Dr. Shin lives in Tenafly, NJ with his wife Hanna and their two children. He opened his fist practice in 2003 and named it Alpine Periodontics as a tribute to his collegiate athletic career as an alpine skier at the University of Rochester. Dr. Shin went on to complete his DDS Degree at New York University, College of Dentistry. He later discovered a passion for dental surgery while completing a general practice residency at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, NY and Down Down Medical Center and went on to pursue a specialty program at NYU, achieving board certification in Periodontics and Dental Implantology 2003.
Dr. Shin is proud to be a clinical assistant professor in the post-graduate periodontal program at NYU College of Dentistry where he has been able to mentor the next generation of periodontists. Through his involvement in his church, Dr. Shin has also been able to volunteer time to various short-term medical missions to South America. In his free time, Dr. Shin enjoys spending time with his family, practicing Tae Kwon Do (Master Degree Black Belt), swimming and playing golf.
Dr. Shin believes in a conservative approach to periodontics which aims to save teeth by achieving and maintaining oral health. By implementing state of the art technologies, Alpine Periodontics is able to provide individualized treatment options to meet the needs of each patient. The best part of Dr. Shins dental career has always been the relationships he has formed with his outstanding staff and wonderful patients.
Dr. Matthew Flaherty was born and raised in Glen Rock, New Jersey where he still lives with his wife Brooke and their dog Harley. He has worked at Alpine Periodontics since 2016 before earning his DMD at Rutgers School of Dental Medicine. Upon graduating Dr. Flaherty was awarded the Quintessence Award for Clinical Achievement in Periodontics. He is currently pursuing a post graduate certificate in periodontics at Rutgers School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Flaherty believes in patient centered care and truly enjoys getting to know each and every one of his patients.

Dr. Shin is courteous, reassuring, extremely talented and skillful in his field, and provides consistent care each time. I never feel hurried or as if my questions don't matter. Most of all, I feel sure and trust any treatment or plan he recommends, which is very important to me as I never feel like I need a second opinion.

I have been going to Dr John Pullman in Wyckoff NJ. Alpine periodontics took over the practice as Dr Pullman will be retiring in a year. I made my appointment for my 4 monthly cleaning with Dr Pullman as he was still working several days a week. First thing that happened was that I received a reminder text that my appointment was a different day and time. I called the office to change to the one I made but it wasn't available. I came in for the appointment the text indicated. I had the same wonderful hygienist Chris. When it came time for the doctor to come in, it wasn't Dr Pullman! The young doctor did exactly was Dr Pullman always did and was gentle and kind. When I received my bill a month later, I was billed for an EXAM and cleaning. Dr Pullman always charged for cleaning only. I was not made aware of charges being different since Dr Pullman was still at the practice. I expected to pay one price. I am extremely disappointed in the new ownership and how they changed my doctor without telling me. I believe the new practice wanted to give business to the new doctor. I have called the office several times and have been told this is standard practice. Exam and cleaning. I went to Dr Pullman for 8 years. Nevertheless, I will not continue with this practice.

Dr. Loeb gives pain free numbing, had a molar extracted, never pleasurabke but service with a smile, at least he could smile. A-1 experience from a great team.

I saw Dr. Shin 8 years ago because I have two baby teeth that never grew out, and I was worried that they could lead to a problem. He told me he wanted to extract the teeth and put in dental implants. Thankfully, I sought a second and third opinion because it turns out my baby teeth are firmly attached to my bone, and therefore, superior to dental implants. They would only be a problem if they became loose. Dr. Shin's plans were not only unnecessary but also expensive, and I found out this sometimes happens in the dental world. A doctor may suggest dental implants or some other procedure when it isn't necessary--simply because they want to make money off of you. I had to come back and leave a review because it's been 8 years and my baby teeth are still perfectly fine and firmly attached to the bone. I'm disgusted that Dr. Shin had no scruples about potentially putting me through such a drastic, painful, and unnecessary procedure that would have ultimately caused more harm than good. Please tread lightly and seek a second opinion if you see him. He's not one of the good ones; just greedy. Edit: Google doesn't let you respond to review responses (as far as I know), so I'll respond to the owner here. You said "when you get into adult life," but I was an adult when I saw you. I don't have any deterioration, and the two other doctors I visited after I saw you advised against implants for the aforementioned reasons. It's odd that you think it's odd that a consumer like myself would leave a review, especially when an extended period of time is the best way to show whether or not a prognosis was helpful. The whole point of Google reviews is to put power back into consumers' (patients' in this case) hands so they can hold businesses accountable and help other consumers make informed decisions. If you don't like people leaving honest reviews, regardless of how long ago they last saw you, maybe you should think about the long-term impact of how you treat patients. As for your offer to help with this matter, I don't need assistance. Like I mentioned above, my teeth are in good shape.

The office is great. Every step of the way was a positive experience. The front desk was very helpful in answering any questions I had about my insurance and very accommodating to reschedule. Nina does a great job with cleanings always goes above and beyond. After the cleaning Dr. Amin came in to see me for an evaluation for additional dental work. After which he gave me his honest opinion that additional work would helpful but not a necessity. He could have easily justified addition procedures but he didn't. Even though doctors are suppose to have your best interest in mind some don't. Dr. Amin does and stands out above the rest. He truly is a professional and he's honest. It's a joy coming to this office. I've been to a few dentist offices in my time and this one is like no other.

I've been seeing Ana for a few years now for cleaning, and all I can say is that she is truly the epitome of excellence and professionalism. She is incredibly thorough with her work, and I am always amazed at how clean my gum line and teeth look and feel after my cleaning. She is kind, patient, and very caring to her patients.
