Dr. Mintzer graduated from UC Berkeley with a degrees in Neurobiology & Psychology prior to dental school at UC San Francisco, where he received another bachelors degree in Oral Biology and a Doctorate of Dental Surgery. For his dental class (of '88) he was awarded the Community Service and Preventative Dentistry awards. Dr. Mintzer then practiced for six years as a general dentist before specializing at the University of Southern California (USC) Advanced Periodontology Specialty Clinic. Approximately half of his 3 year training there involved the diagnosis and placement of dental implants. He is one of two board-certified specialists practicing in Santa Barbara county and returned to USC to hold the position of clinical assistant professor/adjunct faculty, where he worked for 13 years, teaching treatment planning and surgery to the periodontal residents. Dr. Mintzer is married and has two children; Ryan (20) and Ally (19) at UC colleges. His wife, Kathy, is a psychotherapist in her own private practice and is active in a number of groups like Ice in Paradise, National Charity League, and the American Association of University Women. Born in Boston, Dr. Mintzer has lived in California since age 3 and is a life member of the Sierra Club. He enjoys the outdoors, environmental causes and electric cars. He was an assistant scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 26. They also have a small, rescue dog named Nicki who's very protective of the pack.

The new normal is strange for sure but all at Doc Mintzers office are great. They are only seeing one patient at a time and are going to great lengths to ensure everyone stays well. It was one of the best experiences i have had in the dentist chair. Doc Mintzer did the cleaning himself. I usually white knuckle any dental procedure due to my tooth sensitivity but it was pain free and I'm pretty sure it was a deep clean. He is the best!

The procedure went very well , and I am happy seeing the results. The team worked very well together and during the process my wellbeing was a big priority for the team. I feel very confident the follow up visits will be just as successful.

Dr. Mintzer and his staff are the best in the world! I flew all of the way from Hawaii to Santa Barbara just to be able to continue to have my dental work done where I knew I'd be in the hands of exceedingly competent, caring and professional individuals -- who are also very patient with my dental anxiety! I highly recommend Dr. Mintzer and his staff and won't ever go anywhere else!

Dr. Mintzer is very good at listening to my concerns and being kind and helpful while providing professional care. When he worked on my teeth, he was gentle and caused me no discomfort whatsoever. He was very concerned with my well being and that was quite refreshing. Despite the fact that my gums were cut apart and later stitched back together (and my tooth was also drilled a lot), I had minimal pain from the procedure. It went way better than I expected. Dr. Mintzer even called me 6 hours after the procedure to check on how I was doing. Easy to handle procedure and a great periodontist! I highly recommend him. He is the most caring dentist/periodontist I've ever met.

It gives me great pleasure to write a review for Dr. Roy Mintzer and his staff. I have been going to Dr. Mintzer for my periodontal needs for the past 12 years. His staff has always been friendly, professional and helpful in every way possible. Dr. Mintzer is a gentle and caring professional, who listens to his patients' needs, and takes the time necessary to explain what needs to be done. I would recommend Dr. Mintzer to anyone who is having periodontal issues, or who needs dental implants. Dr. Mintzer has done three implants for me, to my complete satisfaction.

Dr. Roy Mintzer is the best periodontist that you will find. Not only is he extremely competant but he is genuinely concerned for the well being of his patients. Dr. Mintzer is personable and thorough. He handled the implant for bridge of my front teeth, working closely with the dentist handling the prosthetics. Everything was explained thoroughly and options made clear. I highly recommend!
