Dr. Eric Schmidt grew up in Boulder, Colorado and attended the University of Colorado, where he earned BA and MA degrees in biology/psychology in 1988 and 1991. He moved to San Francisco to work in biotech research for several years. He then attended the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry in San Francisco, where he earned his DDS (Doctor of Dental Surgery) degree.
He has been at Alameda Family Dental Practice since 2004. He also worked as dental director of Sonrisas Community Clinic in Half Moon Bay, California, and taught dentistry at the University of the Pacific Dental School for several years. His special interests include research on jaw joint problems and providing care for children and adults who are afraid of dental work. Dr. Schmidt is a certified Invisalign provider. He served as president of the Alameda County Dental Society in 2014, and as a delegate to the California Dental Association for three years. He also served on the peer review committee for the dental society. In 2016, he was named a fellow of the American College of Dentists, a special honor which recognizes career contributions to ethics and teaching, service to the community and to the dental profession. He enjoys traveling with his wife and son, playing with his two dogs, playing guitar, bicycling and reading lots of dental literature in his free time.
Carla Dodge grew up in Oakland, California. She went to Pomona College and got her B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley in 1973, and her B.S. and D.D.S. from the University of California, San Francisco in 1977. She has been practicing dentistry since that time in Alameda, California.
Dr. Dodge has been a member of the Alameda City Dental Society and the Alameda County Dental Society since 1977. She is a past member of the Peer Review Committee, Board of Directors and was President of the Alameda County Society from 2006-2008. She is currently on the Board of the Alameda County Dental Society Foundation. In the past few years, Dr. Dodge has done volunteer dentistry in Honduras and Cambodia and looks forward to continuing this work. Carla loves cycling and rides regularly with the Oakland Yellowjackets and Grizzly Peak Cyclists and recently completed her first century ride in San Luis Obispo.
Dr. Laura Kong grew up in San Jose, California. She earned her B.A degree at the University of California, Berkeley in 2008 and Doctorate of Dental Medicine degree from Rutgers School of Dental Medicine in 2014. After being on the East Coast for 4 years for school, Dr. Kong was homesick for California and moved back to do a General Practice Residency at the Northern California Healthcare System VA in Sacramento. Dr. Kong works in both the private and community dental sectors, which allow her to regularly apply a broad range of dental skills based on the needs of different populations. She strives to keep up with the newest in dental technology and materials through continuing education courses with Spear Education, FACE, and the California Dental Association. In her spare time, Dr. Kong enjoys hiking, gardening, spending quality time with her friends, husband and son.
Dr. Mehvish Mirza is a Bay Area native and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Cell and Molecular Biology from Santa Clara University. Dr. Mirza then worked in the biotech industry for several years before obtaining her DMD degree from Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, CA.
Dr. Mirza is a member of the California Dental Association (CDA), Alameda County Dental Society (ACDS), and the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD). Each year she attends continuing education classes and training to stay up to date on modern techniques and practices in the dental industry. She has a passion for providing excellent care in an environment where her patients feel comfortable and well taken care of. She believes in educating her patients so that they can make the best decisions for their own health.

Yesterday was my first visit to Alameda Family Dental Practice. I hadn't been to the dentist since the pandemic started. I needed alot of cleaning and I had a couple of issues. Dr Kong and the rest of the staff were incredible. I wish I could give them 10 stars! They all were kind, informative and gentle. Everyone in the office was welcoming and it was obvious that they all enjoyed being at work. My teeth are so clean and I have a reasonably priced treatment plan in place for needed treatments. I'm so happy to have found this practice.

Great place! Great staff and I just have to call out Holly, she has to be the best dental hygienist I have ever had. She is quick, efficient, kind, capable and on top of everything she does not burden you with conversion unless you want to talk!

I would honestly highly recommend this place because I had such a pleasant experience here the other day. I was having a terrible toothache and I gave Dr. Schmidt call on his cell phone and luckily he responded back and took me in his office. Rosylin was also very kind and gave me the paper works promptly so they could get me checked out. I wasn't even a patient here previously but still they were kind enough to take me in right before losing and even extracted my painful molar. Dr. also called me the next day and checked in on me which I really appreciated. I will be beck. Thank you guys.

Dr Schmidt is one of the best dentist I have visited in my life. It was my first visit so I wasn't sure what to expect. The check-in staff was great. The dental assistant wonderful with the x-rays she took and finally it was amazing to meet Dr Schmidt. He was very friendly and welcome me to the clinic. He took his time to explain the procedures he was doing and options I had for future work. He didn't try to force me to get services I didn't need. He displayed patience, compassion and understand when answering questions I had. Definitely I highly recommend him. Don't trust the couple of negative reviews on Google maps. Only complainers seem to actually take time to review. I am sure there are 1000s of satisfied customer who never came around to reviewing.

The staff is nice and I felt safe there during this difficult time. They provided social distancing, hand sanitizer, and took my temperature. Dr. Mirza was kind, diligent, and knowledgeable. And she has a gentle touch.
