Our philosophy is a simple one rooted in medicines first rule first, do no harm. We believe in treating the patient then the disease. Simply put, your well-being and comfort is our priority. We especially feel this is an important virtue when treating our children at our office. Instilling fear of the dentist into a child is only likely to produce fear of dentistry as an adult. We believe respect and building trust with our patients is an important step in establishing a rapport that leads to a beautiful, healthy smile for a lifetime. As in treating the disease, we employ ever-present modern technologies and materials and pride ourselves in maintaining a clean, modern facility. We believe the patient deserves the best in care and in quality when it comes to their dental health.
Dr. Wickenhauser and his caring team realize the importance of listening to their patients concerns. In this day with so much medical technology at our fingertips, clinicians may ignore the opportunity to truly listen to their patients. Many times, just listening to the patient about their symptoms and concerns can substantially aid to the proper diagnosis and treatment. At our office, we take our time with our patients discussing any concerns, the treatment options, and the payment process. We believe an educated patient is the best patient.
Dr. Wickenhauser was born and raised in the Riverbend area where he currently resides with his family. He received his Bachelor of Science degree at Quincy University in 1994 and Doctrine of Dental Medicine at Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine in 1998. He is an active member of the American Dental Association, the Illinois State Dental Society, and the Madison District Dental Society. He is also a proud member of OSAP (Organization for Safety and Asepsis Procedures). Dr. Wickenhauser has been published showcasing clinical cases in Dental Products Report, a leading national dental magazine for the dental profession and has been a select member of the Opinion Leader Panel for Coltene-Whaledent, Inc., a leading international manufacturer of dental materials. In addition, Dr. Wickenhauser is currently a keynote lecturer for the Kerr Corporation, a worldwide manufacturer of dental materials, and is an United States and worldwide patent holder co-developing a new novel topical anesthetic for the dental and health profession.
Dr. Wickenhauser serves on the Clinical Evaluator Panel for the American Dental Association (ADA) contributing feedback for the clinical input segments of the ADA Professional Product Review program. He is the 2009 recipient of the Illinois State Dental Society Childrens Dental Health Month Award, currently sits as a member of the Board of Directors for Giant Steps School for Autism in St. Louis and voted Best of the Best 2010 by the readers and online viewers of the Alton Telegraph for Madison County. Recently, Dr. Wickenhauser received Top Dentist in 2016 from St. Louis Magazine as voted among his peers.

Providing comfort to our patients and bridging the gap of fear to trust is important to us. This topical is one of a kind and makes your overall experience more relaxing and less anxious.
This technology painlessly and quickly detects and rates areas of decay that may otherwise be mistaken as stains. It is a harmless and comfortable laser that screens the surfaces of teeth to detect even the smallest evidence of decay. By providing early detection of decay, the preservation of tooth structure is maintained and the treatment conservative.
Dr. Wickenhauser believes in the importance of involvement in the community. Dr. Wickenhauser and his team particularly involve themselves when the benefit is for the children in the area. A good example is attending the local schools to educate the children in dental health every February for Childrens Dental Health Month. Donation of time and money to our local private and public schools including the fine arts booster club, parents clubs, and the Bethalto Librarys Annual Summer Program are annual contributions from our office. Dr. Wickenhauser believes in giving back to the community and continues to do so as a welcomed responsibility to the community. As a result of his community efforts, Dr. Wickenhauser is a past recipient of the Illinois State Dental Societys Childrens Dental Health Month Award.

Dr Wickenhauser and staff were amazing at restoring my confidence and smile by doing excellent bridge work for me. They took the time to listen to my problems and came up with a great doable plan. If I could, I would give them 10 stars!!

Wonderful staff, excellent service. Have been going to them for years. Now my whole family has switched. The entire team here are professional and wonderful. Often times folks are fearful of the dentist, no reason to be afraid here. They know how to take care of their patients with a high level of expertise, all done with great communication, care and concern.

I visted Dr. Wickenhauser in March and was very anxious I had a tooth that needed pulled that was badly abscessed It hurt so much i could hardly eat and it was the first tooth i need pulled and in the middle of Covid to boot! The even called in a Rx for antibiotics for me to help get the infection under control before my visit, not to mention fit me in to the schedual as early as possiable. He and his office staff were so friendly and explained everything and completely put me at ease! There was no pain, it was amazing I would highly recommend them especially if you're like me and have had bad experiences with dentists in the past. They're great!

I have been going to Dr. Wickenhauser since I have been a child. He has been my only dentist. I am 23 years of age. He is the absolute best dentist you will find. If I ever move away I will be saddened to have to find a new one. He is courteous, good with children, and he has a stellar patient-doctor relationship. When I had an interest in dental he let me come in and shadow when I was 17. I really admire him for that and he is a role model care-giver in our community.

I just wouldn't go anywhere else. The care is exceptional. The office is neat and clean with state-of-the-art equipment.There is very little wait time if any at all. The staff is amazing, fun and talented. Dr.Wickenhauser is brilliant, dedicated and keeps my smile clean and bright. ...I'm truly treated like family! :-)

As far as a dentist goes there was no issue. However my husband lost a crown and needed a bridge put in , they did pull the tooth and put in a temporary bridge ... but we ended up going to Aspen dental for the permanent as we found out our insurance would cover more and would be less out of pocket! 6 months later we have a $2400 credit collection show up on our credit report from Alan J. Wickenhauser! First of all we NEVER received one bill not one! No phone call absolutely nothing ! 2nd off we did not get the permanent crown from them so why would they turn in to credit we did! We called they agreed we never got a Bill and the amount turned in was wrong! They said we would still need to pay for the work done...ok perfect can you remove this from our credit and allow us to please? She said they should !! Nope just had another detected change on our credit report that a collection amount changed to $1100 ??? So they are charging $1100 for a tooth pulled and a temporary... that is crazy but guess what still NO BILL!! So if you want to risk having your credit destroyed by all means take the risk ! However I would suggest finding a company that actually sends you a bill and allows you to pay it before they destroy your credit!! Even though they admitted their wrong they will not fix it so now we get to pay an attorney to fix it and pay a ridiculous amount to his office.... Oh and kicker our insurance said they would have paid it if his office would have submitted x-rays like they are supposed to!

Dr. Wickenhouser has been my dentist for a number of years and I have always been happy with the care and service his office provides. At this time that is even more important. I am imunocompromised due to severe asthma. Dr. Wickenhouser is taking every precaution to keep his patients and his staff safe in their office. I strongly recommend this dental practice. I felt comfortable and safe there. Patient care comes first!
