Dr. Gregory C. Gell is a diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics- the pinnacle of academic achievement in the field. Originally from Vancouver, British Columbia, he received his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry in 1995, beofre obtaining a Certificate of Endodontics and Masters of Science (MS) in oral biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Dentistry in 1998. Dr. Gell was then in private practice in Durham, NC as an associate of I. Joel Leeb and Associates, as well as teaching in the Department of Endodontics both undergraduate and graduate students as an Adjunct Clinical Professor.
Dr. Gell Married Marena Gell, whom he met in Charlotte after moving to Concord. He lives locally just minutes away from the office, so he is a very familiar sight in the Afton area of Concord. Away from the office Dr. Gell, is very interested in aviation and he also owns a small plane that he flies nearly every weekend. He finished his instrument rating in Concord from the local airport in 2004 and has amassed over 1500 flight hours. Dr. Gell can be described as an ardent sports fan; he has been a season ticket holder for Tar Heel football since 1998 and also follows Iowa Football. Being from Vancouver, he is a huge Canucks fan and makes it to at least one game a year. He is still trying to explain 'offsides' to his friends from NC!
Dr. Watts was drawn to endodontics because it is a feild focused on alleviating patients' pain and saving their natural teeth. She is passionate about striving to give her patients a positive, pain-free root canal experience.
After Graduating in the top 5% of her class at Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC, Dr. Watts pursued her doctorate at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, where she also finished top 5% of her class. She then moved onto The Ohio State University, where she completed her endodontic certificate and Master's Degree in Oral Biology. She is currently board eligible and is working towards her diplomate status with the American Board of Endodontics.
Dr. Watts ' passion for her field goes beyond her time in the office treating patients. In March 2019, Dr. Watts ' research on nonnarcotic clinical pain management was published in the Journal of Endodontics. In April of 2019, Dr. Watts presented heer research at the annual meeting of the American Association of Endodontics, where her research was recognized as a 'Top 10 Oral Research Presentation.' In clinkical practice and er academic pursuits, Dr. Watts is dedicated to providing all patients with comprehensive knowledge as well as quality and compassionate care.
At home, Dr. Watts and her husband, Shea, have three cats named Sophie, Curly, and Rosalyn. She's proud to be a cat-loving dentist who also has a big sweet tooth! In her free time, she enjoys reading, watching movies and documentaries, cooking, baking, and working out.

I get SUPER nervous when I have to go for dental procedures, especially a root canal, Dr. Gell and his assistant are amazingly awesome!! They explained everything they were doing and made me feel so comfortable and relaxed. The front desk receptionists we're so friendly and helpful also. I would highly recommend this office to anyone who needed a dental specialist, they go above and beyond for their parents. PS Loved the dental chair, it massages your back the whole time!!

Dr Watts really impressed me by going into detail what she would be doing each step during my root canal. First impression I thought was that she truly cares about her patients and if they are doing ok or feel pain. Dr Watts also cares about the appearance of her office. It shows the pride she has in her business and things being taken care of properly. I loved the interaction Dr. Watts had with the other ladies in our room assisting her with me. Still working on me with full attention but talking about the weekend and what they all had done. To be honest, I'm not a fan of the dentist/dental specialist profession. Several bad experiences as a child into my early teens just made me not like going. Dr. Watts is a ROCKSTAR at her job! She was definitely a rockstar to me today making sure I was ok and nothing hurt. I felt more comfortable sitting in her chair than I ever thought I'd be. I will definitely recommend Dr Watts to my family & friends should a root canal be needed. Thank you Dr Watts for going above and beyond making me feel comfortable and taking the fear I had away! Obviously no one wants a root canal, and absolutely no one wants an infected root canal. Unfortunately I have had both, and fortunately I was referred here for treatment. Dare I say it, Dr. Watts made my root canal experience a pleasant one! She is so friendly, so funny, and so calming. Great service from her and her staff! I feel very taken care of here!

Wow!!!!! I am giving 5 stars, but i wish there were more!! Dr Watts is amazing! I went in for what i thought was just a consultation and was told we could proceed with the root canal, my anxiety went through the roof. I had one years ago that was horrible, so I was super nervous to begin with. Dr Watts explained every step, calmed me down, and made me feel at ease with the procedure. I was out of the door in no time, crooked, numb smile and all. I can't recommend her enough!!!

Very Honest & Welcoming practice. The Best Service, communication, and Staff(went above and beyond during our visit). Definitely really care for the patient's well being-- as if there own self. After researching several Endodontics, I chose Afton based on the reviews. I was not disappointed! From Gina (first point of contact) patiently answering all of my questions, everyone I encountered was kind and considerate. Dr Watts and Ellie (her assistant) accommodated all of my concerns to make sure I was comfortable and at ease. My case was somewhat out of the ordinary and Dr Watts made sure to inform me with every step of the procedure what was taking place. She also kept me aware of the timeframe for each step. Though root canals are something no one ever wants to encounter, it is such a comfort to know these professionals handle these cases on a regular basis and make a dreaded process end with a great result!

I had an excellent experience getting my root canal. I was nervous and a bit confused when I arrived. The process of treating an abscess a few days earlier and then getting a root canal seemed rushed . Dr. Watts sat down and explained exactly what had happened and what the plan was moving forward. She detailed exactly what was going on and what some of the challenges could be. She put me completely at ease during the procedure while explaining everything she was doing. I am SO glad I went to Afton Endodontics!!

Feels weird giving 5 stars to a dentist but this is the best place in Charlotte to get a root canal and Dr. Watts is an expert in her field. I had all my questions answered even the stupid ones, and I was treated rather quickly and efficiently. I wish that she offered more services because I really trust her professionalism.

It's never pleasant to pay for the surprise expense of a root canal, but Dr. Gell & the staff made the experience as enjoyable as possible. Very friendly and happy to explain everything so you understand what's going on. They have great music playing and very comfortable dental chairs, so you feel very comfortable for the hour it takes for the procedure. Hopefully I'll never need another root canal, but I know where I'm going if I do!

I was a little anxious about having a root canal, but I'm sure this is normal. From my fist contact with the front desk to meeting Dr. Watts, I was put at ease and treated kindly! Dr. Watts walked me through all she'd be doing, and throughout the procedure, she continued to talk me through each step as she worked, helping to keep me calm and at ease. Shae was a wonderful assistant, very kind, and did a wonderful job too! It was so much better than I expected, for which I was thankful! Thanks for such a good experience! Hope I don't have to come back, but if I do, it will be to Afton and Dr. Watts!!!

I was so impressed by my experience today with Dr. Gregory Gell and his assistant. I had a root canal perform, and of course, I was nervous about this procedure. I had been in a lot of pain for several days. Dr Gell made me feel at ease and explained everything prior to the procedure. Also I must say, their choice of office music was a huge bonus!!! You can't go wrong listening to Elton John while in "the chair!". The office staff were very professional and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend Afton Endodontics LLP for your next dental procedure!
