Dr. Murphy graduated with honors from The University of Michigan College of Engineering (Chemical Engineering) in May 1988. He received numerous academic awards, honors and scholarships while at The University of Michigan.
While he enjoyed the challenges and rewards of a career in engineering, Dr. Murphy decided to pursue his dream of becoming an orthodontist. In 1992 he decided to return to school at The University of Michigan College of Dentistry. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree in May 1996. Dr. Murphy served as his class secretary for all four years of dental school. He was honored with many dental awards, including being awarded a scholarship for his final year of dental school (awarded to the top two dental students in the senior class).
Dr. Murphy went directly from dental school to an orthodontic residency at The University of Washington in Seattle, WA., widely regarded as one of the top orthodontic residency programs in the world. He completed that program in June 1998, receiving both a Certificate in Orthodontics and a Master of Science in Dentistry (MSD) degree. He completed a research project investigating the stability of orthognathic (jaw) surgery in adolescent patients.
Dr. Murphy was the owner of a private orthodontic practice in Lake County from 1999 to 2021. Upon selling his practice, Dr. Murphy has enjoyed semi-retirement but is now looking forward to the challenges and opportunity of starting up a new practice with Akron Smiles. He is passionate about providing the highest quality orthodontic treatment and he receives great satisfaction from helping to improve the lives of his patients.

This was the most unprofessional place I have ever been to! Literally showed up 16 min after the appointment with a 15 minute window and because it was a minute after we were told that our children couldn't be seen! The receiptionist told us the dentist already left for the day! Are you kidding me!? It sounds to me like the dentist just cares about the money he makes and not the health of his patients! I would never recommend this place to anyone after this experience! I will take my children else where! Thanks for the great first impression!!

Wonderful from start to finish. 4 stars because the male behind the desk was 1. Annoyed we were early and 2. Was rude to us when we asked for a restroom. Other than that it was a very positive experience and our girls are asking to come again!!

I'm only giving three stars because of the dental hygienist. The dentist we had was not personally involved at all. Just took maybe a minute if not less to look at my daughter's mouth for her first ever visit and that's it. We waited at least a half hour passed her appointment time before we were called back.

The staff there r extremely friendly and make the kids feel comfortable. My daughter was nervous about getting her dental work done and they walked through and told her what was going to happen and what she was going to hear as they were doing it.

Dr. Eric Woods referred my child out for a root canal on a tooth that was fixed from this office a year ago,,, so after calling ten dentist offices no one had an endodontist available or she would be scheduled out to the next year... I ended up scheduling with Summit Dentistry and come to find out she doesn't need a root canal because the nerves are still living so $1600 I had to spend out of my pocket for something she didn't need... Safe to say I will never take my child back to small smiles ever again not for a cleaning or anything... This dentist office is full of lazy uneducated and Incompetent dentist and dental assistants.... He never even explained to me why my child needed a root canal,, he's very ignorant and shouldn't be working as a dentist at all!!!! I give 0 stars you only get 1 so I can post this review!

The staff was nice but if your appointment is at 3pm as my daughter's was be prepared to be there for an hour or more to get seen. It seems like they make 7 people appointments for the same time.

My 4 year old had to have a tooth removed. One of the big ones lol. The entire experience was amazing, but what topped it off was when at the end the Doctor, instead of just walking out, patted me on that back and said "You have a tough boy there" made me and my Wife feel so good.

Never seen a place of business that NEVER ANSWERS THE PHONE! Had to go into the location to schedule an appointment because they do not pick up the phone. So unprofessional.
