No. All orthodontists must be licensed to practice, but at this time only 1 in 3 Orthodontists have continued on to become a board certified orthodontist. The American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) certification process signifies a unique achievementa significant step beyond the two to three years of advanced education required for a dentist to become a specialist in orthodontics. The process requires the orthodontist to demonstrate actual accomplishments in patient care with detailed case reports on the treatment provided for a broad range of patient problems. Board certification is a voluntary achievement that all orthodontists do not choose to pursue. In order to become board certified by the ABO, an individual orthodontist is thoroughly interviewed by a highly respected panel of examiners to demonstrate their orthodontic knowledge, clinical skills and judgment.

One. The American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) is the only certifying board in the specialty that is recognized by the American Dental Association. The ABO was founded in 1929 and is the oldest specialty board in dentistry. The boards purpose is to elevate the quality of orthodontic care for the public by promoting excellence through certification, education and professional collaboration.

Successful completion of the examination process demonstrates the orthodontists highest commitment to excellence in orthodontics to both the orthodontic profession and the general public. It represents a commitment by a licensed specialist that he/she has the necessary knowledge base and skills to treat patients to the highest of standards. It exemplifies a practitioners commitment to continue to keep abreast of the latest advances in patient care, and to continue to deliver these latest advances to patients. Many orthodontists see it as a demonstration of their dedication to the specialty and the highest level of personal achievement.

Since the establishment of the ABO in 1929, the certification process requirements have continued to adjust to the demands of the specialty. Today, the process involves a thorough Written Examination (240 questions) covering all areas of information which an orthodontist should be knowledgeable. Successful completion of this board exam allows the orthodontist to proceed to the Clinical Examination where they present detailed case reports from their practice/residency, demonstrating a history of excellence in patient care. These cases are evaluated by a panel of examiners and later discussed during an oral examination where the applicant is tested on a wide variety of academic and clinical topics. After successful completion of these examinations, the orthodontist has officially achieved Board Certification, for a time-limited period. The orthodontist must go through Certification Renewal every 10 years to maintain their certification status by demonstrating this continued level of patient care.

I'd like to publicly thank God for the skilled hands given to Dr. Stush enabling him to give such excellent care to his orthodontic patients! He was highly recommended to us from another Orthodontist in State College, when we had moved from there to Lewisburg, and now we highly recommend him to you! Dr. Stush's staff is also highly skilled in all that they do, making it an all around excellent practice! I encourage you to make your appointment for excellent orthodontic care with Dr. Stush, you will not be disappointed!

Dr. Stush's artistry and his staff's hospitality flips the entire orthodontic experience from an expected rude awakening to a welcomed change. As my years with Stush family practice progressed, I found myself looking forward to my next visit. Thank you Dr. Stush & the entire staff for the flipping my frown upside down.

COVID Nazis. The pandemic is O-v-e-r. Only office I have been to with my son that is still requiring masks for vaccinated people, still takes temperatures, and doesn't even allow a parent to sit in the waiting room! All parents, no matter the age of patient, must wait in the car! Absurd! And they still have that rude lady scheduling appointments.

Just finished my 3-year treatment at Dr.Stush's today! It was such a wonderful experience that I feel a bit lost now that I don't need to go see them every month any more. The doc and every single one of his staff there are great! They provide top quality care, and they are very warm and friendly in their interactions with me. I am especially impressed by their COVID protocols to make sure everyone is safe. Before making the decision to fix my teeth, I was a bit unsure about the outcome (since I am a 40-yr-old woman, not the typical age for this), and I was a bit nervous about the concept of moving teeth around by force. Dr. Stush and his team made the process very smooth, even enjoyable! The outcome is absolutely wonderful! Besides the better appearance, it is good for my long-term dental health as well. I highly recommend Dr. Stush's for anyone who needs an orthodontist.

Our daughter just concluded her journey with Dr. Stush and the wonderful, kind and caring staff members who work at his office. To say the least, we feel as if we are parting ways with family members. I can honestly say that in my opinion, there is no one who seeks the best for his patients more than Dr. Stush. I am amazed at the progress that has been made over the years in orthodontic work, but to me, Dr. Stush and his staff are cutting edge in their technique and in the equipment they employ. As you can deduce by now, I am enamored with the professional and yet "down home" style of treatment that our daughter received for the past nine years and most importantly, the results can plainly be seen in her beautiful smile! I would gladly encourage anyone who is looking for an orthodontist to contact Dr. Stush's office. I believe that you will not be disappointed in the results.

Dr.Stush and his team are the best in the surrounding area. Dr.Stush and his team remember personal things about you. They treat you as a person not a number. They have treated many members of my family and remembered my father who visited on occasions with my son who has since passed on!!!

Probably the oldest patient the staff has addressed is beyond happy. My dentist said there was a need to close gaps between molars. Using braces was one of the options. SO very glad I chose this. Not only was that problem solved, but an incredibly exciting result was a wonderful smile. What a gift, so worth the time and effort. Dr. Stush and the entire "Smile Team" are caring, skillful, and encouraging. They are all genuinely interested in your progress and success. If you are in need of orthodontic help, I highly recommend Dr Stush and his staff!

Simply the BEST in the area! Great office, all staff are pleasant and professional. Dr. Stush's treatment plan for two (of 3) kids was reasonable, explained to us in a way that included our concerns... and is working - they are both nearing the end of their treatment, he corrected their bite issues thoughtfully. On a side note, I took my kids to three different local orthodontists before I found a good fit with Dr. Stush. The third child had already started with another orthodontist closer to our home and I chose not to switch her to Stush, in retrospect - I really wish I had, no comparison. I recommend this office enthusiastically.
