Dr. Yao graduated from Boston University School of Dental Medicine where she was awarded DMD (conferred with Magna Cum Laude) and Doctor of Science. Upon graduation, she was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honorary Society for academic excellence in clinical dentistry. She received Sigma Xi Award by the Scientific Research Society for outstanding research achievement.
After graduation, Dr. Yao was a postdoc fellow and later on became a Assistant Research Professor at Boston University School of Dental Medicine. She performed research in salivary proteins and had numerous scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals. Since 2004, she has dedicated her entire professional time to private practice in general dentistry.
Dr. Yao held memberships in American Association of Dental Research, International Association of Dental Research and Scientific Research Society. She is currently a member of American Dental Association, Massachusetts Dental Society and American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
Dr. Yao provides excellent dental care to patients of all ages. She is well liked by her patients for her caring and gentleness, skills and dedication, commitment to excellence and devotion to individual care. Dr. Yao builds into our practice not only the very latest in dental training and abilities but also a true sense of patient care and compassion that will allow her to provide patients with comprehensive family and esthetic dentistry.
It is Dr. Yao's belief that prevention is the key to the long-term success of dental health. Therefore, in our office, as patients are rendered the most comprehensive and advanced dental care, patients are also well-guided and richly-educated with respect to oral health maintenance.
We mourned the loss of Dr. Thomas McQueen. He passed away peacefully at his home in Beverly, MAon Monday, June, 9, 2014. Born in Lewisburg, PA. in 1930 he grew up in Mifflinberg, PA. He received a Bachelors degree from Pennsylvania State University in 1952 and a Doctor of Dental Medicine from Harvard University School of Dental Medicine in 1956. He was one of the founders of Acton Family Dental Care, formerly McQueen Dental Associates and practiced for 45+ years. His ash was spread at seato followhis will. We will miss you, Dr. McQueen!
Our practice was started almost 70 years ago on Windsor Avenue in West Acton by Dr. Albright. Shortly thereafter, Dr. Thomas McQueen acquired the practice and moved it to our current location of 249 Central Street. We are often identified as the house with the tooth banner hanging out front . Our office has provided dental care to patients who reside in the neighborhood and in towns faraway. Many families have been with us for three generations!
Dr. Yuan Yao, a caring dentist with many years of clinical experience in private dental practice, took over this practice more than 11 years ago. She believes in providing quality dental care to fit each patients needs. Dr. Yao aims to achieve long-term success of patients dental health and to deliver care to the utmost of patients comfort. This philosophy, very similar to that of Drs. Mike and Tom McQueen, made a smooth transition and has led to a steady growth of our office. All staff members adhere to Dr. Yaos belief and endeavor to facilitate the delivery of personalized, high-quality dental care. We strive to provide patients with comfortable care and to come up with the best solution and treatment for each patients dental needs. We utilize the most advanced proven technology to give you the winning smile you are looking for.
We are proud to provide a state-of-the-art facility for the highest quality dental care available. It is one of our top priorities to protect the well-being of our valued patients. For this reason, our office meets and surpasses all OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) and CDC (Center for Disease Control) standards. Can't believe I'm saying this: you will look forward to your dentist appointment! I switched to Dr. Yao's practice years ago and it was a world of difference. She is so knowledgeable and caring, her staff are all rockstars, and they really do make you feel like part of a family. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

I absolutely love Dr Yao. She is completely knowledgeable and enthusiastic about her science. She combines that with her terrific people skills and attention to detail to ensure your dental experience is stress free and the least uncomfortable as possible. The whole office seems to fall in line with the same competent stress free, positive environment. To me, going to her office is an exercise in a stress free mindful break in my day. I highly recommend.

Good service and friendly people. My only complaint is that I wish they were transparent with their pricing. I got a procedure done and paid $2500 only to find out a few months later that I also need to pay an additional $1300 on top of what I already paid. This is the second time this has happened.

As a senior, I've been to several dentists over the years. I recently became a patient of Dr. Yao with Acton Family Dental Care and have been extremely satisfied and impressed with each employee in the practice from front dest, billing, dental hygienist, dental assistant and especially Dr. Yao. Not only has attention been given to my specific individual needs, but Dr. Yao provided me with strategies I can use moving forward in stopping and preventing further dental issues. I live in Acton and there are a few dentists to choose from. I looked at in-network vs. out-of-network dentists to save money. Although Acton Family Dental Care is not in network with my dental insurance, I think it is worth it to me to pay extra because Dr. Yao and her staff are so professional and competent. Her support staff and hygienists are so friendly and personable. I really like going here! Dr. Yao takes great pride in her work and I appreciate her patience when she explains the procedures she performs on me. My family all go to Acton Family Dental and we're quite happy. For what it's worth, I highly recommend Dr. Yao and her practice.

I've gone to Acton Family Dental my whole life and they live up to their name. You do feel like a part of the family when going there-- everyone remembers you and takes a genuine interest in your life. Dr. Yao and her team are so knowledgeable and positive, they absolve the negative stigma associated with trips to the dentist. I recently moved to the city but still make the long drive out to Acton as their services are the best!
