Dr. John Busby graduated from dental school in 1978 along with Dr. Wipperfurth and Dr. Wierwill. Those two started their own practices in Madison, but Dr. John Busby served in the military until 1983. Once out, Dr. John Busby started a new practice with Dr. Wipperfurth. Later he started the office known as Midvale Regent Dental Associates in Madison with Dr. McGary. Finally in 1997, all offices merged into one, forming what we now know as Affiliated Dentists.
Initially, we only had one office, our location off of River Place by Monona. However, our practice was growing fast, so in an effort to meet demand in 2003 we built our West office on Odana Road. That same year Dr. Miller graduated dental school and and we were pleased to welcome her to the team.
The practice continues to grow, and through the years weve continued to welcome new dentists to our team. Dr. Mark Gustavson joined in 2007, Dr. Laura Peles in 2009. Dr. Maggie Smith in 2012. Dr. Brian Porter joined in 2013 and, most recently, Dr. Susie Dendinger joined in 2017.
And while our team has grown, we remain informed by the notion that our success is measured by the experiences of each of our patients. We strive to offer our patients the best dental care but we also know how much it means to them that we also remember their name.
While working as a dental assistant and finishing undergrad, JoAnn applied to theUniversity of Iowa College of Dentistry and was accepted.After graduating in 2003 and marrying in 2007 newlyweds JoAnn and husband Sam moved to Madison, Wisconsin. In 2009 she joined Affiliated Dentists as well as the the newly-formed Madison chapter of theSeattle Study Club, a nationwide study group for dental professionals.
When away from work, JoAnn and her husband Sam enjoy living in Madison with their 2 pointer dogs, Amber Ale and Magnum. They love watching Badger football, especially when the Hawkeyes come to town. Outside of football season they all love heading back to Iowa to go 4-wheeling on the dirt roads and boating on the Mississippi River.
Mark Gustavson DDS earned hisB.A.in Chemistry atGustavus Adolphus Collegein Saint Peter, Minnesota. He continued his education at theUniversity of Minnesota School of Dentistry, earning hisDoctor of Dental Surgery Degree, and receiving the J. Raymond Gill Award for Excellence in Clinical Prosthodontics.
After dental school he completed ageneral practice residencyat theVeterans Affairs Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota.The residency focused on full mouth reconstructions in fixed and removable prosthodontics. He continues to enjoy full-mouth reconstructions on his patients! Dr. Gustavson has alicenseto practice dentistry in Wisconsin, and lives in Madison with his wife, Katie and his children, Tyra, Cullen and Evelyn. He is a member of theAmerican Dental Associationand the MadisonSeattle Study Clubwhich focuses on comprehensive treatment in collaboration with the specialists in the area.
In his free time Mark is an avid cyclist. He annually completes theHorribly Hilly Hundredsbike event out ofBlue Mound State Park, but gets more enjoyment out of riding their tandem bicycle with his children. Along with cycling he is on the Affiliated Dentists basketball team, with three patients, that plays in the Verona Mens League. When not chasing the kids around and exercising he enjoys Badger basketball and football.
