Dr. Moore was born and raised in Abingdon, Virginia. He earned his B.S. in Biology from James Madison University and his D.D.S. from the Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry in Richmond in 1982. Upon graduation, he married Laura, the love of his life, and moved to Germany to serve three years in the U.S. Army Dental Corps. In 1985, he returned to Abingdon to join the family practice with his father, Dr. French Moore Jr.
Dr. Laningham grew up in Lee County, Virginia on the farm that has been home to six generations of his family. Upon graduation from high school, he attended the College of William & Mary, then transferred to the University of Virginia, where he received his Bachelors in Biology and graduated with honors.
In 2015, Dr. Laningham earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the School of Dentistry at Virginia Commonwealth University. It was here that he developed an avid interest and talent in restorative dentistry. While in dental school, Dr. Laningham was an active member in the Cosmetic Dentistry Club and served as a tutor for dental students who required remediation in operative and restorative dentistry.
Dr. Mavelil was born and raised in Dubai. He was born to Indian first-generation immigrants and has two brothers. He moved to India after high school to pursue dentistry. He completed 5 years of dental training and went on to complete a residency in Orthodontics. His clinical practice was primarily in Orthodontics for four years before he decided to come to the US to pursue professional licensure here. He graduated with a Doctor in Dental Surgery degree in May 2021 from Virginia Commonwealth University. Focused on holistic patient-centric dental care, he wants to help restore and maintain patients oral health using his education and experience.

I have always feared a dentist. It was always very painful, and the pain lasted for days just form a semple filling . They didn't take my insurance so it was very expensive. At Abingdon Smiles there was no pain I didn't even notice the numbing shots. The staff is so careing and thoughtful. The dentist called me at home later that day just to check on me, and they take my insurance. I highly recommend Abingdon Smiles. If you need a dentist, give them a call..

By far the best, the kindness and most caring dentistry I have ever been to. I can give them a 5 star review but that does not come close to how they treat their patient. It was a pleasure for me just meeting these people at Abingdon Smiles. The dentist Dr. Moore is absolutely wonderful and he cares about his patients very much so, I even received a call from him after hours just to check in me, I've never had a dentist or any other doctor that was as good as Dr. Moore. I felt really welcome and I knew I was with the right dentistry. They are very honest and will help you in anyway possible. I will never go to any other Dentist again, I found the best. Thank you all at Abingdon Smiles, you guys are wonderful.

If you want a Dentistry that makes you feel like family as soon as you walk in this is your place. I had a Dentist in Tazewell Va that I had went to for years and got a toothache and called them and they said I would just have to call back every day to see if they had a cancellation or I could make an appointment 2 months out so I started looking online found Abingdon Smiles called them and they got me in the next day to extract the tooth. Very professional and very friendly and helpful staff. I was very impressed.

Went in for a tooth extraction as a new patient. Office & waiting area was lean and cozy. Staff was extremely nice. Dr. Moore was extremely nice as well & made sure I was comfortable. Last tooth extraction I had at my previous dentist, they were rough and I felt everything they did, which made me nervous about this extraction. I didn't feel anything, not even the little pressure Dr Moore said I may feel. Was over within a couple mins. Highly recommend.
