Our practice has served West Michigan since 1969, when Dr. John Albrecht established an office downtown Grand Rapids, beginning with one assistant and one of the earliest practicing dental hygienists in the city. In 1988, the practice and its growing staff moved to its current location in Grandville. Conveniently located just off I-196, the comfortable, modest office building was surrounded by fields. Loyal patients followed, the practice thrived, and in 2005,Dr. Jason Doublesteinjoined the staff. A few years later,Dr. Michael Wierengacame aboard as Dr. Albrecht retired. And a few years after that, the two doctors became partners, merged with the practice of their next-door neighbor, Dr. Michael Pierce, completely renovated an expanded space, and welcomed an associate,Dr. Katelyn Trierweiler. Today, our skilled and dedicated staff at 44 West Dental works together in that same convenient office building in Grandville. Though it is now surrounded by restaurants and a busy mall, our practice proudly carries forward a tradition of serving patients with compassion and professionalism. Dr. Doublestein is a graduate of Hope College and the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. As a student at Hope, he was actively involved in many of the unique social and educational opportunities the college had to offer, including the Cosmopolitan Fraternity, The Pull, and Nykerk. Studying abroad through Hope Colleges Vienna Summer School provided Dr. Doublestein with a broader perspective on the world and its cultures, and international travel has been a passion for him ever since.

Dr. Trierweiler attended the University of Michigan for her undergraduate and dental school education. During her undergraduate years, she sat on the board of the University of Michigan Predental Association and served as President during her senior year. She went on to graduate at the top of her dental school class and was awarded academic scholarship and membership in the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society for her academic achievements.

Dr. Wierenga is a graduate of the University of Michigan for both his undergraduate studies and for dental school. During his undergraduate years, he was involved in clinical research, tutoring other students in subjects such as chemistry and biology, and also volunteered his time weekly at a local dental clinic that provided care to the underserved community. He received his undergraduate degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology in 2008 and DDS degree four years later in 2012.

Dr. Doublestein is a graduate of Hope College and the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. As a student at Hope, he was actively involved in many of the unique social and educational opportunities the college had to offer, including the Cosmopolitan Fraternity, The Pull, and Nykerk. Studying abroad through Hope Colleges Vienna Summer School provided Dr. Doublestein with a broader perspective on the world and its cultures, and international travel has been a passion for him ever since. Dr. Doublestein and his wife, Stephanie, started an endowed scholarship for Vienna Summer School that allows Hope Students who otherwise couldnt afford the program the opportunity to experience it. While in dental school at the University of Michigan, Dr. Doublestein was a member of the Alpha Omega dental fraternity, the American Student Dental Association, and, as a guitarist, the dental schools rock band, Central Groove. He was selected to participate in the annual Traverse City Migrant Workers Clinic, spending several weeks in the summer caring for migrant workers and their families in special dental clinics set up in Traverse City area schools. Dr. Doublestein graduated in the top one-third of his dental school class of 2003 with honors.

Dr. Doublestein is an active member in the American Dental Association, Michigan Dental Association, and West Michigan District Dental Society. He has sought extensive continuing education, including focused study and training in soft tissue laser treatment, occlusion, and complex tooth and implant restorations, including cosmetic dentistry and full-mouth reconstruction. He is proud to have completed the entire Essentials curriculum at the esteemed L.D. Pankey Institute, one of the nations most renowned centers for advanced learning for dentistry, clinical skills, and patient care. Dr. Doublestein meets monthly with a group of doctors who are Pankey Institute alumni in a local study club, where advanced care cases are critiqued and a high level of learning is consistently achieved.

Dr. Doublestein grew up around the Gun Lake area and is a graduate of Wayland High School, where he was a team leader on the cross country and track teams and a member of the National Honor Society. He and his wife, Stephanie, reside in East Grand Rapids, where their two daughters attend school, and are active in their community and their church. As a family, they continue to enjoy travelling to new and interesting places in the world, spending time in the Leelanau Peninsula, running, biking, kayaking, hiking and playing music together. Dr. Doublesteins passions include mountain biking, playing guitar, painting, and spending time making memories with his family.

When I started out in my studies at Hope College, my goal was to become a physician. As I matured and advanced in my learning, I discovered that dentistry appealed to me because a dentist is both a physician of the mouth but also an artist. Ive always loved art and have recently been dabbling with acrylic painting, and nothing makes me more excited than to give a patient the smile that theyve always wanted. My continuing education has given me the clinical and artistic knowledge to treat large cosmetic cases predictably and with a high degree of confidence and competence. And outside of cosmetic dentistry, I just enjoy everyday dentistry because it gives me the opportunity to build authentic relationships with my patients. I love getting to know people on a deeper level, and these relationships are what make my practice both fun and rewarding.

Dr. Wierenga is a graduate of the University of Michigan for both his undergraduate studies and for dental school. During his undergraduate years, he was involved in clinical research, tutoring other students in subjects such as chemistry and biology, and also volunteered his time weekly at a local dental clinic that provided care to the underserved community. He joined practice with Dr. Doublestein shortly after graduation.

Currently, Dr. Wierenga is an active member in the American Dental Association, Michigan Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, and West Michigan District Dental Society. He is passionate about continued learning and has sought extensive continuing education, including focused study and training in Invisalign, soft tissue laser treatment, occlusion, and complex tooth and implant restorations, including cosmetic dentistry and full-mouth reconstruction. His talents in areas of technology and digital dentistry have improved our ability to educate our patients and improve the quality of their care. Dr. Wierenga has completed the entire curriculum at the L.D. Pankey Institute, one of the nations most renowned centers for advanced learning for dentistry, clinical skills, and patient care. Dr. Wierenga is also active in a study club of doctors who share Dr. Wierengas passion for excellence and quality care.

He is a graduate of South Christian High School, where he played football and basketball and was a member of the 2002 state championship football team. Dr. Wierenga currently resides in Byron Center with his wife Rachel and three daughters Hattie, Winnie, and Poppy. As a family they enjoy biking, spending time outdoors, and exploring the many museums and activities Grand Rapids has to offer. He is actively involved in his local community and church, where he volunteers his time mentoring a group of middle-school children. From his eight years spent living in Ann Arbor, Dr. Wierenga developed a passion for Michigan sports teams and is a big fan of the football and basketball teams.

I was first drawn to dentistry during my middle school years by the unique blend of science and art that this profession has to offer. During high school, I shadowed area dentists and surgeons and was fascinated by the level of detail and accuracy needed to deliver the highest level of patient care. Now that I am the one delivering care to my patients, I am driven by the pursuit of continued learning and excellence in every area of dentistry. Some of my favorite procedures include anterior composite bonding and veneers because of the detail and planning required for a successful result. Ultimately though, my favorite part of being a dentist is not in the treatment I provide, but rather the relationships with my patients that develop as a result. I love getting to know my patients on a personal level and to see the smiles that result from increased confidence and health.
