it will be there, and didn't say any plans for improvement. This prompted me to bring my daughter to Dr. Altavas. After 2 meeting and dental treatment, my daughter seen improvement already on her teeth. Dr. Altavas is a hands on Dentist. She cares for her patients. So I am going to transfer my other daughter to her too. Making an appointment is easy too.

I highly recommend going here! Compared to my previous dental clinic that I have been visiting for years, I felt like Dr. Myrna Altavas is a lot more caring. She and her assistants instructed me on how to brush properly and how often, which has prevented me from getting more cavities. I recently had an appointment for tooth fillings and once she was done, my teeth looked cleaner compared to when I first got my braces of 3 years removed in 2017 when I was almost 15. On one of my upper incisors, there was a white area on my teeth that my previous dentist told me in 2017 was probably acquired while I wore braces. My previous dentist was unable to get rid of the white spot and just recommended a new gargle brand. Due to the pandemic, I was unable to visit a dentist from March 2020 to September 2021 and needed a few more fillings. Here at Altavas Dental Group, it took about half an hour to get my five fillings done. She showed me my teeth in the mirror and it was like how my teeth looked like prior to my braces. Minus all the crookedness and underbite from when I was 12 of course! (I didn't get my first cavity until I was 17.) After my first visit in October 2021, Dr. Altavas also told me that she wants to see me every 3 months until I can show her I can maintain my teeth well. Overall, I'm very satisfied with how my teeth have been taken care of and how kindly all the staff have been treating me. I'll surely be coming back here in the coming years.
