February has been designated Gum Disease Awareness Month! Initially launched by the Institute for Advanced Laser Dentistry, its purpose is to raise awareness about gum disease and encourage healthy dental habits to prevent it.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), gum disease, also referred to as periodontitis, is the result of infections and inflammation of the gums and bone that surround and support the teeth. In the early stages, the gums can become swollen and red, and they may bleed. As it progresses, the gums can pull away from the tooth, which can eventually result in bone and tooth loss. Not only does gum disease affect your mouth, it can affect your body as well. Regular check-ups and good oral hygiene are important to ensure everything is healthy.
Periodontal disease is mostly seen in adults, with 47.2% of those aged 30 years and older having some form of it. This risk only increases with age. On top of age, there are many other risk factors that can increase your chance of developing gum disease. One of the primary risk factors is smoking, followed by poor oral hygiene, diabetes, stress, hormonal changes and medications that cause dry mouth.
While gum disease starts in the mouth, when left untreated, it can start affecting many other parts of the body as well. This includes respiratory disease, rheumatoid arthritis, coronary artery disease and diabetes.

Overall good experience. I went for a cleaning, then a filling soon after. The dentist was nice and checked often to make sure I was not feeling pain. My only complaint is they aren't open on weekends at all so good luck finding a time that works for you.

I have dentophobia and put off going to the dentist for ten years until I couldn't anymore. These people have taken such good care of me; the gas sedation helps me relax enough to handle getting the work I needed doing. I would highly recommend the staff here.

AVOID Dr. Shar and Abbeville Dentistry. I have sued her. I went there yesterday to get a bridge. However, during the procedure, Dr. Shar broke a healthy tooth of mine by mistake. She did not apologize and left her office while I was bleeding and had the worst pain in my life. So, I quickly went to another dentist and they were shocked to see what she did. Breaking my healthy tooth was not the only mistake because the X-rays that the second dentist took revealed that Dr. Shar did not take off the roots of the tooth that she had taken out. So, they referred me to an oral surgeon and I had the first surgery of my life this morning because of her mistake. I have always avoided sedation and surgery but her poor performance resulted in the first surgery of my life. Because she broke my healthy tooth, now I cannot even get a bridge as four teeth will be involved and a bridge will not work. So I need to get two implants. Besides having to pay more than ten thousand dollars for the surgery and the two implants, I lost one healthy tooth and had a surgery as well. I have already hired an attorney and soon she needs to appear at the court. Dr. Shar needs to be held accountable for her horrible action.

I haven't been to the dentist for years and was very insecure walking in and fully expected to be shamed for the condition of my teeth. Nope! The staff was friendly, caring, and got the point across without making me cry So, thanks! I'm a happy customer.

Scheduled at 2:00pm. Arrived at 1:58 to check in, completed paper work and called back at 2:08pm to exam room. This appointment was scheduled to "check" to see if filling had fallen out, by 3:10 pm I was still sitting. I am very patient person however I needed return to work so I left. This is the second time this has happened to me, please don't over book.

Don't go here, they tried to do an unnecessary procedure on me and I just needed a cleaning. I recommend the other Abbeville location in Odessa.

Dr Constance and her whole team are wonderful. I was extremely nervous and all of them made me feel comfortable. Edited to say they billed my insurance the wrong codes and after I already paid $1400, I know owe another $1498 . (Mind you they said i wouldn't have to pay anymore)Yes I spoke with the billing dept as well and they were not correctly billing. I will not be back

Unreliable. My experience in the past is ok. People are nice and friendly but when it comes to commitment. It's not there. My recent experience was, they canceled my appointment and failed to notify me. So I lost money, not them. Why would I waste my time and money, by scheduling an appointment they're not going to keep. Their fix was an "I'm sorry". Well I'm sorry is not going to going to fix my time loss at work. Pitiful. I'll be planning to go somewhere else. This wasn't the first time this has happened. Update: So I'm being asked to contact them... I already contacted Erica who claimed to be the operating manager for all abbyville dentestry offices. She already apologized but it solved nothing. They have my contact info and if it really mattered to them they could reach me. I'm not wasting any more time and frustration with them.

Although I was there for 2 hours for just X-rays and cleaning... the reception is very polite and Manny (I think that's his name) is amazing at taking X-rays!! He won't gag you with the mouthpieces! & the hygienist is very good as well!
