1.Tongue-tie / short lingual frenum / restrictive tethered oral tissue is an embryological tissue leftover present at about 8 weeks of gestation. It can manifest as tissue that extends to the tip of the tongue, or as a short band of tissue or somewhere in between. Assessment is nuanced; an experienced tongue-tie provider will assess not only what the tongue-tie looks like, but the function of the tongue.

When it comes to a tongue-tie, looks are not everything. If you are told that its only a small tongue-tie, your child will outgrow it, or it does not look too bad, that does not mean that you should ignore it. You/baby would undoubtedly benefit from an assessment from Dr. Santiago the skilled diagnostician and clinician.

2.The genetic component of tongue-tie is in the gene(s) that regulate methylation and allows for programmed cell death. This is a natural embryologic process for deleting unneeded cells. In other words, it is not an inherited feature like hair color or eye color.

4.It is estimated that up to 50% of the population has some anatomical restriction of the tongue, limiting movement, and optimal function. The incidence is grossly underestimated in older literature cited by medical professionals who denounce the presence of tongue-tie. Many old teachings and studies did not have a standardized assessment/classification tools for either anatomy or function.

5.There is more clinical efficacy in treating a tongue-tie than to circumcising a male baby. Surgical discomfort is minimal in comparison to other early childhood surgeries. More importantly, the long-term health benefits will be substantial and long-reaching for a baby, child, or adult.

6.There are many detrimental effects of not treating a tongue-tie. There can be potential difficulties with breastfeeding, latch problems, oral issues, improper swallowing, higher risk of choking, difficulties with speech, underdeveloped jaws as well as other dental challenges. It also increases the risk of developing breathing-disordered sleep, the potential for headaches/neck pain/poor posture, and more.

7.Tongue-tie assessment and treatment requires proper education, proper positioning, proper training, and surgical skill. To properly assess an infant, the provider has to physically examine the baby over the top of the head and lift the tongue with their index fingers. They also need to have optimal lighting (a headlamp) when performing the examination. They should know the difference between an anterior and posterior tie.

Dr. Jed Santiago is from Silverdale, Washington. He graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry. He conducted protein folding research at the UW for three years before returning to the University of Washington to earn his DDS degree. He is a Husky through and through.

His love of learning and the science behind dentistry led him and Dr. Kimberly Santiago to the prestigious Kois Center. They are both Kois Center Graduates having completed the rigorous advanced certification. His drive for continuous self-improvement has led him to learn from all the leaders in his field. He has participated in the entire curriculum of the Pikos Institute where advanced implant and surgical techniques are taught. He was not satisfied with just that and has continued to learn from other leaders in that field like Drs. Norm Ickert and Dean Kois. He has also participated in advanced courses taught by a leader in root canal therapies, Dr. L. Stephen Buchanan. With all of this knowledge he can provide most, if not all, a patients treatment needs. Through Digital Smile Design, even before Dr. Santiago touches your teeth he can show you how beautiful and harmonious your smile will look after comprehensive treatment.

Both Drs. Kimberly and Jed Santiago realized that most of dentistry and healthcare in general are kept in separate silos. Every specialty has a silo. This is not right since we are all part of a whole human body. This drove them to find the links between the mouth and the rest of the human body. Through continued learning from the likes of cardiologists, Amy Doneen and Bradley Bale, they learned the links between inflammation in the mouth and heart attack and stroke. Learning from Dr. Doug Thompson and Dr. Tom Nabors the most effective way to rid patients of mouth inflammation has become an essential part of Airsync Integrative Dentistry. This has opened many doors to help people find answers to their other health problems. Drs. Kimberly and Jed Santiago work collaboratively with many area physicians, naturopaths, chiropractors, physical therapists, and other specialists. All of these specialists are like minded in that they understand their silo does not have all the answers and through a combined approach their patients will live their healthiest life.

During his time off he enjoys spending as much time as he can with his lovely wife and their equally lovely children Simona, Alessandro and Eliana. They are Seahawks fans through thick and thin. They enjoy traveling together, playing with the kids, seeing movies, and eating at all the fabulous Puget Sound restaurants.

Chelsea manages scheduling at AirSync Integrative Dentistry and is a big reason why clients love coming to the office. Her favorite part of her job is becoming close with all the families and watching the changes happen as patients go through treatment. The AirSync team works as a close office family which makes each day a good one. Outside the office, Chelsea loves to garden and her favorite flowers are roses. Shes had a cheery outlook her whole life and was a cheerleader for the Cedarcrest Red Wolves in Duvall, Washington. She was born and raised in Washington state which means she has some local restaurant favorites. One of them is Scotts Dairy Freeze in North Bend where she and her husband had many dates when they first met.

Chelsea works with all tongue-tie and airway patients; the best thing she likes about her job is celebrating the improvements as her patients progress through treatment. She feels a sense of fulfillment when a patient shares that theyve stopped snoring, their speech has sudden clarity, they can sleep again or dream again. She loves being able to get to know the patients often seeing them come out of their shell. Chelsea is loyal to her Mississippi roots and her favorite flower is Magnolia, the State flower. When shes outside the office she loves to visit Cycle Dogs in Seattle because of their plant-based food thats also comfort food.

Andrea oversees all at AirSync Integrative Dentistry and loves meeting all the new people coming to the practice. She finds her passion for getting patients started with their treatment because theyre able to find solutions to their health challenges. And just like her favorite flower, the Plumeria, Andrea embodies positivity. You might recognize this flower as one frequently used in Hawaiian leis. Its known for its fragrant scent and uplifting colors. Her favorite restaurant in Seattle, Caf Turko, is equally vibrant serving Turkish dishes and colorful decor.

Nicci loves that she gets to work with an amazing team as they collaborate to coach and support the patients with the goal of optimal health, starting with their mouths. She loves seeing her patients on a regular basis and developing genuine relationships with them. When shes not in the office she can be found at Fresh! for what she calls hands down the best acai bowls on the Eastside!. When shes ready for a splurge she goes for her favorite ultimate burger indulgence at Black Duck.

She focuses on helping them reach there optimal oral and systemic health while at the same time helping them overcome any dental phobias. When shes not at the office shes enjoying nature. Her favorite flower is the lilac which you can find all over the Seattle area and smell its fragrant scent. She also loves birds and has feeders at home that attract the state bird of Washington, the American Goldfinch. Michelle also shares a love for the acai bowls at Fresh Juice Bar, simply the best!

“My experience with Dr. Kimberly and her staff have been nothing but amazing. She released my daughter's lip and tongue tie under GA at 11 months old. That same day my daughter could latch perfectly. She is now able to eat food without gagging and is such a quiet sleeper. Prior to seeing Dr. Kimberly, I took my daughter to see two different Drs for her lip and tongue. The first doctor, almost damaged her salivary gland and the second used a laser. My daughter still wasn’t gaining weight, and crying non-stop. Lactation Consultants saying I had a low milk supply and my baby was just lazy. I was breastfeeding, bottle feeding, pumping, you name it. I even took my daughter to a feeding specialist at the children’s hospital and they said she didn’t have a tongue tie and because she has teeth now, there is nothing I can do. I struggled for 11 months. I made the mistake by not doing enough research on the previous Drs who do tongue revisions. Let me save you time, money, and heartache. Just see Dr. Kimberly.”

Terrible and a scam. I don't recommend coming here. They don't know what they are doing and will overcharge for things.

Dr. Kimberly Santiago and her team are amazing. I have just recently begun treatment with her regarding my airway and I am already seeing huge changes. I have learned so much from her and the team. I recommend this office to anyone I come across with airway issues. If you seek treatment with Dr. Santiago, you will be getting the absolute best care.

When I first came to this dental office, I would have given them a 4 or 5 but my views changed over time and why I switched to a dental office. Later they were one or zero and I switched to a 2-star review because my recent interaction with them. At first, they were very good and they had a hygienist Cecilia who was very good but left to be with her children. I was referred to their office by someone else. Later I found they were not under Aetna insurance which was a major disappointment but all Costco employees that work nearby are under Aetna. I kept pushing them to join Aetna and finally one day, one of the hygienists told me Good news, we are now under Aetna insurance. Little did I know or find out later due to a poor explanation that apparently, she meant Dr. Jed ONLY. Both dentists (husband and wife) even though they are in the same office carry different insurance plans. So, I got bills from Dr. Kimberley and I found she was out-of-network. Later they left Aetna so both dentists were out-of-network again. Also, my other issues with the practice was the turnover of staff. For some reason, it seems like many staff in the front office and elsewhere would change often. I would come into my next appointment and there were many new people who did not know me nor my treatment background and I had to start at zero almost every time. Additionally, I had an implant with them which ultimately failed. The two dentists boasted on all the wall of all their training but many of the certificates seemed quite dated. The practice went through many extra procedures with bone to get the implant to succeed but none of it worked. They said all procedures were recommended and necessary. One of my biggest complaint was I asked for a consultation appointment before about procedures as to the implant. I met with Dr. Kimberley for about 30 minutes and after I found she had billed my insurance about $180-350 for this chat. None of this was covered by insurance. I had to pay it all. I thought unreasonable from your own dentist and way too expense. I have had consultations with other professionals-lawyer, doctor etc. and was never charged anything because it was a free consultation and they were my professional or it was very minimal. I had never seen anyone charge that much to just talk for 30 minutes. I wish I had been given a heads up beforehand. Just too many mistakes as to billing and surprises after the fact. I was told many times one thing and then after the fact, I would find out it was different. Also in the treatment room, they would show repetitive photos of their children and others. It was fine at first but later became boring and you would think I have seen this many times. Near the lobby, they would try to sell other kinds of other products like add-ons in commission sales. They were trying to get the maximum money out of you that they could. For all of these reasons, I will elsewhere. Implant redone and working well. I did take a warranty out with Santiago Dental insurance. They did reimburse in a timely manner with proof from my current dentist. I think the amount should have been more but because they honored this warranty, I gave them 2 stars.

Dr. Kimberly Santiago and her team are incredible. We had consulted with multiple dentists and specialists for our 2 year old that has been choking while swallowing since birth. It wasn't until meeting Dr. Santiago that we finally had some answers, and felt comfort in the diagnosis and plan. We have been patients for about 5 months now and have done Myofunctional therapy as well as had a surgical procedure which have both gone swimmingly. The support and education are unlike anything we have experienced anywhere. Our daughter is finally not choking all of the time, and is actually eating and drinking happily! We have a ways to go, but are certain we are in the right hands. I would HIGHLY recommend AirSync Integrative Dentistry to anyone. I am certain that anyone who suffers from any sort of oral, airway, sleep, or any related condition, would benefit from an evaluation and support from AirSync's team.

Dr Santiago is knowledgeable, kind, and passionate about her job. Id recommend her to patients of any age. She performed my lingual and buccal frenectomies as an adult, which takes a lot of skill to do fully and atraumatically. She was gentle and did a fantastic job. Nicci, the hygienist and myofunctional therapist, is also particularly wonderful. I know I'm in good hands whenever I step into this place :D

We cannot recommend Dr. Santiago and her team enough!!! We brought our 3 week old daughter to Dr. Santiago due to a possible posterior tongue tie diagnosis since Dr. Santiago was so highly recommended by both our pediatrician and our lactation consultant, specifically for posterior tongue tie. We drove an hour to get to her office and I would do it again in a heartbeat. They were extremely professional, brought us in to a consultation room that was comfortable for myself, my husband, and our kiddo. Chelsea the assistant was so educational, with everything from what types of tongue tie and cheek tie there are, how the laser procedure works, billing and insurance, post-op mouth stretches and references to other doctors and therapeutic options in combination with the tongue tie procedure. Dr. Santiago came in and did an evaulation of our daughters mouth, explained what she was looking for, what physical signs were there, and why these signs were showing up (how the tongue and other muscles weren't working at full capacity). The appointment was 1.5 hrs, this included consultation (this took almost the entire time as we discussed everything about tongue tie) and then the procedure itself which was about 5 minutes, plus aftercare and any extra time we needed with our daughter and nursing her. Highly recommended for any parent who may need to do this procedure with their infant, or honestly any other procedure they specialize in!

I really like the decor of the office, there are a number of amenities to keep you occupied while waiting to be seen such as a small fridge with refreshments, a play area for children, magazine rack and a large tv. I was impressed with the care provided by the hygienist, the equipment is top notch, I was able to see the bacteria live under a microscope on the TV so cool! My son who has autism was with me during this visit and now he is really excited about seeing the dentist which speaks volume for me! I made an appointment for him lol!

Extremely kind, professional, very informative, non judge mental...Those are just a few ways I would describe Dr. Santiago and the staff. I have 2 small children and visited for lip tie and tongue ties as well as concerns with teeth and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. I didn't feel judged at all, my choices for treatment options were respected completely, Dr. Santiago was well informed and answered all of my questions-as was Chelsea. The reception helped set up my future appointments and figure out insurance and billing without hesitation. The office was beautiful and had a calm vibe. Would recommend to anyone!

Such a positive experience! My baby had a posterior tongue tie. Dr Santiago diagnosed it and fixed it so he could breastfeed. But more than that just a warm and caring doctor. The entire office was. They squeezed me in on very short notice which I appreciated so much as you want to get a tongue tie fixed quickly. I would strongly recommend this practice
