Dr. Slaven Graduated with a doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S) degree from the University of Michigan in 2002. He also received a Master of Dental Surgery (M.S. D) in Periodontics from Indiana University in 2006.
He is also certified by the State of Missouri in General Dentistry and Periodontics. Dr. Slaven also holds certifications form the American Board of Periodontology and the Northeast Regional Board in local anesthesia.
He has been practicing all aspects of family and cosmetic dentistry in Wentzville and surrounding suburbs over the past years. He enjoys his involvement with organized dentistry and he is a member of American Dental Association, Missouri Dental Association, and the American Academy of Periodontology. Dr. Slaven is very devoted to excellence in quality patient care by participating in national and international seminars, ongoing continuing education and lectures, and he has mastered the latest techniques in cosmetic dentistry.
Dr. Graham Tinker graduated cum Laude with a degree in biochemistry from the University of Missouri in 2011. He attended dental school at the University of Missouri at Kansas City where graduated with honors in oral surgery.
Dr. Tinker became interested in dentistry while on a mission trip to Honduras in which he assisted the dental team as they cared for the needs of the local population. He continued to donate his time and expertise to the underserved populations in both St. Louis and Kansas City at public health clinics while in dental school. Dr. Tinker participated in this years MOMOM hosted in Columbia. Outside of work he enjoys snowboarding, playing soccer, and watching Mizzou athletics.
Having grown up in central Missouri, it brings me much joy to be able to return to the area and serve the local populations dental needs. I love cultivating relationships with my patients and satisfying their dental needs from relieving them of pain to improving their self-confidence by enhancing the esthetics of their smiles. Dr. Carissa Bruening was raised in the small town of Fredonia, Kansas. Her interest in dentistry was initially sparked when her hometown dental office asked her to work for the summer when she was 14 years old. Growing up, Dr. Bruening enjoyed her science and health courses and after her time spent working in the dental office, she began researching dentistry as a future career.
Carissa graduated magna cum laude from Kansas State University in 2012 with a degree in Kinesiology/Pre-dentistry. She then attended the University of Missouri Kansas City, School of Dentistry and graduated in May 2016, with academic honors.
Dr. Carissa Bruening was recently married to her husband and now ActOn colleague, Dr. Andrew Bruening. In her free time she says, I love times of relaxation with my husband, especially after two years of a long distance relationship, but I also love being active in sports. Basketball, volleyball and tennis are my favorite sports to play, but as I get older, I realize I will be playing more golf in my future. Dr. Bruening also enjoys training for and participating in half marathon races.
Dr. Bruening grew up in the St. Louis area and studied Food Science and Nutrition at the University of Missouri Columbia before graduating with honors from the School of Dentistry at the University of Missouri Kansas City. He is an alumnus of Psi Omega dental fraternity and is currently working towards a Fellowship with the Academy of General Dentistry and accreditation with the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.
The Iowa Dental Association named Dr. Bruening an honor clinician at their regional dental conference, and the Midwest Dental Conference awarded him 3rd place for table clinic presentations. In 2013, he traveled to Uganda for a dental mission trip and is planning to do future work in Africa, South America, and Thailand.
Outside of the office, Dr. Bruening enjoys photography, reading, cooking, brewing beer, and playing golf. He is also a member of: American Dental Association, Missouri Dental Association, Greater St. Louis Dental Society (West County District Board Member), Chesterfield Chamber of Commerce, Academy of General Dentistry, American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry

This dental office is amazing. My daughter had an accident that happened to her at a water park. She is 10 years old and lost her 2 front permanent teeth. Dr Brown came in on his day off to see my daughter. He splint my daughter teeth back together. I don't have much money. I am a single parent with other kids. They are working with me to get my daughter to smile again. The character and passion to treat my daughter says a lot about this office. Thank you to the whole dental staff that showed they are truly about patient care. My 10 year old daughter is happy she has teeth in her mouth. She would of not had any teeth if this doctor did not come in on his day off.

Beware of this operation and it's poor parking and terrible upper management. Obviously they have no consent for legal documents and don't understand the process of signing legal binding paperwork. The mean old lady from the back should ride her broom stick home and do some research on legal document signing instead of throwing her weight around with it's her way or the highway attitude: over priced and stuck up. That's the bottom line.

I have massive dental anxiety and avoided the dentist for many years. I was really thankful for how friendly and kind the staff and Dr. Slaven was. I also needed nitrous due to panic attacks and they weren't judgy about it (grown man). Even though I was embarrassed. And to the reviewer below... show up on time... Of course procedures are time slotted and being late can cause issues. Being late pushes the rest of us back and its annoying. No I don't want to sit there an extra fifteen minutes because you are entitled.

I decided to come to a new dentist after 27 years of the same one. At first, very welcoming.. gave me a small tour then introduced me to a few people. I liked Michelle and asked to be scheduled with her. I go into my appointment today and although I was 10 minutes late (made wrong turns) the lady on the phone had said, "not sure how much she will be able to get done, but she will do the best she can". Once there, I saw another woman was going to be taking me back for cleaning. I mentioned that I specifically scheduled with Michelle. (At the time of scheduling the woman said, if it's noted in my account I want someone specifically then my appointment wouldn't change people. Otherwise I would get whoever). Well, it was then said that Michelle herself changed it. And to see her again it would be another month and a half. Seriously!!?? Not only did I feel rushed and like a burden. I felt uncomfortable to know I was just another person coming through their doors. Anyone truly looking to switch Dentists, hope you look at the real comments and not the fake positive ones. They have contests you can win if you come on here and give a nice review. Was not a happy camper.

We have had several great experiences at ActOn Dentistry. Dr. Slaven is always polite & the staff is great with my 6yr old son. Very family friendly environment. They also have a reward system set up for kids which is amazing. At the end of your visit, your kiddo can get 2 coins to use in there you machines. It's just a helpful incentive to get your kids through the visit.

Overall not a good experience due to the poor office staff. I called a few weeks before my appointment to see if there were other openings cause an afternoon appointment better suited my schedule. The office employee told me that the next opening wasn't until February. I then said I would like to keep my appointment but be placed on a call list in case other openings become available. A couple of days before my appointment I called to confirm because I did not receive the normal email reminders that are sent out to patients. They told me they had no record of my original appointment but if I could get there in an hour they had an opening, to add they were not apologetic and overall just very rude. Luckily I was able to get in later that week due to a different cancellation. But overall I was just very frustrated at the fact that they cancelled my original appointment when I explicitly said I wanted to keep it and the fact that their "waitlist" is bogus. There were several openings the week of my appointment and I received zero notification. The attending doctor is good but not worth the headache of the incompetent office staff.

Melissa is a wonderful hygienist, and was very aware and careful about some of the sensitivity that I have during cleanings. Dr Slaven is simply a rock star dentist, folks.
