Dedication to ongoing professional development through continuing education and the acquisition of new technologies is at the core of Dr. John Holtzens practice. But although Dr. Holtzen is passionate about utilizing skill and technology to change the lives of his patients, his greatest passion is found in his desire to provide health care in a fashion that lets each patient know that he cares deeply for their individual needs and for their overall experience.

Dr. Holtzen began his career in 1999 as co-founder of theNevada Oral & Facial Surgerywith Dr. Brendan Johnson. Over the past 20 years, Nevada Oral & Facial Surgery group in Nevada has offered the most technically advanced maxillofacial and oral surgical care available. Dr. Holtzen has been voted theLas Vegas Review JournalsTop Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon by his peers multiple times.

In 2011, Dr. Holtzen and his wife made the decision to pursue their love of Montana by relocating their family to the Bitterroot Valley, just south of Missoula. He joined the Surgical Arts Centre and became the partner of its founder, Dr. Clark Taylor, the following year. In 2019 Dr. Holtzen took sole ownership of that practice, and it is now called Alpine Oral and Facial Surgery.

A native of Northern California, Dr. Holtzen grew up in the small rural farming community of Healdsburg. He and his wife, Tammy, have been married for twenty-one years and have five children and one beautiful granddaughter. The Holtzen family enjoys the outdoors, hunting, fishing, hiking, and exploring Montanas waterways. The whole family also has a love of animals and raises horses, goats, pigs, and chickens.

Presently, Dr. Holtzen is Board Certified by theAmerican Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeonsand also by theNational Dental Board of Anesthesiology.

Service to the community, in both a professional and private context, is also of paramount importance to Dr. Holtzen. He has served as an associate professor at theUniversity of Nevada School Of Medicineand the University of Southern Nevada. He also served for many years as a delegate to the Southern Nevada Dental Society. Dr. Holtzen has lectured extensively on topics related to his expertise including orthognathic surgery, dental implants, emergency medicine, and others. He has also always made a point to dedicate a part of his practice to providing free surgical care to children and families in need. He has served in various capacities in the community and served for eight years as chairman of the school board for Hamilton Christian Academy.

Dr. Holtzen strives to make his professional and personal life a reflection of his Christian faith and works to have his caring service to his patients, and the mission of his business, all be a representation of this conviction.

Just here in the ER after having his 4 wisdom teeth extracted. My son has a raging infection. He smells like he has a dead deer in his mouth. The doctors have informed me that's it is not standard procedure to NOT send him with antibiotics and a steroid medication. I felt like I took my 16 year old son to a drive through for surgery. After waiting an hour to be called back for his 9 a.m. appointment we had a 5 minute visit before taking him back, then 45 minutes later he was wheelchair to my vehicle still out of it and shaking. 4 days later we're in the Hospital. So no I do not recommend Alpine in Missoula!!

Lizabeths husband Rich here I'm the one who had oral surgery. Absolutely fantastic people to work with. Went the extra mile to make sure I had everything needed to make my surgery successful. I am 2 days post op and could not be more pleased with the work that was done. I would recommend alpine to anyone in need of the types of services they provide.

A comfortable and aesthetically pleasing Dental office. The staff was friendly, kind and very skilled. I hate dental procedures (I think most of us do), they made the experience as positive and easy as something unpleasant can be. I'm very thankful for their expertise and would strongly suggest Alpine for your emergent dental needs.

Nobody likes oral surgery, but if you must go through it, I highly recommend Alpine, Oral and Facial Surgery, specifically Dr. Holtzen. I wasn't up to my usual happy-go-lucky self when I came in, but the ladies in the office made me feel quite relaxed, and the doctor was professional and soothed my fears. I cannot give a better recommendation than five on this site, however, if I could, I would give a 10.

When I went to Alpine Oral Surgery, I was anxious, not looking forward to oral surgery, but everyone was so friendly and reassuring that I felt that I was in good hands. From the receptionist to the nurses and assistants, everyone knew their Job and performed it without a hitch. I wish I remembered all their names so I could thank them individually. Dr. Holtzen is a wonderful surgeon and very personable. The whole process was much easier than I expected, pain is less than I expected and I wish I hadn't waited to do this. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Alpine Oral Surgeons. They are a fantastic group of people!

I chose Dr. Holtzen to remove my tooth after seeing what a wonderful job he did with my daughter's wisdom teeth and my husband's full mouth extraction. Dr. Holtzen and his staff really do all care. They treat you like you're the only patient and also check on you after surgery. They make it known that if there are ANY problems or concerns, that there's someone available 24/7. Before I got "knocked out" the nurse assured me it would be the easiest dental appt. I've ever had...and she was right. I just think they're ALL great and since I already know I'll be getting an implant, I'll be going there again. From the girls answering the phones to the doctor himself, they're really skilled and professional.

I had surgery for removal of wisdom and the molar in front of it due to a kissing cavity. Everyone in the building was friendly, knowledgeable, and educated. Questions I asked were answered in depth. I enjoyed my experience with Dr. Holtzen and his fellow employees/staff. They all made me feel very comfortable Thank you so much!. ~Kari Knoop

Without a doubt the worst medical care I have experienced. Other than their wonderful receptionist, Alpine was difficult to contact, had poor communication and the nurses were extremely rude. I woke up post op alone and believing I was having an asthma attack... I opted to another professional for post surgery care. I will not recommend anyone to this office until staff is trained to accommodate patients with dental and medical fears. I hope this changes.
