The thought of a root canal may make you fearful or uneasy if you arent familiar with the procedure. There are common misconceptions that endodontic treatments such as root canals, cause pain and/or illness, when the exact opposite is true. The pain, inconvenience and cost of avoiding endodontic treatment in favor of tooth extraction or a wait-and-see approach can be easily avoided. The longer you postpone treatment, the higher the risk for infection, swelling, or bone loss around the roots of your teeth.
Decades ago that may have been the case, but with modern technology and anesthetics, you wont experience any more pain than if you went to have a cavity filled. The pain from a severe toothache, often caused by damaged tissues in the tooth, can be easily remedied when an endodontist removes the damaged tissue through root canal treatment. In addition, endodontists are experts in pain management, and most cases can be treated quickly and comfortably.
Information you may find on the internet or elsewhere claiming that those who receive a root canal treatment are more likely to become ill or contract a disease in the future simply isnt true. This false claim was based on long-debunked and poorly designed research conducted nearly a century ago, long before modern medicine understood the causes of many diseases. There is no valid, scientific evidence linking root canal treatment to disease elsewhere in the body.
Saving your natural teeth, if possible, is always the best option. Nothing artificial can replace the look or function of a natural tooth so its important to always consider root canal treatment as an option. Endodontic treatment has a high success rate and many root canal-treated teeth last a lifetime. Replacing an extracted tooth with a bridge or implant requires more time in treatment and may result in further procedures to neighboring teeth and supporting tissue.

Had a previous chronic root canal issue and went to Dr Pittel for another opinion. She took the time to really examine the problematic situation with a recommendation that was spot on. She was very knowledgeable, took the time to SHOW me what could be making this particular root canal so complicated and her advice was extremely helpful. I am so grateful.

This whole office is absolutely incredible. I woke up in severe pain due to swelling and my dentist referred me here. They got me in the same day, took care of me and continued to ensure I was getting the medication that I needed for the infection. I cannot thank the staff enough for all that they did.

Everyone there is extremely polite and professional. I never want to get another root canal but if the need for one popped up, I wouldn't hesitate going back to see them.

Dr. Pittel is amazing. I almost got emotional because for the first time ever in many years someone didn't blow off my concerns. I knew something was not right but I was on the "wait and see" plan, paid for an expensive mouthguard, trusting my dentist because what else can you do? Nobody believed me when I said something is wrong. After literally months of off and on pain I decided I needed a second opinion with Dr. Pittel before I tried to go back, plead and beg my dentist to look for problems... Dr. Pittel was kind, methodical and talked to me like an adult. We did some tests and scans and were able to diagnose the problem. She showed me, explained to me like I was an intelligent being and for the first time in a long time I felt heard and believed. The best choice in town is Dr. Pittel and her very caring staff. Please, I beg you, if you are getting the runaround from other dental providers advocate for yourself and go seek Dr. Pittel out for help.

This office is very user-friendly. The receptionist assisted me with the sign in documents. The dental assistance were excellent in helping me take a good x-ray due to balance. And the doctor was extremely thorough and pleasant to deal with.
