February has been designated Gum Disease Awareness Month! Initially launched by the Institute for Advanced Laser Dentistry, its purpose is to raise awareness about gum disease and encourage healthy dental habits to prevent it.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), gum disease, also referred to as periodontitis, is the result of infections and inflammation of the gums and bone that surround and support the teeth. In the early stages, the gums can become swollen and red, and they may bleed. As it progresses, the gums can pull away from the tooth, which can eventually result in bone and tooth loss. Not only does gum disease affect your mouth, it can affect your body as well. Regular check-ups and good oral hygiene are important to ensure everything is healthy.
Periodontal disease is mostly seen in adults, with 47.2% of those aged 30 years and older having some form of it. This risk only increases with age. On top of age, there are many other risk factors that can increase your chance of developing gum disease. One of the primary risk factors is smoking, followed by poor oral hygiene, diabetes, stress, hormonal changes and medications that cause dry mouth.
While gum disease starts in the mouth, when left untreated, it can start affecting many other parts of the body as well. This includes respiratory disease, rheumatoid arthritis, coronary artery disease and diabetes.

When I went for a cleaning, they double booked and I waited 30 minutes. When I got a tooth extracted, I was bleeding so much that I soaked 3 gauze pads while getting my instructions. I was sent home while still bleeding a lot and they did not give me very enough gauze.

I was paying cash and only needed a cleaning but apparently you are REQUIRED to get X-rays if it has been longer than a year since your last exam. Does not matter if you want to refuse the X-ray due to personal or religious beliefs.

Everyone at this location is always friendly. I never spend an excessive amount of time in the waiting room or in the examination room. All staff members are very knowledgeable and skilled in their profession.

I had the tooth beneath a crown crack and become infected. They had to extract the tooth, but it was done the same day. Everyone really made the ordeal easier.

Not my regular dentist, but saw me as a walk-in when in had a dental emergency over the holidays. Great staff and the dentist and dental assistant were very nice and considerate. Update July 2022: this place still rocks! Temporary crown needed glued back on and my dentist had emergency eye surgery. They got me in same day and I didn't pay hundreds of dollars (no dental insurance). Highly recommend using this location for any and all dental needs!!!

for going to a dentist,it was very pleasant, I didnt have to wait an hour in waiting room and the entire staff was wonderful. Dr son,who extracted my three teeth was wonderful. I recommend them to anybody...............

Everyone was so nice. Very attentive care. Listened when I said ouch. No tooth pain. Only had pain at injection sites. But then I'm hard to numb and they had to do extra injections. I had 2 extractions. I am extremely pleased and will go back.
