Marcia Sydney Zax graduated with honors from New York University College of Dentistry in 1985. She continued her training as a resident at Strong Memorial Hospital-University of Rochester Medical Center (1985-86). In addition to her clinical training, Dr. Zax has worked in various areas of dental research, including epidemiology of dental caries (83-85 laboratory of Dr. Racquel LeGeros New York University College of Dentistry), factors influencing root caries (85-86 Eastman Dental Center, laboratory of Dr. John Featherstone), and finally obtained her PhD at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Her Ph.D. thesis is entitled, Fluoride, Magnesium and Carbonate and Crystallographic Studies of Developing Human Fetal Enamel.
Dr. Zax also obtained an NIH grant for post-doctoral studies in bone research and development which she carried out in the anatomy department at Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine, in the laboratory Professor Cornelia Farnum (91-92). Dr. Zax achieved Advanced Proficiency in the use of Nd: YAG and Er: YAG lasers from the Academy of Laser Dentistry in 2002. Dr. Zax has been practicing dentistry full time in Ithaca since 1993.

I've been a patient of Dr. Zax at Advanced Dental for over 10 years. She takes excellent care of my teeth and is extremely thorough and professional. The health of my teeth and gums has improved with age under the care of Dr Zax and her excellent team. I highly recommend!

I would love to say when I made my appointment with Dr. Zax I had already had a horrible experience with a franchised Dental Co. It was a great experience to finally find someone who really cares about her patients. I had to get dentures and I am so happy I went there. My teeth are beautiful and no one ever knows I have dentures. She did such an amazing job, and the staff is so kind and helpful. Thank you all! Char May Sasso.

Dr. Zax and her team of women have given me the best dental care I've ever had. Her dental hygienist has extensive knowledge and always gives me updated advice on how to maximize oral health. Not to mention she gives the most thorough cleanings! My at-home dental care has significantly improved because of her. Dr. Zax has replaced a number of my old fillings, and she is a perfectionist when getting the bite just right. She is frank and honest about what needs to be done ASAP and what can wait for another time. I trust her completely and feel fortunate to have such an amazing dentist. I cannot say enough good things about Dr Marcia Zax and her entire team! Dr Zax is kind, attentive to her patient's needs, and exceptionally skillful. Each member of her "team", as she calls them, is friendly and skillful, making each appointment a well-organized, positive experience for me. And going to the dentist is far from my favorite thing!

I've been a regular patient of Dr Marcia Zax for more than 15 years. When I started going to her my teeth were not in the greatest shape, but over the years she was able to stabilize my condition, and now I frequently have no problems at all after my regular checkup. She is able to catch any problems at a very early stage and repair them before they can get worse. I find her to be extremely conscientious and thorough, and I'm complely happy with the treatment she's provided to me over the years. I also find her staff to be excellent. All in all, I recommend her completely.

I had recently re-chipped a tooth, (re-chipped, I know right?) and needed a filling. Dr. Zax got me in just two days later, and within 30 minutes I had a perfect tooth once again! The staff is amazing, you can tell they've worked together for years and genuinely enjoy what they do. I feel fortunate to have found such a great dental team. A dentist should never say, "oops" during a procedure. While drilling one tooth, went through and drilled a healthy tooth. This happened about 9 years ago. Going to a emergency appt to have that healthy, drilled tooth pulled today, as it is now assessed. Doesn't take insurance. Her staff is great.
