Dr. Shiva Kermanshi was born and raised in Tehran, Iran and moved to California with her family after she graduated from high school. After she earned her Associate Degree from Santa Monica College, she attended UCLA where she obtained her bachelors degree in Biology with Suma Cum Laude honors. She then moved to Boston where she received her degree in Doctor of Dental Medicine from Boston University with Magna Cum Laude honors. While in Boston, she volunteered her services annually for the physically and mentally challenged children through the Special Olympics, Special Smiles Program. Dr. Kermanshi was also involved in services pertaining to underprivileged youth through the Outreach Van Project.
Dr. Kermanshi earned her degree in Orthodontics from Howard University in Washington, DC, achieving the highest academic average amongst her colleagues during her postgraduate study. Her two-year specialty residency included advanced education in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics, early treatment for children, adult orthodontics, Invisalign certification, and orthodontics for patients undergoing orthognathic surgery.
Dr. Kermanshi is a member of Northern Virginia Dental Association, Virginia Dental Society, American Dental Association, Middle Atlantic Society of orthodontists, DC Society of orthodontists, and American Association of Orthodontists. Dr. Kermanshi prides herself in providing the highest quality of care in the most gentle and efficient manner possible. She has been practicing orthodontics since 2004 and has had the privilege of treating a diverse patient population at any age group. She embraces challenge as an opportunity to excel herself in her practice and gives her patients the beautiful smile they had always dreamed of. She has also volunteered her services to many underprivileged children over the years and has treated many physically and mentally challenged children with utmost care and passion. In her free time, Dr. Kermanshi enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, hiking, travelling, reading to her children, and writing poetry.
Dr. Paola Sugajara is a Board eligible Prosthodontist. She graduated from Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia, Lima - Peru in 2001, earning her DDS degree in 2002. After getting her dental degree, Dr. Sugajara traveled abroad to do a fellowship in the Fixed Prosthodontist Department at Tohoku University, Japan, from 2002 to 2005.
Her eagerness and passion for Dentistry leaded her to specialize in Prosthodontics from 2013 to 2016 at Eastman Institute for Oral Health, Rochester - New York, where she also graduated from a 2-year program in Advance Education in General Dentistry, followed by GPR programs in 2011 and 2012, respectively. Dr. Sugajara provides the highest quality of dental care to her patients.
Dr. Phi D Nguyen is a native of the Silver Spring, Maryland area. He attended Howard University where he earned his doctorate degree in dentistry and subsequently completed a General Practice Residency at NYU Langone Dental Medicine in Brooklyn, New York.
In his free time, he enjoys artistic pursuits such as dancing, playing the piano, drawing and photography. Through a combination of artistry and education, he strives to instill a positive impact on his patients' lives, and to bring their happiness to reality by giving them a beautiful smile with highest quality of care.
Dr. Mohanad Al-Sabbagh is a Board-Certified periodontist specialized in the treatment of periodontal (gum) disease, cosmetic plastic periodontal surgery, and implant dentistry. He completed his masters degree and a Certificate of Proficiency in Periodontology and Implantology at State University of New York at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine in 2002. He is a Board-Certified and Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and Implant Dentistry since 2005.
Dr. Al-Sabbagh is currently a member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society and is an active member of American Academy of Periodontology. He has achieved significant national and international recognition. He has received several prestigious awards and fellowships from American Academy of Periodontology and FDI-World Dental Federation.
Dr. Al-Sabbaghs clinical focus is on minimally invasive periodontal (gum) surgery, cosmetic plastic periodontal surgery, dental implants, treatment of periodontal disease with laser, soft and bone-tissue augmentation and sinus lift procedures, and teeth-in-a-day (All-on-4/ All-on-6). He has demonstrated a dedication to his work displayed by excellent outcomes from outstanding patient care.

We moved to the area from a small town I was very nervous about a dentist being too rough with my sweet face Son but my nerves was met with a very calming warm environment the dentist brightens up your spirits with her personality and handled my Son with TLC

We found Alexandria Dental Center through a google search as we were looking for orthodontists for our child. This place is a hidden gem! Not only are the doctors wonderful and made the process easy and smooth but the staff is phenomenal. Katrina in particular has counseled me through all the stress of helping my child care for her braces. We would highly recommend Alexandria Dental Center!

Very high quality visit. They were very friendly in explaining to me what they were doing, telling me what options we could do to address my concerns, and talked through my mouth x-rays with me during the visit. Very consciencous of covid precautions as well in the office.

Our 15 year old son is 3/4 of the way through braces. While the ortho has limited days there, she is professional, thorough, and priced reasonably. They have always accommodated us for emergency appointments as well. The facility is clean and well managed. We have been very happy with our experience.

From the onset of making my appointment to getting my daughters X-rays transferred from her previous dentist, the staff was very helpful, thorough and welcoming. Alexandria Dental Center is definitely a family oriented business and will take care of your child as your own. The procedure and consultation is fully explained by the orthodontist and patient care representative who also provided a detailed assessment of the charges and insurance processing. I am obliged to write something about them because I was first time treated so badly in my life. I was offended by this center, especially by Paola Sugajara. Here are my summary of their poor service. (1) They will ask you to fill in paperwork every single time when you visit. It seems that their system does not take any information at all. Before the visit, during the visit, next visit, just be prepared to fill all information again. (2) They won't tell what their real charge is. I was told my copay amount for doing the crown before my scheduling, then told an extra $199 when I came in the morning, and then a potential price change (maybe lower if no crown is needed, but maybe higher if I do need the crown because the Paola said the insurance will not pay anything for my treatment) AFTER Paola gave me the anesthetic shot!! Then I was told differently what the real charge is by different persons in this center, and I decided to leave that crazy place where people don't know what they are doing. (3) Paola was really rude and showed no respect to her patient. When I tried to discuss whether I could try the cheaper option without crown, she told me it was not my decision but what I need to do. It was not professional at all and unbelievable for a service provider to say so. (4) When I requested the x-rays and medical records to be transferred to my new dentist, they sent the x-rays directly to my gmail account without asking me to sign any consent form. No HIPPA consent, no warning on encryption, etc. It was a disastrous experience for me, and I hope nobody else would experience the same thing as me. Stay away from them, especially Paola Sugajara!

Two of my children have had braces here with Dr. Kermanshi. She is a careful and precise orthodontist who also is cautious not to recommend high dollar procedures of little benefit. Also, of all the many doctors and medical facilities I have visited with three kids, this office is THE safest. Very strong safety procedures in place to keep everyone healthy. I highly recommend this office to other people.

My cleaning with the exam and X-rays this week was the best dental experience I have had in decades. I have sensitive teeth and the cleaning was painless, but thorough. The dentists explained everything shown on the X-rays. The practice has state-of-the-art equipment, and was sparkling clean. Happily, my mouth was in good shape, despite the fact that I was long overdue for a check-up due to COVID.
