I went to Smiles Dental in Fargo because they were a preferred provider for my dental insurance meaning I would get the best possible rates from them for dental services. I gave them my insurance information weeks prior to my appointment and I also sent them the treatment plan from my non-preferred dentist. They had plenty of time to get a quote on exactly what my insurance would cover. I assumed they had since prior to being treated, I was given a paper stating that the services would cost approximately $400. I paid it in full that day. Six weeks letter I receive a bill for and additional $536. When I called to ask what was going on I was told that it is not their responsibility to know what my insurance would cover. The woman was rude and condescending saying it was my fault and I should have contacted my insurance carrier to see what they would cover as it was not their responsibility. When I booked an appointment with them I was never told to contact my insurance carrier, I was told they worked with my insurance, were a preferred provider and would handle everything with my insurance. If it was my responsibility to contact the insurance carrier then why would you hand me an estimate? And if you are a "preferred provider" why was your estimate off by $536? You are a DENTAL office that processes DENTAL INSURANCE claims ALL THE TIME. If this is the level of service Smiles Dental provides and the attitude when someone questions it I would recommend finding another dentist. Buyer BEWARE!!

By telling me that my blood pressure was high, you saved my life, I found out that I had third stage kidney disease, now I am being treated for it, if you had just pulled the tooth I would have never known until to late, so a very good dentist you are, thank you very much, Mike

First visit here. I had all my records sent over. Cleaning was ok, very impersonal and I was not told I would be paying $55 out of pocket for fluoride varnish. Saw the dentist for 5 min, she did not introduce herself or measure gum recession which is my biggest concern & why I see the dentist quarterly. Did not do an oral cancer screening or address a cavity or crown recommendation previously noted in my records. Did a simple "gums look nice and pink" then left, yet still charged a $120 exam fee. This is the McDonald's of dentists. I will not be going back.

Always have an amazing experience here! The staff is always super nice and helpful! They have always been great fitting around my schedule, I have never felt it has been the other way around! From the moment you are greeted when you walk in to the moment you leave it is just a great atmosphere! My children love Dr. Sampson! My 4 year old even asks when do we get to go back to the dentist?

I love About Smiles Dental! Front office staff is very friendly and willing to work around my schedule all the time. They are very helpful with explaining everything with my insurance and treatment plan. All hygienists are thorough and informative on what treatment needs to be done. Dr. Sampson has done a root canal for me and she did an amazing job! Highly recommend!!!

Incredibly nice. I typically have huge dental anxiety and they were so nice and professional. I had an abscess bothering me for days and they were able to squeeze me in. When an endodontist couldn't get me in for a root canal, they made time for me. Truly lifesavers and I will be going here from now on!

I took my 7 year old daughter here for her first dentist visit. Yes I know, a little late for a 1st visit but we've never had the insurance or funds for it before. She had a couple small checkups through her school but never the full cleaning. She had been complaining about a tooth hurting and I thought we better get it checked out so I scheduled with About Smiles because they took my insurance, they were able to get her an appt same day and I had heard great things. Unfortunately I wasn't very impressed, hoping it was just an off day, it happens. The lady I spoke to on the phone told me to come 15 minutes early to fill out paper work, no problem. We show up 15 minutes early and stand in the lobby for 10 minutes before someone finally spoke to us about checking us in. I was told that everyone came back from lunch at 2, our appt was at 2 so no problem, but why ask me to come 15 minutes early to fill out paperwork if I'm not actually gonna fill it out till 2. I than had to rush to finish the paperwork while they started on my daughters teeth. My daughter was very nervous and scared, the hygienist made no attempt at comforting her. When showing her the tools she would put them out there and than stare at my daughter until I said something to her as if she would know to put her hand out to feel it. When I was attempting to get my daughter to bite down for the x-ray I told her to just bite it hard because she wasn't closing her mouth, she was scared, the hygienist just looked at me and said well she doesn't need to bite it that hard in what I personally perceived to be in a rude way. My daughter was scared and said it hurt while she was scraping her teeth , at this point she just told me there is no way she's gonna be able to get it all and gave up. The dentist was much more friendly, she at least attempted to make my daughter feel better, at this point it might have been a lost cause though. She said they were referring us to a specialist and we would be hearing from them. I have no idea how many cavities, where, how bad, nothing. When leaving the hygienist threw a toothbrush, a floss and a toothpaste in a bag and handed it to my kid, no smile, no good job, no sticker, no "prize" for trying her best. I honestly wouldn't recommend them. I hope it was just an off day but I won't be returning. I've been to other dentists recently with my other child and they were over the top about making the kids feel safe and made it an overall good experience. My daughter is now just as scared as before if not more. Thank God my insurance covered the whole thing, I couldn't imagine paying for that. They didn't even finish cleaning her teeth. To add on the day after I received a text message with my name spelt wrong asking me to text them my email address to update their records. I was literally just there yesterday, I just handed you my paperwork with my email address and name in multiple places. Just goes to show how unorganized they are. Like come on, my name? It's literally all over my paperwork.
