Dr. Ella Shuster grew up in Westfield, New Jersey, and she now practices dentistry at Academy Dental Care in her two offices in Westfield and Chatham, New Jersey. Dr. Shuster is comfortable with all aspects of general dentistry root canals, fillings, crowns, bridges and implants and she is especially interested in cosmetic dentistry, Invisalign orthodontics, restorative dentistry, and dental sleep medicine.
Dr. Kobos graduated Magna Cum laude from Tufts University and then went on to graduate from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. She continued her education at Overlook Hospital's General Practice Residency in Summit, NJ where she received training in oral surgery, prosthodontics, endodontics, periodontics, and pediatric dentistry.She is gentle, warm,and family-focused.
A New Jersey native, Dr. Mendia attended Rutgers University where he graduated with a Bachelors degree in Exercise Science and Nutrition. He then earned his Doctorate of Dental Medicine from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Dr. Mendia completed a post-doctoral residency in Dental Anesthesiology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine, at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC). Dr. Mendias anesthesia training involved hospital rotations through various specialties. During each rotation, he provided general anesthesia in the areas of dentistry, general surgery, otolaryngology (ENT) surgery and obstetrics. In addition, he received specialized training for office-based anesthesia
Today, Dr. Mendia has found his niche in ambulatory anesthesia with pediatric and special needs patients. He is also an Assistant Clinical Professor at Rutgers University School of Dental Medicine and provides lectures and continuing education courses on sedation and medical emergencies in the dental office.
He is also a member of the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology, American Society of Dentist Anesthesiologists, New Jersey Dental Association, and American Dental Association. He holds certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).

Normally a great place. Have been enjoying my visits. However, I have needed to cancel due to Covid and family emergencies and now they refuse to see me. I find it sad that doctors/dentists think their time is valuable but not the patient's. When they've needed to reschedule I was not given the 24 hours THEY require of us. What has happened to customer service and patience?Taking my business to someone who understands and respects their patient and the times we are living in.

I had an emergency, and the staff at Academy Dental Care were more than accomodating in squeezing me in. Dr. Shuster made the process pain-free, explained what she was doing, and answered any questions I had along the way. I intend to use their services even after this emergency!

They got me an appointment very quickly (same day) when I called and told them my tooth broke prior to leaving for vacation. Got the tooth bonded and a cleaning before my trip. Extremely happy with the work done.

Dr. Shuster and her staff are great. She is very detailed and truly the best dentist I have been to. Her staff is also very friendly, caring, and professional. Having Saturday hours helps me have procedures done without worrying about taking off of work. I would not trust anyone do the same quality of work that Dr. Shuster is capable of handling.

I was very impressed with the staff, Maggie, and Dr. Shuster. They made me feel right at home and didn't critique me on not taking better care of my teeth like some other dental offices. My experience with Maggie was the best cleaning I had ever had / hands down. Instead, they took the time to explain how I can improve my oral health and what preventative measures I need to take. I felt like I bonded with Dr. Shuster and I can talk to her for days like I would with my close girlfriends. I cannot wait to bring the rest of family to this practice! Thank you!!

The office staff was warm and professional. Everyone was exceedingly kind to me, as well as my children who came in for their first visit. Dr. Shuster was warm and helpful. She was conservative and knowledgeable in her recommendations for dental work and gave me the information I needed to move forward with confidence. I am very happy with this practice.
