The purpose of Alcona Citizens for Health, Inc. (Alcona Health Center), shall be to promote, develop and operate such facilities and programs as are necessary to provide quality health care to all residents of Alcona County and the surrounding areas, regardless of ability to pay.
Originally established in 1978 in Lincoln, MI, Alcona Health Center is a non profit, Federally Qualified Community Health Center with locations throughout northern lower Michigan and the eastern upper peninsula. We provide comprehensive medical, behavioral health, dental and pharmacy services with locations in the counties of Alcona, Alpena, Cheboygan, Chippewa, Iosco, Emmet, and *Otsego. (*Otsego county only has school based behavioral health offered in Gaylord Schools.)
A Patient Centered Medical Home uses a team approach to providing healthcare. Your healthcare team includes your primary care provider, other medical staff, those that support you and most importantly YOU!
Your care team works hard to keep your care consistent and effective. The Alcona Health Center team of medical, dental, behavioral health and pharmacy professionals will work with you to establish and manage your health goals and assist you in achieving your best possible health! If you need some extra one on one support our Care Managers and Community Health Workers are available to lend a hand.
Alcona Health Centers volunteer Board of Directors is composed of our patients and other representatives from the geographic areas that we serve. Their role is to provide oversight and strategic direction for our organization. They ensure that we are holding true to our mission and that our services are meeting the ever changing healthcare needs of our Northern MI communities.

Initially, I gave the entire dental office 5 stars, however, after arriving at my appointment yesterday, May 31st, 2022, I feel compelled to leave a review based on how I was treated by the front desk person, Tonia. Last Friday, May 27th, 2022, I received an automated text reminding me of my dental appointment on 5/31/2022, the reminder stated that my arrival time was 11:30 a.m. and my appointment time was 11:45 a.m. as I had previously noted on my wall calendar. Upon arriving at Alcona Health Center Dental Office at 11:45 a.m., yes, I was running late, but still on time for my actual appointment. I was greeted by the front desk person, Tonia, with a very rude and unhelpful attitude. She rudely asked me my name and then proceeded to state that I was going to have to reschedule. I responded by saying, "Really? I got a text reminder saying that my appointment time was at 11:45 a.m. and my arrival time was at 11:30...???" I pulled the text up on my phone and stated, "Yes, here it is." Tonia then said, "Nope, you're going to have to reschedule, you're too late for your appointment." I was confused about how this could be happening, but was not angry or rude. Tonia then asked me if i wanted an appointment toward the end of June and I replied, "Yes, that will be fine." Tonia then filled out the card and handed it to me. I said, "Thank you." And Tonia said... NOTHING, she did, however, shoot me a dirty look. I just looked at her quizzically and then left. The whole staff at Alcona Health Center have ALWAYS been extremely courteous, competent, professional and friendly, with the exception of Tonia. Alcona Health Center Dental Office, you can do better!! Please hire an individual who doesn't let their personal opinions and/or issues affect the way they treat your patients upon arrival at your facility. Thank you.

EDIT 4-21-22: Talked to the "manager" a little while after initially leaving this review. I have never heard a thing back from her. The one star will continue to stand. This is a review of my recent experience only, not their level of care. As far as that, they do a great job. I read long ago that teeth are luxury bones the poor can't afford and that truly hit home when I arrived for my appointment on the 16th of December. I had a few teeth filled my last time there and unfortunately they have cavitied and I need them out. The pain is excruciating and I called the center since they're the ones who did the work along with pulling a few of my teeth. The person who called me back gave me several options and I chose the 10 o'clock option, which was wrong it was actually 930a, and said we'll see you when you get here. No cost was stated to me on the phone and I was ecstatic. I get there and I'm told since it's been so long I now need to pay 115$ for the cleaning. I knew it was only going to get more expensive as it went. I said ma'am, I literally don't have that. I spent my last 5$ in gas to drive the hour down here. Plus, literally my whole job just got laid off. She then tells me to just get insurance and try to come back. That's rich. Let me just fire up the insurance machine and spit some out. If I had insurance I would neeevvveeerrr ever come back to this place. Now I get to suffer the inability to drink a hot or cold drink, unable to enjoy food from the pain, and general discomfort just breathing. My time and last dollar could have been saved if cost was mentioned in the initial phone call. Thanks.

I just want to say that the staff are all very sweet and the experience is like going to a friends house more than a dental office! They make you feel relaxed and very welcomed there. Thank you girls and I look forward to seeing you all again! I can't believe I just said that about a dental office but it's the truth!!!!

For 4 days I've been screaming in pain because of a bad tooth. They got me in today, extracted it and now I'm on the road to recovery. The ladies were very thorough and thoughtful through the process. I would definitely recommend going here.
