Dr. Steve M. Edwards is a graduate of Baylor University and the University of Texas Dental Branch in Houston. Dr. Edwards has been in private practice for 28 years. He also has been recognized by his peers as one of the top dentists in San Antonio for the second time as featured in S.A. Scene Magazine 2014. He is skilled in all phases of General Dentistry, including cosmetic and restorative dentistry. Our practice has been established in this area for over 30 years. One of the cornerstones of Advanced Dental Associates is our exceptionally high level of service and our ongoing commitment to building long term relationships with each of our patients and their family members. We focus on ensuring that the patient's needs always come first.

Although a general practice dentist, Dr. Edwards internally handles many specialty procedures that allow patients to receive advanced care at his office without needing a referral to a specialist. This saves the patients the need to be referred, saving both patients and insurance companies the need to pay for more costly specialty services.

When not caring for his patients, Dr. Edwards loves spending time with his wife Bobbi, which he has been happily married to for 32 years. He adores playing with their three dogs Zoe, Abbey, and Lola. He also enjoys working out, traveling, and catching some waves.

Dr. Long received his degree in Zoology and Biochemistry from the University of Missouri in 1975. He graduated from the University of Missouri Kansas City School of Dentistry in 1979. He has been in private general practice in Vandalia, MO for over 30 years. He now practices and lives in San Antonio, Tx. Dr. Long is a member of the American Dental Association, the American Academy of Cranio Facial Pain, American Orthodontic Society, Academy of General Dentistry, and Fellowship status in the International Congress of Oral Implantology. He has published articles on LANAP in Dentistry Today and the Missouri Academy of General Dentistry. Dr. Long has lectured and taught laser dentistry in the U.S. and abroad. He has been an Institute for Advanced Laser Dentistry certified instructor for 15 years.

Dr. Long is married to his beautiful wife Tish, and has three step-children Madison, Davis, and Riley. Dr. Long also has three children of his own Christine, Brian, and Megan. He enjoys all outdoor sports, and restoring classic cars and motorcycles.

Dr. Villarreal is a native of San Antonio, Texas. He attended Tom C. Clark High School then went on to receive a Bachelors of Art from St. Mary's University and a Masters in Molecular Biology from the University of the Incarnate Word, both in San Antonio. Dr. Villarreal then received a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from the prestigious University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio (UTHSCSA). Following his passion for dentistry, he completed a residency in Advanced Education in General Dentistry, also at UTHSCSA. During this residency, he focused in Oral Surgery and spent most of his training with the Department of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery. Furthermore, he received extensive training in methods of Intravenous (IV) Conscious Sedation, dental rehabilitation and hospital-based dentistry, implant placement and restoration, and many other advanced techniques and procedures.

Dr. Villarreal performs many oral surgeries, including but not limited to, complete bony impaction extractions, full-mouth extractions, pre-prosthetic alveoplasty and tori removal, extraction with bone augmentation and socket preservation for future implant placement and restoration. He offers dental implant placement using only the best and most respected implant companies on the market today.

Dr. Villarreal is licensed to administer on-site IV Sedation for patients while he performs the dental procedures needed. His state-of-the-art equipment and experienced techniques allow patients with dental anxieties to receive the care they deserve. Dr. Villarreal understands dental fear, so if a patient is anxious, he may administer laughing gas or an oral sedative prior to IV Sedation. Our office is equipped with all sedation medications, emergency medications, emergency equipment, EKG, pulse oximeter, and a fully automated blood pressure and blood oxygen saturation monitoring system. We will also provide all Pre- and Post-op instructions along with his cell number for any post-operative questions or unforeseen complications.

Dr. Villarreal also understands the needs of patients with cognitive or physical disabilities. As for all patients, sedation produces a lowered level of consciousness so that the patient may undergo dental treatment in a 'twilight sleep'. Patients will be semi-conscious with the ability to respond to verbal commands but will have little or no memory of the procedure. Sedation dentistry allows the dentist to customize the dose making it safe, predictable, and comfortable for the patient in our dental office.

Dr. Villarreal is a blessed and proud father to two wonderful children, Emmerson and Cameron. His wife Christine, is a Medical/Dental/Healthcare Commercial real estate agent who works for Xite Realty. He enjoys spending time with his friends and family, fishing, traveling, reading, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, but most importantly, he enjoys expanding his knowledge through continuing education courses and seminars.

Dr. Lauren Malitz was born and raised in Huffman, Texas, about an hour northeast of Houston. After graduating from Texas, A&M University in 2003 with a degree in Biomedical Science, She followed in her father's footsteps to the University of Texas School of Dentistry in Houston, where she graduated with a Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree in 2007. She spent many years working in her father's dental office, both before and after becoming a dentist herself, and there is where she learned valuable knowledge about the field of dentistry and the importance of treating patients with compassion and respect.

Lauren and her husband, Ryan, moved to San Antonio in 2009, and she soon began working with Advanced Dental Associates. She enjoys all aspects of general dentistry, particularly finding aesthetic solutions that help make patients smile, and is currently interested in helping patients with sleep apnea. Dr. Malitz holds memberships with the American Dental Association, Texas Dental Association, San Antonio District Dental Society, Academy of General Dentistry, American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, and is a member of Spear Education and Study Club, which provides relevant continuing education for todays practicing dentist.

Dr. Malitz delicately juggles her time between being a wife, mom to her 3 children, a practicing dentist, and a community volunteer. She is actively involved in the San Antonio community and volunteers her (extra) time with the Junior League of San Antonio, St. Luke's Lutheran Healthcare Ministries, and her children's schools. In her spare time, she enjoys CrossFit and is an avid competitive water skier. Most weekends you will find her spending time with her family out at the ski lake, unless she is cheering on her daughters at a softball game or gymnastics meet.

Dr. Garcia is a native of San Antonio. She graduated from Robert E. Lee High School and continued on to the University of Texas at San Antonio, where she graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. Dr. Garcia moved next to the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio School of Dentistry, where she graduated summa cum laude. She received several awards while attending dental school, including the Dean's List Award for Excellence in Clinical Dentistry and a scholarship in Basic Science.

Dr. Garcia is a member of the American Dental Association, Texas Dental Association, and San Antonio District Dental Society, where she served on the New Dentist and Membership committee. She is also dedicated to continuing education and has earned certifications in laser dentistry, conscious sedation, and clear correct.

Dr. Garcia enjoys working with children here at the office, but when she is away, she loves to travel and is an avid scuba diver. She married her husband, also a San Antonio native, in 1998. They have two children.

Dr.Castillo was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. She graduated from Alamo Heights High School and completed her undergraduate studies at Angelo State University in Biology. Dr. Castillo continued her undergraduate education at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, where she received her degree in Dental Laboratory Sciences. After this, she entered her Master's degree in Public Health at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. During her graduate externship, she worked directly with the Health Department on public health programs focused on improving access to dental care within the community. Dr.Castillo's philosophy is to treat patients as her own family members and provide them with a positive dental experience. She emphasizes oral health instruction and the ability to allow her patients to take an active role in their oral health.

Lasers were also becoming a tool of interest to the dental field. The first dental lasers used ruby as a medium and could vaporize tooth enamel. Eventually, developments were made that led to the use of CO2 and Er:YAG lasers. The first dental laser system meant for clinical use was released in 1990. While they have yet to receive the ADA seal of approval, dental lasers have been cleared for use by the FDA.
