Dr. Hagstrom graduated number 1 in his class from USC School of Dentistry in 1987 and has been practicing in the El Cajon/La Mesa area since then. He completed a residency in Myofacial Pain Dysfunction at USC and trains annually at the Center for Advanced Dental Study in St. Petersburg, Florida, with Dr. Peter Dawson. Dr. Hagstrom is known as a Physician of the Mouth not just a Tooth Doctor! He does Permanent Restorative Dentistry using the latest in proven Cosmetic Dental materials. Dr Hagstrom has been a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry since 1995. Most recently, he has completed and earned his Fellowship in Implant Dentistry from the California Implant Institute.
He also has advanced training in treating the Dental Phobic patient. Where his philosophy is to listen attentively to his patients and treat each one individually based on what they want to accomplish and in a manner that is tailored to fit their specific situation. He also employs the latest in Sedation Dentistry techniques allowing the patients to take a pill and go to sleep! He is a Charter member of the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation. Dr. Hagstrom has also obtained one of the first Certificates for Oral Conscious Sedation issued by the State of California. He is a charter member of the Dental Organization For Conscious Sedation, DOCS.
He has recently been awarded one of only 36 Life Time Qualified Achievement Awards in the Crown Council. This organization is dedicated to bringing the highest quality Dental Services possible to the patients of North America.
Mary is our Registered Dental Hygienist. She has been trained in the latest Periodontal techniques including Oral DNA bacterial testing and Laser to get the gums back to optimum health and keep them that way! Mary also works in the background as our Financial Liaison, she is an expert in Workmans Compensation Insurance as well as our Dental Insurance trouble shooter. She is an expert with all types of insurances. She will help you out with any difficulties with your financial needs in our dental office. She has been working here longer than any other Team member.
Michelle, our Patient Care and Financial Coordinator, has an infectious smile and great attitude! She is the first person our patients meet when they walk in the door. Michelle is the one who takes the time to figure out, the sometimes, confusing complexities of dental insurance benefits. She also is the one that creatively finds ways for our patients to afford the Dental care that they need. She does all of this while maintaining a positive, friendly attitude. She is our Social Butterfly of the practice! Our major people person, but she also acts as a great problem solver as well. Her knowledge will help our patients in all areas of dentistry.

Because of the staff at A shop for smiles is the reason, my dental anxiety has gotten less and less. Even as an adult I have always needed someone to go with me to the dentist. Now I can go alone and not feel like throwing up or passing out. Mary, hygienist, is amazing and very knowledgeable. She makes me so comfortable and she lets me stop and breathe throughout my cleanings. She also explains everything step by step. Michelle at the desk is always welcoming and treats me like one of her own which calms me down. She has even held my leg during a procedure when I was scared. The dental assistants are such a key factor in my ability to return. Without their kindness, professional manor and their ability to make me laugh and not think I'm at the dentist I look forward to seeing them. And of course Dr. Hagstrom is the best dentist I have ever seen. He is so knowledgeable and never makes me feel that any concern, big or small, is important. I will never change dentists again.

Dr. Hagstorm is the finest dentist you will ever meet. He is kind, compassionate, and gentle. Shop for smiles with Dr. Hagstrom, and all his staff are warm and friendly. They do their best to make you feel as comfortable as possible throughout your visit. They even put chapstick on your lips. You will not find another dentist who can compare. Their office is welcoming, and the environment is homey. It is not like other sterol dentist offices you have been to before. My favorite part is their stained glass window of a unicorn.

Dr Hagstrom and his team are a force to be reckoned with. From the moment you are in the doors you are with family. This makes some of life's most daunting tasks just a little bit bit better. Starting with the process itself, you are not only told what you're doing wrong but educated to better invest in your health. After the procedure is everyone's favorite part: payment. Remember, I said " to better invest " in your health. Dental work can be a bit pricey; but with awesome financing program and an amazing patient care coordinator, Michelle, who truly looks out for your best interest, you can breathe a little easy that fixing your teeth won't cost an arm + leg. Overall, I'll give Shop for smiles 10/10 for having a process down that makes being a client more comforting, patient, and caring than nerve - wrecking.
