Dr. Bob Scholz, an Alameda native, started our practice in this location on the corner of Willow and Otis in 1967. Dr. Jon Sammann joined the practice in 1973, and Dr. Johnson joined in 1984, with Dr. Scholz and Dr. Sammann retiring from the practice in 1987 and 1996, respectively. Dr. Johnson has remained and was joined by Dr. Jolley in 2006, carrying on the longstanding tradition of excellence in the practice. All four doctors have had strong ties with the UCSF School of Dentistry where they all attended both dental school and orthodontic residency. Both Dr. Scholz and Dr. Johnson currently teach part-time in the Division of Orthodontics at the Dental School.

Dr. Johnson is a Bay Area native who attended high school on the Peninsula, and then headed to U.C. Davis for his undergraduate studies. After completing his degree in Biochemistry, he went on to attend dental school, graduate school and his post-graduate residency in orthodontics at U.C. San Francisco. Dr. Johnson has a passion for practicing orthodontics and now splits his professional time between seeing patients in the Alameda office and teaching part time at UCSF Orthodontics.

Dr. Johnson has lived in Alameda for many years and raised his family here. During his free time, Dr. Johnson enjoys spending time with his three adult children and activities with his friends, including movies and great food. Each fall, he and several friends make what he calls 'garage wine', some of which has won awards at the California State Fair. When he can, he takes long bicycle rides with his cycling buddies, having completed many 100- & 200-mile journeys. Over the last several summers, he has managed to sneak away to Europe and ride many of the famous passes used in both the Tour de France and Giro dItalia.

Dr. Jolley was born in Las Vegas, Nevada. He moved to the Bay Area to attend Dental School at UCSF and loved the area so much, he decided to stay! He loves the discipline of orthodontics and prides himself on staying current in the latest technology and techniques. Dr. Jolley has a bachelors degree in dental science, a Doctorate of Dental Surgery, a masters degree in oral and craniofacial sciences and a specialty certificate in orthodontics. Thats a lot of learning about teeth! He has also published research papers in orthodontic journals in the field of craniofacial imaging.

Dr. Jolley has always enjoyed working with children and individuals with mental disabilities. He has traveled extensively, including several volunteer trips to less fortunate communities where he has provided dental care to people of Cambodia, Peru, Honduras, Mexico, Jamaica, as well as here in the United States. In his free time, he enjoys all kinds of outdoor activities, including mountain biking, stand-up paddle boarding, snowboarding and wakeboarding. He plays the bass guitar and has performed professionally with several groups, touring the western United States, and has recorded four CDs.
