Since its humble beginnings in one small office, ASD has grown to include two surgery centers, several doctors and a specialized staff, professionally trained and certified for the specific treatment of sedated patients.

Sedation dentistry is safe for most people, and if a sedation method is used, it should always be administered by trained, licensed and experienced personnel. However, you should always talk to your dentist about your medical history, as not everyone will be a good candidate for every sedation method. If you have COPD, sleep apnea, certain medication allergies or other risk factors, you may be more likely to develop complications from the anesthesia.
There are different types of anesthesia, and they each have specific uses and outcomes. Most local anesthetics take effect within 10 minutes, and the numbing feeling can last a few hours, depending on how much anesthesia was used, where in your mouth the dental work was done, and how fast your body metabolizes the drug.

During his naval career, Dr. Futerman describes the highlights as serving on the aircraft carrier CVN 69 USS Dwight D. Eisenhower during 9/11/2001 and working as an oral surgeon at the Naval Medical Center at Portsmouth.
Realizing the invaluable contribution of anesthesia to the success of dentistry, Dr. Futerman continued his education by completing a residency in Anesthesiology at The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. His fondest memory of his time in New York is meeting his future wife in the operating room, who was simultaneously completing her Obstetrics and Gynecology training at Mount Sinai.
Dr. Futerman is a diplomate of both the American and the National Dental Boards of Anesthesiology (ADBA, NDBA). He is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA), Society for Ambulatory Anesthesia (SAMBA), American Society of Dentist Anesthesiologists (ASDA) and American Dental Society of Anesthesiology (ADSA).
For more than 15 years, Dr. Futerman has volunteered at the Chesapeake Care Clinic as a dental surgeon in the Hampton Roads Dental Center. He has provided countless hours of diagnostic and therapeutic dental surgical services as well as serving as a clinical instructor for dental students rotating from the VCU School of Dentistry.
For the last two years, Dr. Futerman and ASD have partnered with Dr. Biery and MountainView Dental to spread free smiles across the state of Virginia through the Dentistry from the Heart organization. Heading into its third year, the team hopes to provide 200 free smiles in one intense day of donating dentistry to those in need with limited access to care. Dr. Futerman continues to support Operation Smile, a worldwide charity for children with correctable facial deformities such as cleft palate.
Dr. Futerman remains grateful to the community of Hampton Roads for helping ASD grow from a one-provider location, to a multiple-office, multi-specialty practice offering pain-free, worry-free dentistry from the Oceanfront to the Shenandoah Valley.

If you're in search for a good dentist, look no further! I've always been one of those people that was scared/self conscious about going to the dentist because I felt like my teeth were horrid and these people have a way of making you feel completely comfortable through the entirety of your visits (yes, even from the moment you walk in). I've been getting dental work here for the past year to fix my smile. I've been through several fillings, a crown and some extractions (All without the sedation) and there wasn't a single time where I didn't feel comfortable/safe here. Yesterday I finally got my smile completed and to say I couldn't be happier with the outcome would be an understatement! They truly care about their clients and returning their confidence! So give this place a go, I promise it's worth it!

I had a great experience at Advanced Sedation Dentistry. I had not seen a dentist in 15 years due to my extreme dental phobia as well as my Asperger's and over-senstivity to light, sounds and smells and reactive behaviors. My first contact was receptionist Trish and she was great de-esculating my fears and addressing my concerns. From the receptionists all the way to the Dr Delva (who was also a great listener and de-esculater) everyone was great!

I attend the Chesapeake office and this has been the best experience that I have ever had with any dentist. I swear by this dentist. I always feel so comfortable and I never feel any pain and I have gotten cleanings, fill-ins and more.

I went for an original appointment on Jun 28. They needed a medical release (due to my health history) which I obtained. I never received a phone call back to inform me of what was going on. I kept calling, repeatedly, and finally, this past Mon. Aug 22nd I was informed that I wasn't a candidate for outpatient surgery although my medical team had approved it. Almost 2 mths wasted that I could have been pursuing another practice. Just very poor consideration for a client.

Best dentist I've ever been to. Most offices are scary even going in. I feel so comfortable at this office. Trish is wonderful. She makes me laugh at every visit. Dr Delva is great. She is gentle and caring. I just finished up with several visits to get my mouth ready for partials. My partials were delivered 2 days ago and I love them. I'm kind of sad that I have no appts coming up soon.
