Dr. Obholz says that the best aspect of being a dentist is the freedom. She has the freedom to pursue the level of excellence she believes is necessary to help a patient achieve their goals. This freedom enables her to deliver all aspects of care at the highest possible level and make our dental office a truly unique place in the DC area. Growing up, Dr. Obholz was always petrified of going to the dentist. She grew up in the former Soviet Union, and after coming to the United States, she immediately took advantage of the superior medical and dental care. She ended up going to the dental clinic at the University of Minnesota and was diagnosed with 13 cavities! During the process of getting everything fixed (which took a long time), she became friends with her student-dentist, learned more about the profession, and decided to become a dentist herself.
After graduating from the Scientific Sports Medicine Institute in her native Uzbekistan, Dr. Yelena Obholz received her undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota and her D.D.S. degree from the New York University College of Dentistry. She then completed a residency at Woodhull Hospital in Brooklyn, New York, where she did advanced work in periodontics, oral surgery, and prosthodontics. Since then, she has taken specialty training through the Las Vegas Institute, Chao Pinhole Academy, and the CEREC Pace Program for advanced cosmetic restorations.
Dr. Obholz has been married to her wonderful husband, Jonathan, for over 25 years, and they have three amazing children, Aidan, Alexandra, and Marina. She also has two rescue dogs, Cinnamon (Yorkie) and Pablo (Shih Tzu). When she isnt relaxing at home, she loves to travel and take adrenaline-driven RV trips. Previously, her adventures have included rafting 270 miles in the Grand Canyon, hiking Zion and the Badlands, and skiing at Jackson Hole. On the lighter side of things, she likes to spend time on the family pontoon, reading, and practicing yoga.
When she was little, Dr. Bassilys grandpa used to chase her around the house with his dentures in hand, and it was terrifying! It inadvertently helped her focus her career search on dentistry because she was concerned about keeping her teeth so she wouldnt ever have to get full dentures. Dentistry is also a mixture of art and science her two passions. Every day, she has the opportunity to be creative and use her hands to make something beautiful and functional. Most importantly, she loves meeting different people from many backgrounds and helping restore their confidence with a healthy smile.
Dr. Bassily earned her Bachelor of Science degree at the University of South Florida. Her major was in biomedical sciences, and she also completed a minor in public health. She went on to the University of Florida College of Dentistry to obtain her dental degree. After dental school, she decided to complete an extra year of training at the University of Florida through an Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency, during which she learned to place dental implants and complete more complex cases. She has also taken courses through the Dawson Academy, Implant Educators, and is certified through the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. She is Invisalign certified as well.
Dr. Bassilys parents are Egyptian immigrants who came to the US to seek better opportunities. She and her brother were raised in Florida, and she eventually met her husband through her church at the Coptic Medical Conference for young healthcare providers. They were married in 2018 and moved to DC for her husbands residency (he is a plastic and reconstructive surgeon at Georgetown University).
In her free time, Dr. Bassily loves to bake desserts and play music on the piano as well as an Egyptian string instrument called the qanun. She also loves to travel, and she combines this with her passion for dentistry by regularly going on dental mission trips. In the past, she has served in Namibia, Ecuador, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Bolivia, Guatemala, and Egypt.
Dr. Bruhn believes that the key to great dentistry is a trusting relationship between the patient and doctor. She loves having the opportunity to form longstanding connections with people while providing them with comprehensive, quality dental care in a comforting environment. Dr. Bruhn decided to become a dentist when she had braces as a teenager. She was mesmerized by how much orthodontics could completely change a person's smile and their whole face. She went to dental school with orthodontics in mind, but after she got there, she realized that dentistry goes beyond giving people straight teeth and fell in love with the beauty of general dentistry.
Dr. Bruhn attended the University of Notre Dame before earning her dental degree at the Columbia University College of Dental Medicine. This was followed by completing a General Practice Residency at the Baltimore VA Hospital, during which she received advanced training on providing root canals, extractions, dental implants, crown and bridgework, and more. She continues to expand her education through her membership in the Academy of General Dentistry.
Dr. Bruhn and her husband live in DC. Her parents are in the area as well, and if she isnt hanging out with them, she loves visiting her older sister and playing with her adorable nephews. Her parents are originally from Hungary, and most of her extended family is still there, so she tries to visit them at least once a year. At home, her hobbies include cooking, baking, skiing, and trying new restaurants.

I have been looking for a great dental team for quite a while, and I finally landed at the right practice! The quality of service and true team approach made this the best dental practice that I've ever experienced. Everyone on the team took the time to explain what to expect and even made sure that I understood what my insurance would and would not cover up front. Most important, I appreciate their expertise and how they made me feel comfortable throughout the visit. Lamika and Dr. Bruhn were great!

I love this place (and I hate dentists!!). They do one-day crowns relatively fast and definitely painless. Great for people with busy schedules or who aren't in town long. Professional and painless. I've had two crowns done here - one a year and a half ago and never a problem afterwards, and one today which feels great. Highly recommended.

An exceptional experience and service, I came for cleaning and whitening procedures. We found out that I need to do a filling and a crown replacement, since I have a pretty busy schedule I asked if we can do all of this today! And I was simply impressed that I was able to accomplish all of that the same visit! It was an amazing experience, as always! Aesthetic & Family Dentistry on Wisconsin Ave is the most incredible dentist I've ever been to! Every staff member is friendly and helpful. From booking to insurance to the services themselves, I am extremely satisfied! I was able to get a desirable appointment time (4:45 pm) that works with my schedule. While there, I found out I needed 2 fillings. During the appointment, Amie checked with my insurance so when I checked out I would know the exact cost to pay when I returned. She also helped me find an appointment just 5 days later to get the fillings! Khina was an amazing hygienist in my cleaning and was very friendly. Lamika was incredible as the hygienist during my fillings. Both Khina and Lamika made me feel so welcomed and talked with me as a person, not just a patient. Dr. Obholz is without a doubt a phenomenal dentist. She talked through every step of both appointments. She helped explain every step that she took and even showed me the pictures of the teeth that required fillings. Dr. O also provided above necessary care in offering numbing gel when she knew it would be a painful area. She talked through what the process would be like at my initial appointment and the day of. She completed both fillings with no numbing and I was in and out of the office within 15 minutes. I felt very comfortable the entire time and I am extremely happy to have found such an incredible office right in my neighborhood. If you are considering booking here, I highly recommend!

I've been a patient at Aesthetic & Family Dentistry for almost a decade now and I can't imagine going anywhere else for my dental work. They really take comfort into account, making dental work a pleasant experience, which is really saying something. My dental hygienist was Ruth, and my doctor was Dr. Obholz, and I adore both of them. I'm really looking forward to my next dental appointment!

A visit to the Dentist is never a trip that's high on most people list of places to visit. If you struggle with that problem, please switch your regular dentist office to come here for your routine visits. I promise you narrative about dentist visits will change once you step foot into beautiful facility. Actually you don't even have to step foot in the building to feel the hospitality and professionalism, Ami took my info over the phone and was clear and concise with booking me an appointment same day! Let's get into how amazing Dr. Bassily and Khina are. They were more than helpful, informative and did not make me feel uncomfortable in any way. I have ever been more excited to return, and grow on my oral health journey!
