Dr. Gloria Ward earned her first D.D.S in her home country of Colombia, South America from CES University and received a Master of Science in Periodontal Prosthesis. She moved to Virginia in 1999 and obtained a Master of Science in Dental Materials and later on earned her second D.D.S. degree - Magna Cum Laude - at Virginia Commonwealth University in 2003.
In addition to practicing dentistry, Dr. Ward is certified in Oral Conscious Sedation from VCU School of Dentistry and speaks Spanish fluently. She also has a special interest in Sleep Apnea and works with multiple Sleep Specialists in the area.
DaVette is a passionate Registered Dental Hygienist who obtained her Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She was raised in both Glen Ridge, New Jersey & Wilmington, North Carolina prior to moving to the Richmond area in 2018. DaVette is certified in CPR as well as Local Anesthesia and Nitrous Oxide. She takes pride in being a clinician and educating her patients on proper oral hygiene care. Traveling, wineries, reading, baking, and photography are among some of her favorite hobbies. In her time outside of the office, she loves spending it with her family, friends, and significant other & her life quote is: Wherever life plants you, bloom with grace.
Susan was born in California and grew up in Virginia Beach. She has called the Richmond area home since 1999. She began her career in dentistry in 1997 as an assistant and has had the opportunity to work in many aspects of the dental office. She likes seeing the transformation of her patients' smiles. When she is not at work she enjoys DIY projects, gardening and spending time with her family and friends. She really wants a dog but has not found the right one yet!
Jessie Hernandez is originally from Peru, South America. She graduated from USMP Dental School and earned her DDS in her home country. She began working for Dr. Ward February 2016. She looks forward to joining the School of Dentistry at VCU to obtain a second dental degree and practice in the Richmond area. Jessie is an anesthesia assistant certified in CPR, radiology and continues OSHA training. She loves helping patients achieve a perfect smile and a healthy mouth. In her spare time, Jessie enjoys spending time with her puppy Luna, playing golf, and traveling.
Carla was born in New York City and has lived in Virginia since 2000. She got her Bachelors in Painting at VCU. Carlas love of dentistry was born because she was able to work with her hands, be creative, and help patients gain a beautiful and healthy smile. Carla graduated from J. Sergeant Reynolds certified in Dental Assisting. She also has a passion for Obstructive Sleep Apnea, from educating patients on options for treatment or information about OSA. Carla is a member of the Virginia Academy of Sleep Medicine and stays up to date on the latest research and options for treatment. Carla is also certified in CPR, radiology, and OSHA training. Outside the office, she enjoys playing roller derby, playing/coaching soccer, love her dog Cone, volunteering at the Richmond SPCA, painting/crafting, cooking up new recipes, and spending time with her family (especially her three nieces).
Martha Rodgers was born in Clearwater, Florida and grew up in Chester, Virginia. She graduated from J. Sargeant Reynolds with a degree in Dental Laboratory Technology. She chose to work in a dental office so that she could meet the patients and help create their new smiles. When she is not working, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She also likes reading, hiking, working out, going to the beach, going to museums, and trying new restaurants.
Michelle Davis comes to Advanced Dentistry of Virginia with over 30 years of dental experience. Throughout her carrier, Michelle has performed many different roles as a dental professional. She started out in dentistry as a dental assistant, moving into dental merchandise sales, and eventually into office management. Her vast knowledge of the dental industry makes her a valuable member of our team. She delivers exceptional customer service and is passionate about harmonizing the dental team to maximize their personal and business fulfillment. Michelle enjoys playing golf and spending time at her retreat on Hatteras Island with her family.

Great 1st visit Team and Dr Gloria Ward were very thorough. Office is very clean and best sterilization practices are top priority. With all that said the staff was extremely personable and inviting. This is a rare combination these days. I would not hesitate referring family and friends.

My first appointment with Dr Ward. She is so pleasant, thorough, & knowledgeable. Da Vette, hygienist, was gentle & did a great job educating me. I love that she plays music & hums. It was relaxing. Michelle was kind & efficient. Great experience!

Dr Ward did an incredible job repairing my broken front tooth in one sitting. I think it looks nicer than the original! It seems that she is an artist with matching the color of my existing teeth. I must also say that her staff was very professional and kind to me.

Dr. Ward is gentle, kind and exceptional at explaining procedures. She is diligent in making sure that I understand the treatment plan for that appointment and subsequent appointments as well. The office staff and dental assistants are amazing!! 5 stars experience every time!!

Recently I have been to Dr.Ward's office several times. The office is very neat and quiet. No one speaks loudly there. Michelle and Susan responded to my emails promptly. Once Michelle printed my message and put it on Dr.Ward's desk so she could see it when she came back. I'm so grateful. Carla is very nice and caring . She always explained the details patiently. Dr. Ward is one of the most intelligent , professional dentists I have ever met. My teeth have a terrible situation. I have seen three dentists and all failed. First Dr. Ward spent two hours to do the fillings. The color she chose was perfect . I couldn't tell which teeth were filled. When I needed to have the impression the tool was too big. She adjusted the tool many times so it could fit me.She likes to do her work perfectly. I drove more than one hour to Richmond but it is worth it! I will tell more after I get my implant restoration ( a long bridge). But I can't wait to recommend Dr. Ward to people who want to get a nice smile! Sent from my iPad Sent from my iPad

I was treated kindly and respectfully by Dr. Ward and staff and the physical atmosphere was pleasant and inviting. The dental assistant reviewed the day''s procedure which helped to relieve any anxiety.The procedure itself went smoothly. I have more dental work to be done and I feel comfortable under Dr. Ward's professional care.

Contracted with Dr. Ward in January 2019 for implants because they accepted my Cigna Insurance which has a zero maximum & are completely covered. Was told on numerous visits (23 total) they were unable to submit to to Cigna until final implant placement. In June 2020 I was required to pay $20,013 for the final prosthesis. The contracted amount between Cigna & Dr. Ward was $2,551. Therefore I would be reimbursed the $20,013 I paid upfront. My prosthesis was placed on January 12, 2021. After numerous calls to Cigna I was told that Dr. Ward had cancelled her contract with Cigna & no longer accepted their insurance as of December 2020. At no time, at any of my visits with Dr. Wards office was I told my insurance would no longer be accepted after December 2020. Had I been informed by Dr. Ward I would have scheduled my final placement in December 2020 & been reimbursed the $20,013 I had paid upfront in June 2020. Although what Dr. Ward did to me may not be illegal it was not only unethical but this behavior was extremely unscrupulous. I would not recommend her services to anyone. In addition I would make sure to ask at every visit if they still accept your insurance as they cannot be trusted to notify you when they don't.
