Do you need the services of a Prosthodontist in Virginia or the Richmond VA area? Dr. Ursula Klostermyer DDS, Ph.D. is a highly skilled and educated Prosthodontist who is taking new Prosthodontics patients in Virginia.

Prosthodontics is one of only nine dental specialties recognized by the American Dental Association (ADA). It is the only specialty dedicated to reconstructive, esthetic and implant dentistry. The ADA accredited program consists of 3 years of rigorous post-doctoral clinical training, following dental school, including hands-on fabrication of prosthetic appliances in the dental laboratories and classroom instructions. Thus, in addition to training commensurate with a degree in general dentistry, the prosthodontist receives extensive formal training in the areas of treatment planning, function of occlusion (bite), full-mouth reconstruction cases and the utilization of tools and techniques to achieve natural looking tooth replacement.

The prosthodontist draws up the treatment plan and is the captain of the multi-disciplinary restorative/esthetic team including other dental/medical specialists. The field of cosmetic dentistry is not a specialty recognized by the ADA. Prosthodontics is the only specialty that offers extensive formal clinical training in esthetic procedures (often described as cosmetic dentistry). There are only 2,900 prosthodontists in comparison to 148,000 general dentists in the United States. Post-graduate programs in prosthodontics are highly sought after and involve much time, money and effort to complete.

You know that quality is attainable if you work within your skill-set. Your general dentist should refer you to an endodontist for a root canal treatment, a periodontist for gum treatment, or an orthodontist for braces. Each of these specialists is focused on their particular field and can produce high-quality outcomes.

Dr. Ursula Klostermyer DDS completed a degree in dentistry from the University of Goettingen, Germany. As part of the program, she spent several months voluntarily in a rural section of Brazil working with local dentists and limited resources to provide dental services to those in need. During her studies, she met her husband John, an American, who was completing a doctoral degree in Goettingen.

Following the dental program, she completed a doctoral thesis on the treatment of special-needs patients and then moved to Frankfurt to open a practice. In 2000 she and her family moved to NJ and Dr. Klostermyer soon entered a postgraduate program in prosthodontics at the Department of Prosthodontics and Biomaterials at the University of Medicine and Dentistry in New Jersey (UMDNJ), now renamed Rutgers Dental School.

Following the completion of the degree in prosthodontics, Dr. Ursula Klostermyer also completed a 2-year fellowship in implant dentistry. Working with some of the major dental implant manufacturers she developed numerous treatment plans and placed hundreds of implants.

She is well aware of how important their exact and proper placement is with regard to the successful execution of subsequent prosthetic/esthetic treatment. She also taught both undergraduate and post-graduate students at UMDNJ. Her eventual goal was to again operate her own practice as this provides a platform where she could aptly provide the advanced treatment planning, esthetic and restorative dental skills acquired through years of postgraduate study and clinical treatment.

Dr. Klostermyer is a member of the American College of Prosthodontics, the American Dental Association, Virginia Dental Association, Richmond Dental Association, the American Association of Maxillofacial Prosthodontists, and the American Association of Women Dentists.

Dr. Klostermyer also has a passion for contemporary architecture, design, and abstract expressionist art. She has exhibited paintings in Frankfurt, New York, and Tokyo and continues to paint in her free time. She is married and has a son and a daughter, and two cats.

The dentist is 5 stars. She is so thorough and doesn't do any 'upselling.' The dental hygienist I've seen is also excellent. My problem was with their payment policy. They will file with your insurance and my insurance pays me directly but I have to wait for that check. I asked if I could pay in 30 days that way I have time to get the check from insurance. They said they cannot do that. They require payment immediately (which makes sense if I was delinquent or did not pay) however I have always paid as soon as I got the check from insurance. Many people cannot pay well over $700 for a filling until they get the insurance reimbursement. I'd suggest this policy be reviewed and they consider a case by case basis. If you've pay (every time) within 30 days of service that should be acceptable. Today I got my teeth cleaned and my balance was over $400. It's worth it. Totally! However, I will now need to find another dentist because they cannot offer a grace period for payment (30 days, which seems reasonable).

I have mentioned this before but it is worth repeating: Dr. Ursula and her team are the absolute best ever! Speaking as someone who is terrified of dentists I can honestly say that from the moment I walk into the office I am relaxed. I don't believe there is anyone in their profession any better. Today I want to mention Karen, Dr. Ursula's dental assistant. She is the backbone of the office. I absolutely love her! I would like to give them 10 stars!

Extremely friendly staff. Dr K. even took the time out of her day to call my previous provider to clarify treatment objectives and medications that might have affected my health... and then she called me personally. Outstanding! M

Personable dentist and very caring assistant but my almost full mouth restoration did not result in the cosmetic or functional result I had hoped for and expected. Overall, I am disappointed in the quality of the work done and would not recommend this practice for cosmetic work or bite issues.

From the moment I met Dr. Klostermyer, she made me feel confident she knew exactly what she was doing and she proved it at every appointment. I now have wonderful dentures, my dictation is so much better and I'm ready to eat a Brontosaurus steak. Thank you Dr. K and Karen.

One of my crowns came off during the July 4th weekend. I'm in the process of relocating to RVA and had no dentist at the time. Not good when you need emergency care. However, my daughter-in-law recommended her dentist, Dr. Ursula Klostermyer. I called on the 4th, spoke to a very nice lady right away who explained the practice would shortly be on vacation but to call next morning at 8:00 am. That is what I did, and thankfully, they were able to see me! Dr. Klostermyer explained why my crown had come off (physics about pointed rather than straight sides), and then artfully adhered and reshaped the crown until she achieved perfection. I've been to many dentists over the years and could tell right away I was being treated by a master of the science and the craft. In addition, the staff, online registration, and office reflect ADR's high standards and regard for the needs of their patients.

Quite expensive but Denistry is out of line if you don't have insurance and I don't.

I hadn't gone to the dentist in roughly 10 years while I was in college, so I was really nervous about going and being judged / at how bad it could be. I had my appointment and everyone was amazing - very kind, professional, and friendly, from the ladies at the front desk to Dr Klostermyer herself. I ended up having to come back for a few fillings. At my appointment I explained to them needles can sometimes cause me to have an anxiety reaction (break out in sweats / faint), and Dr Klostermyer talked with me to try to figure out what about them caused me to react, and what the best way to deal with it would be. We decided to try it without Novocaine, but she said if it hurt too much and I wanted her to stop all I had to do was raise my hand and she'd instantly stop and we could either take a little break / try the Novocaine / try something else. They did an amazing job at making me feel comfortable and calm (honestly it felt more like a 5 star hotel than a dentist's office). The procedure wasn't all that bad - I had to have some deep fillings and while it wasn't exactly painless, it really wasn't as bad as I'd expected. After I got home, looking in the mirror I really can't tell where the fillings are. Definitively the best experience I've had at a dentist's and happy to go back (as far as going to the dentist goes)!

For months I had lamented having to find a new dentist. Having googled many recommendations from family and friends as well as viewing many online recommendations, I had gotten weary. Suddenly I was so delighted to happen upon Dr. Klostermyer's website. It sure looked like a perfect fit! I immediately made a phone call to the office to ask a few questions, and good-natured Nancy told me that they had just gotten a rare cancellation and I could be seen the next morning. I accepted and was so happy I did. The entire staff is awesome! A very pleasant and friendly Dia cleaned my teeth like they'd never been cleaned before. And nothing was the least bit uncomfortable! Dr. Klostermyer was amazingly friendly and welcoming. I don't believe I could have made a better choice! Definitely this was the best experience ever at a dentist's office! Shhhh! I have an older brother who is a (now retired) dentist. ; )

I have worn partial dentures for many years that were provided by numerous dentists. My dissatisfactions with most of those dentures had been as numerous. When I needed another partial, I researched extensively until I decided to seek the prosthetic dental services of Dr. Ursula Klostermyer. She did not diappoint! She is professional, courteous, knowledgable, and very attentive to details and concerns. I highly recommend her, especially for any challenging dental prosthetic needs. Her services are outstanding!
