February has been designated Gum Disease Awareness Month! Initially launched by the Institute for Advanced Laser Dentistry, its purpose is to raise awareness about gum disease and encourage healthy dental habits to prevent it.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), gum disease, also referred to as periodontitis, is the result of infections and inflammation of the gums and bone that surround and support the teeth. In the early stages, the gums can become swollen and red, and they may bleed. As it progresses, the gums can pull away from the tooth, which can eventually result in bone and tooth loss. Not only does gum disease affect your mouth, it can affect your body as well. Regular check-ups and good oral hygiene are important to ensure everything is healthy.
Periodontal disease is mostly seen in adults, with 47.2% of those aged 30 years and older having some form of it. This risk only increases with age. On top of age, there are many other risk factors that can increase your chance of developing gum disease. One of the primary risk factors is smoking, followed by poor oral hygiene, diabetes, stress, hormonal changes and medications that cause dry mouth.
While gum disease starts in the mouth, when left untreated, it can start affecting many other parts of the body as well. This includes respiratory disease, rheumatoid arthritis, coronary artery disease and diabetes.

The staff and Dr Burke were extremely nice and thorough with what they were doing. I'm not one to go to the dentist much to scary but they comforted me. I really appreciate the extra mile.

If you like pain this is a place for you! my older sister had 2 wisdom teeth pulled and they removed the stitches to early causing a dry socket.she was traveling back to college, she had to stop in Arlington Texas to see if her cousin could get her in asap ( She works at a Dentist office .. Luckily they could ! they packed it with pain medication and Gauze . The Dentist there said they removed the stitches too early causing a dry socket!

Do not go here with a tooth issue... (Odessa 11th street location). Other locations under the same name might be better. My reason for this review: I came in with severe pain in a tooth. Where I believe to have something stuck in it, however, we still do not know because nothing was done to inspect the tooth. After paying for the visit and x-rays... I was told to make another appointment... after this experience outside of a normal cleaning when you have urgent needs... yeah stay away.

Another terrible dentist One of the worst I have ever been too, had to get extractions and a partial which I didn't want in the first place I wanted help and and something fixed not something that comes out, I thought I was going to get the help I desperately needed from here, well I was wrong they are money hungry I already paid 2000 dollars to help with my dental and the partial they gave me that I had received was complete trash, it's already falling apart and on top of that, they send me a letter saying they want to withdraw their services as my dentist and i have no idea why after all the money I sunk into this place. After receiving a cheaply made product and this is how they want to treat me. I'm sorry but that is unprofessional. And I am calling my lawyer. I will never come back here again. They also have 300 dollars of mine still on the account and i will be getting that back. I also left them a voicemail requesting it, and letting them know how upset I really am. Don't go here we are better off going somewhere else maybe in Lubbock or something.

These folks make going to the dentist as painless as it gets. Dr. Burke, and his assistant Tina; are as Professional as they come! Abbeville may be the business name, Jeremy and Tina make it all go. Five Stars don't even come close to the excellence and never seen before; ousta ding care for their patients! Thank you Dr. Burke for the outstanding care!!
